This paper discusses the implementation of the building blocks for a 2 GHz phase-locked loop frequency synthesizer in a standard 0.5 m BiCMOS process. These blocks include a low-power optimized dual modulus prescaler which is able to operate with input frequencies up to 2.7 GHz, a phase detector with extremely constant gain throughout the input phase difference range, a chargepump with a rail-to-rail output, and an on-chip voltage-controlled oscillator.  相似文献

To elucidate the effect of feeding of butyric acid on disaccharidase activities, the specific activities of the disaccharidases were measured in the intestinal mucosa and kidney cortex of control and diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced in rats using streptozotocin. Rats were fed with basal diet containing wheat bran (5%) as a source of insoluble dietary fiber and guar gum (2.5%) as a source of soluble dietary fiber. The experimental group received butyric acid at 250, 500 and 750 mg/kg body weight/day. Increased activities of intestinal maltase, sucrase and lactase in diabetic rats were significantly reduced in fiber-fed diabetic group. Supplementation of butyric acid at 500 mg/kg body weight/day showed a further decrease in their activities. The activity of disaccharidases in renal tissue was decreased in diabetic rats and was significantly improved in fiber-fed diabetic group. Butyric acid feeding at 500 mg/kg body weight/day showed further improvement in their activities.  相似文献

We study a generalization of the classical notions of bordered and unbordered words, motivated by biomolecular computing. DNA strands can be viewed as finite strings over the alphabet {A, G, C, T}, and are used in biomolecular computing to encode information. Due to the fact that A is Watson–Crick complementary to T and G to C, DNA single strands that are Watson–Crick complementary can bind to each other or to themselves forming so-called secondary structures. Most of these secondary structures are undesirable for biomolecular computational purposes since the strands they involve cannot further interact with other strands. This paper studies pseudoknot-bordered words, a mathematical formalization of pseudoknot-like inter- and intra-molecular structures. In this context, pseudoknot-unbordered words model DNA or RNA strands that will be free of such secondary structures. We obtain several properties of pseudoknot-bordered and -unbordered words. We also address following problem: Given a pseudoknot-unbordered word u, does {u}+ consist of pseudoknot-unbordered words only? We show that this is not generally true. We find that a sufficient condition for {u}+ to consist of pseudoknot-unbordered words only is that u be not primitive. All of our results hold for arbitrary antimorphic involutions, of which the DNA Watson–Crick complementarity function is a particular case.  相似文献

Functional limitations of persons classified into different obesity categories were evaluated while performing a simulated small parts assembly tasks. Joint angles (measured using electro-goniometers) and maximum forward function reach (MFFR) were used to quantify function limitations, and tasks were completed on three workstations designed for the 5th, 50th, and 95th percentile workers based on anthropometric data tables. Results revealed that BMI category did not significantly affect measured joint angles. Results also indicated that joint angles when working at the 95th percentile workstation configuration were significantly larger than those measured at the 5th percentile workstation configuration. Further, obese class 2 and obese class 3 groups MFFRs were significantly shorter than the normal weight group, which was expected. These results imply that workstation design considerations should include obesity levels, and that work should be placed near the worker and should be elevated to reduce pressure on joint angles while working for larger (obese) individuals.  相似文献

Psychosocial factors are hypothesized to contribute to work-related musculoskeletal disorder (WMSD) development, although previous research has been largely epidemiological or has focused primarily on the shoulders, back and neck. The objective of this study was to quantify the effects of mental workload and time pressure on perceived workload and physiological responses of the distal upper extremity. A total of 18 typists completed nine 5-min typing sessions representing three levels of time pressure and mental workload. Levels were manipulated by adjusting typing speed and by requiring participants to perform arithmetic tasks while typing. Outcomes were measured in muscle activation levels, wrist postures and movements, key strike force and subjective assessments of workload. In general, increased time pressure increased muscle activation, key strike force and wrist deviations; and increased mental workload increased key strike force. Mental workload and time pressure mediated physical risk factors during typing to increase WMSD risk for the distal upper extremity.  相似文献

There is incomplete information about how physically demanding rescue work may be. The aim therefore of this paper was to examine the physiological responses of firefighters during a simulated rescue of hospital patients and to relate the firefighters' performance to their endurance, strength and working technique. Fourteen part-time male firefighters with a maximal oxygen uptake (VO(2max)) of 4.4 +/- 0.3 l/min (mean +/- SD) served as subjects in this study. First, each firefighter ascended six floors (a 20.5 m vertical ascent) carrying tools, wearing protective clothing and a breathing apparatus, an extra mass of 37 kg. He thereafter 'rescued' six persons by dragging each person on a fire-sheet on a flat floor. The technique used was recorded and the O(2) uptake and the heart rate were measured continuously during the whole operation. The blood lactate concentration and the subjective rating of perceived exertion were measured during and just after the rescue. The VO(2max) and the muscle strength were measured in the laboratory. The whole operation was carried out in the course of 5-9 min. The operation was a virtual all-out effort and the peak blood lactate concentration was 13 +/- 3 mmol/l. The peak oxygen uptake was 3.7 +/- 0.5 l/min (84% of the VO(2max)) during the operation. Large and heavy firefighters carried out the task faster than smaller ones. The VO(2max) in absolute terms and the dragging technique used were both related to the rescue performance. Rescuing patients at a hospital was physically very demanding and the time needed to complete the task depended on the VO(2max) in absolute values and the working technique used. A minimum VO(2max) of 4 l/min for firefighters was recommended.  相似文献

