Three‐Phase AC Filter Inductor Design for Three‐Phase PWM Inverter for Conversion Efficiency Improvement at Low Load

The inductor losses in a three‐phase ac filter inductor used in a three‐phase pulse‐width modulation (PWM) inverter are evaluated. First, a three‐phase inductor is designed to obtain the same value of inductance for each phase. Then, based on the design, a three‐phase inductor that uses two magnetic materials is proposed. The conversion efficiency of a 1 kVA three‐phase PWM inverter that uses the conventional and proposed ac filter inductors is simulated. Simulation results show that conversion efficiency improves. Finally, the conversion efficiency of an actual three‐phase 1 kVA PWM inverter that uses the conventional and proposed ac filter inductors is measured. In the experiment, the conversion efficiency obtained for the case of the proposed inductor improves by approximately 1% at low power load as compared to the conventional inductor. Furthermore, the calculated inductor losses are in good agreement with measured losses. Improvement in efficiency is verified trough simulations and experiments.     

Scanning-less wide-field single-photon counting device for fluorescence intensity, lifetime and time-resolved anisotropy imaging microscopy

A scanning‐less single‐photon counting system for FLIM and fluorescence anisotropy wide‐field imaging is described and characterized in this paper. The two polarizations of the fluorescence are divided by a Glan prism and acquired at the same time by the Q_A detector. Fluorescence decay profiles can be reconstructed for any desired area up to each pixel and used to calculate time‐resolved fluorescence anisotropy decays.     

Study on Acceleration Factor at 5000 h Multiple Stress Test and Aging Evaluation of EVA Insulator

The authors carried out an outdoor exposure test and the 5000 h multiple stress test to ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) polymer composite insulator used for 22 kV distribution line and an attempt was made to estimate the acceleration factor of the 5000‐h multiple stress test corresponding to the climate condition of the Kyushu area. By comparing dry band arc cumulative charge of leakage current at 5000‐h multiple stress test with that in the outdoor exposure test, the authors estimated the acceleration factor of the 5000‐h multiple stress test to be about 20 times. The acceleration factor was found to almost agree with the evaluation result of the absorption of hydroxyl group by FT‐IR analysis and the surface roughness of the insulator, respectively. Finally, for the electrical property, the expected life of EVA insulator that the authors developed was confirmed to be more than 40 years.     

Transient Electric Field Analysis in Consideration of the Electric Field Dependence of Resistivity in the Converter Transformer

In this paper, values of the electric field in the pressboard and oil during the polarity reversal test of the converter transformer were calculated with transient analysis. First, we confirmed the accuracy of the nonlinear analysis in the model test. Next, we carried out nonlinear transient electric field analysis for polarity reversal test of the converter transformer. In the results, when the applied time of dc voltage before the polarity reversal is 360 min, the values of the electric field of oil area are the same as when it is 90 min. Although, the electric field in the pressboard becomes higher in response to the applied time dc voltage, it does not cause a problem on the insulation. Because withstand voltage of pressboard is very high. In the results, the correlation between the applied time of dc voltage before the polarity reversal and the withstand voltage of transformer is considered low. This result can be applied to the design of the converter transformer.

Chubu Electric Power Co., Ltd.’s hybrid power system simulator consists of analog models and hybrid models. The power system facilities are downsized as an analog model, while the synchronous generators and the loads are modeled as an actual current source model through the amplifier and the digital model. In recent years, there is a growing interest in analyzing power system dynamic phenomena caused by a high penetration of distributed generations. Therefore, the multifunctional generator model that can simulate distributed generation has been developed.

Nondestructive Methods for Identifying Injury to Vapor Heat-Treated Papaya

Polygalacturonase, a softening enzyme, influenced the development of physiologically injured fruit treated with vapor heat. Development of a nondestructive method to identify injured fruit was studied. X-ray computed tomography (CT), and ¹H-MRI, applied in the medical profession and for food analyses, were investigated for this purpose. Results showed that the X-ray CT, image analyses of the MRI differentiated between normal and injured fruit. The possibility of developing a nondestructive analysis using this technology is suggested.
