Temperature measurement during microwave heating in industrial and commercial processes can improve quality, throughput, and energy conservation. Conventional ways of measuring temperature inside a microwave oven cavity are costly, inconvenient, or unsuitable for high-volume industrial applications. In this paper, we describe the theory of microwave radiometry as applied to the measurement of temperature during microwave heating. By extending the theory of radiative transfer to the case of thermal microwave radiation inside a cavity, we show that the same characteristics which make a microwave cavity suitable for heating materials also assist in obtaining meaningful temperature data with microwave radiometry. We present experimental data from the heating of liquid and solid materials which confirm the essential features of the theory, and show agreement between this method and more conventional methods of +/-4 degrees C. 相似文献

A study was performed to evaluate alternative methods for predicting the ultraviolet (UV) reactor performance using computational fluid dynamics. The study consists of modeling the UV fluence distribution and microbial inactivation using either Lagrangian or Eulerian methods for both low- and medium-pressure UV reactors. In the Eulerian method, fluence distributions were calculated using a flow-weighted and a mass-weighted fraction technique. The results show that the Eulerian flow-weighted fraction fluence distribution agreed well with the Lagrangian particle tracking fluence distribution when applied to the UV reactor outlet plane. However, when applied to planes downstream from effluent hydraulic structures, the Eulerian fluence distribution method was influenced by the additional convective mixing from these hydraulic structures and predicts a tighter fluence distribution range than the Lagrangian method. The Eulerian approach to modeling microbial inactivation seems comparable to the Lagrangian particle tracking approach and can be viewed as a suitable alternative to the Lagrangian approach. The results also show that the Eulerian mass-weighted fraction distribution is comparable to the microbial kinetic weighted Lagrangian particle tracking approach, which can provide greater sensitivity to the low fluence regions in the UV reactor. 相似文献

We present a new approach to anisotropic diffusion based on a multidirectional diffusion flux. The diffusion flux is decomposed in an orthogonal basis, effectively enabling enhancement of contours as well as diffusion along the contours. To this end, we have selected a three-dimensional basis that depicts the directions of principal curvature and has an interesting interpretation in the context of the vessels. The diffusion function associated to each vector of the basis depends on the first-order derivative of the intensity in this direction, instead of the traditional norm of the smoothed gradient. The transmittance of inductive single-layer and multilayer cross-shaped metal meshes has been calculated with the Micro-Stripes software program. The effect of symmetric and asymmetric alignment of the crosses of one mesh with respect to another was studied and compared with transmission line theory, which presents the nonaligned case. Significant differences are found for small spacing at approximately 1/5 the periodicity constant, whereas the differences disappear for large spacing. A pair of coupled surface waves is used to represent the mode of a single mesh. The resulting modes corresponding to the transmittance of multilayer metal meshes are interpreted by modes composed of resonance modes of a single mesh coupled by Fabry-Perot modes depending on the separation. 相似文献

Microcrystalline Ni-20Cr-3Al coatings weredeposited on Ni-20Cr-3Al substrates by unbalancedmagnetron-sputter deposition. The grain size of thecoatings was varied by using different Ar pressures.Cyclic-oxidation testing was performed at 1100°C. It wasfound that (1) an external-Al2O3 scale formed oncoating A (4.7 m thick, 50 nm grain size); (2) anexternal Cr2O3 scale and internalAl2O3 oxide formed on coating B (14 m thick, 500 nm grain size);and (3) an outer layer scale ofCr2O3 +NiCr2O4 and interior layer ofAl2O3 formed on the as-cast alloy.Extensive spallation of the Cr2O3+ NiCr2O4 scale took place on the as-cast alloy, but no obviousspallation occurred on the two coatings. Improvement ofthe spallation resistance of the scale is explained byeffective diffusional creep of the coatings and the micropegging effect of the inward-grownoxides. 相似文献
