The aim of the study was 1) to establish the prevalence of GAD antibodies (GADab) in a population-based study of type 2 diabetes in western Finland, 2) to genetically and phenotypically characterize this subgroup, and 3) to provide a definition for latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA). The prevalence of GADab was 9.3% among 1,122 type 2 diabetic patients, 3.6% among 558 impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) subjects, and 4.4% among 383 nondiabetic control subjects. Islet antigen 2 antibodies (IA2ab) or islet cell antibodies were detected in only 0.5% of the GADab- patients. The GADab+ patients had lower fasting C-peptide concentrations (median [interquartile range]: 0.46 [0.45] vs. 0.62 [0.44] nmol/l, P = 0.0002) and lower insulin response to oral glucose compared with GADab- patients. With respect to features of the metabolic syndrome, the GADab+ patients had lower systolic (140 [29.1] vs. 148 [26.0] mmHg, P = 0.009) and diastolic (79.2 [17.6] vs. 81.0 [13.1] mmHg, P = 0.030) blood pressure values, as well as lower triglyceride concentrations (1.40 [1.18] vs. 1.75 [1.25] mmol/l, P = 0.003). GADab+ men had a lower waist-to-hip ratio compared with GADab- patients. Compared with GADab- patients and control subjects, the GADab+ patients had an increased frequency HLA-DQB1*0201/0302 (13 vs. 4%; P = 0.002) and other genotypes containing the *0302 allele (22 vs. 12%; P = 0.010). However, the frequency of these high-risk genotypes was significantly lower in GADab+ type 2 patients than in type 1 diabetes of young or adult onset (0201/0302 or 0302/X: 36 vs. 66 vs. 64%, P < 0.001). The GADab+ type 2 group did not differ from control subjects with respect to genotypes containing the protective DQB1-alleles *0602 or *0603, nor with respect to the type 1 high-risk genotype in the IDDM1 (Hph1 +/+). We conclude that GADab+ patients differ from both GADab- type 2 diabetic patients and type 1 diabetic patients with respect to beta-cell function, features of the metabolic syndrome, and type 1 diabetes susceptibility genes. Further, we propose that LADA be defined as GADab positivity (>5 relative units) in patients older than 35 years at onset of type 2 diabetes.  相似文献

The effect of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) on the textural features of experimental coke was investigated using polar- ized-light optical microscopy and wavelet-based image analysis. Metallurgical coke samples were prepared in a laboratory-scale furnace with 2.5%, 5.0%, 7.5%, 10.0%, and 12.5% HDPE by mass, and one sample was prepared by 100% coal. The amounts and distribution of textures (isotropic, mosaic and banded) and por~s were obtained. The calculations reveal that the addition of HDPE results in a decrease of mosaic texture and an increase of isotropic texture. Ethylene formed from the decomposition of HDPE is considered as a probable reason for the texture modifications. The approach used in this study can be applied to indirect evaluation for the reactivity and strength of coke.  相似文献

Computationally expensive multiobjective optimization problems arise, e.g. in many engineering applications, where several conflicting objectives are to be optimized simultaneously while satisfying constraints. In many cases, the lack of explicit mathematical formulas of the objectives and constraints may necessitate conducting computationally expensive and time-consuming experiments and/or simulations. As another challenge, these problems may have either convex or nonconvex or even disconnected Pareto frontier consisting of Pareto optimal solutions. Because of the existence of many such solutions, typically, a decision maker is required to select the most preferred one. In order to deal with the high computational cost, surrogate-based methods are commonly used in the literature. This paper surveys surrogate-based methods proposed in the literature, where the methods are independent of the underlying optimization algorithm and mitigate the computational burden to capture different types of Pareto frontiers. The methods considered are classified, discussed and then compared. These methods are divided into two frameworks: the sequential and the adaptive frameworks. Based on the comparison, we recommend the adaptive framework to tackle the aforementioned challenges.  相似文献

This study compared the nutrient capital of the forest floor, the nutrient status of trees, and the growth of a stand of Norway spruce (Picea abies L. (Karst.)) planted on a whole-tree harvesting treatment (needles left on site) with a conventional stem-only harvesting treatment 30 years after clearcutting. No significant treatment effects were detected in the amount of organic matter, the amounts of nutrients in the forest floor, or the concentrations of foliar nutrients. The results indicate that whole-tree harvesting with the needles left on the site did not reduce the long-term nutrient capital of the forest floor or the nutritional status of trees. Whole-tree harvesting significantly reduced the height of dominant spruce compared to stem-only harvesting, however the stem volume of dominant spruce did not differ between the harvesting treatments. The greater height growth of the dominant trees in the stem-only harvesting treatment could be attributed to indirect factors other than changes in site resource availability (e.g. protection against frost damage), and hence the effect of whole-tree harvesting on potential site productivity was inconclusive due to the confounding effect of site factors. In the whole-tree harvesting treatment, the total stem volume of the stand and, consequently, the actual site productivity, was lower when compared to stem-only harvesting due to the lower density of naturally regenerated seedlings.  相似文献

