The authors used a Stroop negative priming paradigm to examine the effects of antipsychotic medication on selective attentional processes. The performance of 14 patients with schizophrenia who were withdrawn from neuroleptic medication was compared with that of 10 medicated patients and 16 matched controls. Results demonstrated an increase in negative priming to normal levels with neuroleptic therapy. In contrast, within-trial interference and facilitation effects appeared to be less sensitive to medication therapy. The sustainment of inhibitory processes over time may differentiate the inhibitory mechanisms of the medication-withdrawn patients from both the medicated patients and the matched controls. The study of sequential inhibitory processes and their response to neuroleptic treatment could be important methods for understanding the temporal parameters associated with inhibition in schizophrenia. Three fully differential bandpass (BP) /spl Delta//spl Sigma/ modulators are presented. Two double-delay resonators are implemented using only one operational amplifier. The prototype circuits operate at a sampling frequency of 80 MHz. The BP /spl Delta//spl Sigma/ modulators can be used in an intermediate-frequency (IF) receiver to combine frequency downconversion with analog-to-digital conversion by directly sampling an input signal from an IF of 60 MHz to a digital IF of 20 MHz. The measured peak signal-to-noise-plus-distortion ratios are 78 dB for 270 kHz (GSM), 75 dB for 1.25 MHz (IS-95), 69 dB for 1.762 MHz (DECT), and 48 dB for 3.84 MHz (WCDMA/CDMA2000) bandwidths. The circuits are implemented with a 0.35-/spl mu/m CMOS technology and consume 24-38 mW from a 3.0-V supply, depending on the architecture.  相似文献

An initial improvement in glycemic control is often followed by gradual deterioration of glycemia during insulin treatment of patients with noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). We examined the causes of such worsening in a 12-month follow-up analysis of 100 insulin-treated NIDDM patients in the Finnish Multicenter Insulin Therapy Study who were treated with either combination therapy with insulin or insulin alone. In the entire study group, glycemic control averaged 9.7 +/- 0.2% at 0 months and 8.0 +/- 0.1%, 8.0 +/- 0.1%, 8.2 +/- 0.1%, and 8.5 +/- 0.2% at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months (P < 0.001 for each time point vs. 0 months). Glycemic control at 12 months was significantly worse than that at 3 (P < 0.001), 6 (P < 0.001), and 9 months (P < 0.02). Baseline body mass index was the most significant predictor of deterioration in glycemic control. During 1 yr, hemoglobin A1c decreased almost 3-fold more (by 1.7 +/- 0.2%; P < 0.001 vs. 0 months) in patients whose baseline weight was below the mean baseline body mass index of 28.1 kg/m2 (nonobese patients) than in those whose weight exceeded 28.1 kg/m2 (obese patients; 0.5 +/- 0.2%; P = NS vs. 0 months; P < 0.01 vs. obese patients). Glycemic control improved similarly over 1 yr in the nonobese subjects and deteriorated similarly in the obese patients regardless of their treatment regimen. Insulin doses, per body weight, were similar in the nonobese and obese patients. The nonobese patients consistently gained less weight during 12 months of combination therapy with insulin (3.5 +/- 0.6 kg at 12 months) than during insulin therapy alone (5.1 +/- 0.6 kg; P < 0.05). The treatment regimen did not influence weight gain in the obese group, who gained 4.4 +/- 1.0 kg during combination therapy with insulin and 4.5 +/- 1.1 kg during insulin therapy alone. We reached the following conclusions: 1) after an initial good response, glycemic control deteriorates more in obese than in nonobese patients with NIDDM; 2) in obese patients, weight gain per se cannot explain the poor glycemic response to combination or insulin therapy, but it may induce a disproportionately large increase in insulin requirements because of greater insulin resistance in the obese than in the nonobese; 3) in nonobese patients, glycemic control improves equally during 1 yr with combination therapy with insulin and insulin alone, but combination therapy with insulin is associated with less weight gain than treatment with insulin alone; 4) weight gain appears harmful, as it is associated with increases in blood pressure and low density lipoprotein cholesterol.  相似文献

Worldwide consumption of manganese is increasing, nevertheless huge amounts of manganese from hydrometallurgical processes still end up as waste since the recovery of manganese from multi-metal solutions at low concentrations is not considered feasible. Poor iron control typically prevents the production of high purity manganese. This work studies a number of precipitants in manganese recovery and iron separation from sulfate solutions. The precipitation reagents were compared from the point of view of selectivity and economy. Carbonate precipitation is a fast and effective method for the recovery of manganese from bulk solutions. Subsequent leaching of metal carbonate is also easier and consumes less acid than, for example, hydroxide or sulfide precipitates. In order to avoid gypsum formation, soda ash should be used instead of limestone. It was found that efficient selective iron removal from MnSO4 solutions is achieved with combined O2 or air oxidation and CaCO3 precipitation at pH >5.8 and at a redox potential of >200 mV. Effective mixing and sufficient retention time are essential to make the method technically efficient and economically feasible.  相似文献

Etoposides block cell division by interfering with the action of topoisomerase II, leaving enzyme-DNA double-strand breaks. We found that certain components of the trimeric DNA-dependent protein kinase influence cell survival following etoposide damage. Interestingly, either Ku70- or Ku80-deficient cell lines, but not mutant cell lines of the DNA-PK catalytic sub-unit (DNA-PKcs), were found to be hypersensitive to the effects of etoposide VP16. Ku70- and Ku80-deficient cells can be complemented to an etoposide resistant phenotype by introducing wildtype Ku70 or Ku80 cDNAs. Mutational analysis of introduced Ku70 cDNAs into murine embryonic stem cells deleted for Ku70 (-/-) showed that mutants where heterodimerization and DNA binding functions of Ku were disrupted, also blocked the restoration of etoposide resistance. In contrast with the differential etoposide sensitivity of DNA-PK mutants, both Ku- and DNA-PKcs-deficient cell lines showed G2 ionizing radiation-induced delays, a cell cycle phase where topoisomerase II function is critical. Thus, the topoisomerase II cleaved complexes may be an example of DNA lesions requiring the Ku heterodimer, but not DNA-PK for DNA repair.  相似文献

The problem of identifying clusters from MIMO measurement data is addressed. Conventionally, visual inspection has been used for cluster identification, but this approach is impractical for a large amount of measurement data. For automatic clustering, the multipath component distance (MCD) is used to calculate the distance between individual multipath components estimated by a channel parameter estimator, such as SAGE. This distance is implemented in the well-known KMeans clustering algorithm. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the choice made, the performance of the MCD and the Euclidean distance were compared by clustering synthetic data generated by the 3GPP spatial channel model (SCM). The in vitro selected lead-dependent ribozyme is among the smallest and simplest of the known catalytic RNA motifs and has a unique metal ion specificity for divalent lead. The conformation and dynamics of this ribozyme are analyzed here by NMR and chemical probing experiments. Complete assignments of the 1H, 13C, and 15N resonances have been made, and the NMR chemical shift changes in the presence of Pb2+, Mg2+ or high concentrations of Na+ show that there is no significant structural change upon addition of either activating (Pb2+) or inhibitory (Mg2+) divalent ions. The 13C NMR relaxation data indicate substantial dynamic fluctuations on various time-scales for active-site residues in this ribozyme. The combination of chemical probing and NMR experiments reveals a picture of the active site for the lead-dependent ribozyme that has both ordered and dynamic features.  相似文献