Plant lectins are useful targets for biophysical studies of protein-carbohydrate recognition, a process of general interest because of its many roles in human physiology. Here, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) based structural and carbohydrate binding data on a two-domain fragment of the normally four-domain barley lectin protein are presented. The structural data, while preliminary, clearly shows that the recombinantly produced simplified model system, called BLBC, retains a nativelike fold. However, unlike the full-length parent protein, which is dimeric, BLBC is shown by pulsed-field gradient NMR diffusion studies to be largely monomeric. Still, the fragment retains nativelike carbohydrate binding properties. These properties are examined in some detail using heteronuclear single quantum coherence (HSQC) NMR spectroscopy on a uniformly 15N-labeled sample. Ligand-induced chemical shift changes in the 1H-15N HSQC spectrum are monitored as 15N-labeled BLBC is titrated with increasing concentrations of the unlabeled carbohydrate, N,N',N"-triacetylchitotriose. Well-resolved resonances from the individual domains show that BLBC binds ligand at two distinct and independent ligand binding sites, one in each domain. Binding constants of (1.1 +/- 0.2) x 10(3) M-1 and (0.6 +/- 0.2) x 10(3) M-1 are determined for the B and C domain sites, respectively. These results are discussed in relation to ligand binding studies that have previously been carried out on a highly homologous protein, wheat germ agglutinin.  相似文献

Efforts to determine whether Δ?-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ?-THC) and anandamide elicit similar discriminative stimulus effects have yielded conflicting results. The difficulty in establishing a discriminative cue to anandamide may be due to its metabolic instability. Rats were trained to discriminate either Δ?-THC or O-1812, a metabolically stable anandamide analog, from vehicle to avoid this issue. O-1812 and Δ?-THC substituted for each other; however, both drugs were more potent in the O-1812-trained rats. Further, O-1812 only substituted for Δ?-THC at response rate decreasing doses. The CB? antagonist, SR141716A, blocked the discriminative stimulus effects of both drugs but augmented their rate effects. O-1839, a VR? agonist, failed to substitute for either cannabinoid. These results suggest that the discriminative stimulus effects of Δ?-THC and O-1812 are similar, but subtle differences also exist. Three commercial cold rolled Al‐killed steels were investigated to study the effect of annealing conditions on the crystallographic texture and the resulting plastic anisotropy. The heating rates, maximum temperatures and isothermal holding times were varied in 18 laboratory scale thermal cycles applied to all steels. The annealed and skin‐passed samples were tensile tested to determine mechanical properties and anisotropy parameters. Grain structures and average grain sizes were examined by an optical microscope and the textures were measured by X‐ray diffraction. It was found that the chemical composition of the steel had a significant effect on the texture and normal anisotropy obtained at certain heating rates. The differences between the current steels were discussed in the light of the competition between the kinetics of AIN precipitation and recrystallization. Excess heating rates led to a low normal anisotropy, which was not improved by extending the isothermal time of annealing. Pancake grain structure and the grain size larger than 20 mm were found to be indicators of the properly chosen heating rate and resulting in high normal anisotropy. At the proper heating rate high normal anisotropy was attained at low annealing temperatures and in short isothermal times, but a longer isothermal annealing was required to obtain a low yield strength.  相似文献

Several subjective rating schemes were investigated to determine which might be the most effective for use in designing and evaluating car seats, and what relationships exist among these schemes. Participants (n=27) completed short-term driving sessions, in six combinations of seats (from vehicles ranked high and low on overall comfort), vehicle class (sedan and SUV), and driving venue (lab-based and field). Overall ratings were obtained, as well as separate measures of comfort and discomfort of the whole body and local body parts. No association was found between subjective ratings and a publicly available overall vehicle comfort score (J.D. Power and Associates’ Comfort Score), implying that other factors besides sitting comfort/discomfort (and car seats) account for overall vehicle comfort. Other major results were that contemporary car seats appear to best accommodate those of middle stature, that packages/seats of sedans were preferred over those of SUVs, that separate processes appeared to be involved in determining whole body comfort and discomfort, and that ratings of comfort were most effective at differentiating among the car seats. Finally, a scheme for the use of subjective ratings was suggested: discomfort ratings for ensuring basic seat requirements (pain prevention-oriented) and comfort ratings for promoting advanced seat requirements (pleasure promotion-oriented).

Relevance to industry

Evidence regarding the advantages and disadvantages of different subjective rating schemes can facilitate future design and evaluation of automotive seats.  相似文献