Plasticizer is an essential adjuvant in food and pharmaceutical film coatings affecting the appearance, mechanical and permeation properties of the final coat. In the present study, film formation and plasticization of native whey proteins (potential future “green” coating agents for pharmaceuticals and food products), were studied with free isolated films. Special attention was paid to the effects of plasticizer, preheating and film forming solution pH on the mechanical stress–strain and moisture permeation properties of whey protein films. Glycerol, binary mixtures of fructose and glucose, and non-crystalline acacia honey were studied as external plasticizers. The type and amount of plasticizer affected the mechanical stress–strain properties of the whey protein films. A short preheating treatment of whey proteins prior to film casting resulted in mechanically strong films with a reduced elongation. The film forming properties of aqueous whey proteins could be modified by adjusting the pH above the isoelectric point of β-lactoglobulin prior to film coating. For effective plasticization, whey protein films required a high amount of monosaccharide containing plasticizer ranging from 80% to 120% (calculated from the protein weight). A new external binary plasticizer having the same ratio of monosaccharides as non-crystalline acacia honey (fructose and glucose 1.67:1) was found to be applicable in aqueous whey protein films.  相似文献

Matrix decomposition methods represent a data matrix as a product of two factor matrices: one containing basis vectors that represent meaningful concepts in the data, and another describing how the observed data can be expressed as combinations of the basis vectors. Decomposition methods have been studied extensively, but many methods return real-valued matrices. Interpreting real-valued factor matrices is hard if the original data is Boolean. In this paper, we describe a matrix decomposition formulation for Boolean data, the Discrete Basis Problem. The problem seeks for a Boolean decomposition of a binary matrix, thus allowing the user to easily interpret the basis vectors. We also describe a variation of the problem, the Discrete Basis Partitioning Problem. We show that both problems are NP-hard. For the Discrete Basis Problem, we give a simple greedy algorithm for solving it; for the Discrete Basis Partitioning Problem we show how it can be solved using existing methods. We present experimental results for the greedy algorithm and compare it against other, well known methods. Our algorithm gives intuitive basis vectors, but its reconstruction error is usually larger than with the real-valued methods. We discuss about the reasons for this behavior.  相似文献

Recriticality in a BWR during reflooding of an overheated partly degraded core, i.e. with relocated control rods, has been studied for a total loss of electric power accident scenario. In order to assess the impact of recriticality on reactor safety, including accident management strategies, the following issues have been investigated in the SARA project: (1) the energy deposition in the fuel during super-prompt power burst; (2) the quasi steady-state reactor power following the initial power burst; and (3) containment response to elevated quasi steady-state reactor power. The approach was to use three computer codes and to further develop and adapt them for the task. The codes were SIMULATE-3K, APROS and RECRIT. Recriticality analyses were carried out for a number of selected reflooding transients for the Oskarshamn 3 plant in Sweden with SIMULATE-3K and for the Olkiluoto 1 plant in Finland with all three codes. The core initial and boundary conditions prior to recriticality have been studied with the severe accident codes SCDAP/RELAP5, MELCOR and MAAP4. The results of the analyses show that all three codes predict recriticality—both super-prompt power bursts and quasi steady-state power generation—for the range of parameters studied, i.e. with core uncovering and heat-up to maximum core temperatures of approximately 1800 K, and water flow rates of 45–2000 kg s−1 injected into the downcomer. Since recriticality takes place in a small fraction of the core, the power densities are high, which results in large energy deposition in the fuel during power burst in some accident scenarios. The highest value, 418 cal g−1, was obtained with SIMULATE-3K for an Oskarshamn 3 case with reflooding rate of 2000 kg s−1. In most cases, however, the predicted energy deposition was smaller, below the regulatory limits for fuel failure, but close to or above recently observed thresholds for fragmentation and dispersion of high burn-up fuel. The highest calculated quasi steady-state power following initial power excursion was in most cases approximately 20% of the nominal reactor power, according to SIMULATE-3K and APROS. However, in some RECRIT cases higher power levels, approaching 50% of the nominal power, were predicted leading to fuel temperatures exceeding the melting point, as a result of insufficient cooling of the fuel. Long-term containment response to recriticality was assessed through MELCOR calculations for the Olkiluoto 1 plant. At a stabilised reactor power of 19% of nominal power, the containment failure due to overpressurisation was predicted to occur 1.3 h after recriticality, if the accident is not mitigated. The SARA studies have clearly shown the sensitivity of recriticality phenomena to thermal-hydraulic modelling, the specifics of accident scenario, such as distribution of boron-carbide, and importance of multi-dimensional kinetics for determination of local power distribution in the core. The results of the project have pointed out the importance of adequate accident management strategies to be used by reactor operators and emergency staff during recovery actions. This paper discusses the implementation of the building blocks for a 2 GHz phase-locked loop frequency synthesizer in a standard 0.5 m BiCMOS process. These blocks include a low-power optimized dual modulus prescaler which is able to operate with input frequencies up to 2.7 GHz, a phase detector with extremely constant gain throughout the input phase difference range, a chargepump with a rail-to-rail output, and an on-chip voltage-controlled oscillator.  相似文献
