We study the homogeneous cooling of hard, smooth ellipsoids in three dimensions using event driven numerical simulation. The elongation of the particle has a strong effect on the cooling behavior. Weakly elongated ellipsoids display two distinct cooling regimes. For small times, the translational and rotational energy decay at a different rates. Once their ratio reaches a time-independent value (different from equipartition), the overall temperature of the system decays like t ?2, as predicted by Haff??s law. For more elongated ellipsoids the translational and rotational temperatures rapidly reach a constant ratio near unity. The cooling behavior in the homogeneous state can be predicted from Haff??s law and the equilibrium collision rate. 相似文献

Polymethoxyflavones (PMFs) extracted from citrus peel exhibit potent anti-cancer activity, but are highly hydrophobic molecules with poor solubility in both water and oil at ambient and body temperature, which limits their bioavailability. The possibility of encapsulating PMFs within nanoemulsion-based delivery systems to facilitate their application in nutraceutical and pharmaceutical products was investigated. The influence of oil type (corn oil, MCT, orange oil), emulsifier type (β-lactoglobulin, lyso-lecithin, Tween, and DTAB), and neutral cosolvents (glycerol and ethanol) on the formation and stability of PMF-loaded nanoemulsions was examined. Nanoemulsions (r < 100 nm) could be formed using high pressure homogenization for all emulsifier types, except DTAB. Lipid droplet charge could be altered from highly cationic (DTAB), to near neutral (Tween), to highly anionic (β-lactoglobulin, lyso-lecithin) by varying emulsifier type. PMF crystals formed in all nanoemulsions after preparation, which had a tendency to sediment during storage. The size, morphology, and aggregation of PMF crystals depended on preparation method, emulsifier type, oil type, and cosolvent addition. The impact of calcium-induced fat droplet aggregation on the microstructure and physicochemical properties of model mixed colloidal dispersions was investigated. These systems consisted of 2 wt% whey protein-coated fat droplets and 4 wt% modified starch granules heated to induce starch swelling (pH 7). Optical and confocal microscopy showed that the fat droplets were dispersed within the interstitial region between the swollen starch granules. The structural organisation of the fat droplets within these interstitial regions could be modulated by controlling the calcium concentration: (i) at a low calcium concentration the droplets were evenly distributed; (ii) at an intermediate calcium concentration they formed a layer around the starch granules; (iii) at a high calcium concentration they formed a network of aggregated droplets. Paste-like materials were produced when the fat droplets formed a three-dimensional network in the interstitial region. Effects of surfactant concentration, antioxidants with different polarities, and chelator type on the oxidative stability of water‐in‐stripped walnut oil (W/O) emulsions stabilized by polyglycerol polyricinoleate (PGPR) were evaluated. The formation of primary oxidation products (lipid hydroperoxides) and secondary oxidation products (hexanal) decreased with increasing PGPR concentrations (0.3–1.0 wt% of emulsions). Excess surfactant might solubilize lipid hydroperoxides out of the oil–water interface, resulting in the decreased lipid oxidation rates in W/O emulsions. At concentrations of 10–1000 μM, the polar Trolox demonstrated concentration‐dependent antioxidant activity according to both hydroperoxide and hexanal formation. The antioxidant efficiency of the non‐polar α‐tocopherol was slightly reduced at the higher range of 500–1000 μM based on hydroperoxide formation. Both ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and deferoxamine (DFO) at concentrations of 5–100 μM reduced the rates of lipid oxidation at varying degrees, indicating that endogenous transition metals may promote lipid oxidation in W/O emulsions. EDTA was a stronger inhibitor of lipid oxidation than DFO. These results suggest that the oxidative stability of W/O emulsions could be improved by the appropriate choice of surfactant concentration, antioxidants, and chelators. 相似文献

Landscape Urbanism has been, to date, a theory emerging primarily from the Western world. This paper counters the Western focus by exploring the potential of Landscape Urbanism theory in Dubai. In a previous article published by the author, landscape architecture in Dubai has been identified as diverging from the tenets of the various charters of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), having apparently scant regard for pressing ecological, social and cultural design issues. Landscape Urbanism in this paper is discussed with respect to its ability to bolster the practice of landscape architecture in Dubai in relation to these issues. The paper argues that a number of key facets of Landscape Urbanism appear difficult to reconcile with the ecological, social and cultural conditions of Dubai. Due to its rheological properties, positive lead-acid battery paste can be difficult to spread on lead current collectors accurately and efficiently under industry machinery and setting. Sodium polymethacrylate dispersant was studied as an effective positive paste additive that could lower the yield stress of the paste without affecting paste density and battery performance. Under a four-blade vane rheometer setup, stress growth and oscillatory amplitude strain sweep experiments evaluated the rheological properties of positive paste with the addition of varying amounts of sodium polymethacrylate.
