Particulate composite materials (PCM) consisting of a matrix reinforced by micro to nano-sized dispersed phase are receiving the attention of designers as a promising futuristic materials. This study unearths the thermal and mechanical behavior of maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene/silica (MA-g-PP/silica) composites for reinforcement ranging from micro- to nano-size. The monodisperse silica spherical particles were used in all the formulations of composites. Further the volume fraction was kept the same in all the compounded thermoplastic composites ranging from 100 nm to 130 μm in a co-rotating conical twin-screw micro-compounder. The micrographs were obtained from transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The SEM and TEM results revealed a good dispersion of the silica spheres within the MA-g-PP matrix. The compounded composite materials were injection molded to fabricate tensile test specimens (ASTM D638 type V) and tested for tensile properties. In order to investigate the effect of particle size on crystallite structure of the matrix, the composites were tested on differential scanning calorimeter and X-ray diffraction (WAXD). The thermal stability and degradation kinetics were studied via thermogravimetric analysis. The results show increase in crystallization rate, crystallinity percentage, Young’s modulus, strength and thermal stability of MA-g-PP by addition of the silica particles. Further it was observed that the small-sized dispersed phase had better overall thermal and mechanical behavior than its larger sized counterpart. 相似文献

The photografting of methacrylic acid (MAA) on a linear low‐density polyethylene film (thickness = 30 μm) under air and nitrogen atmospheres was investigated at 60°C in mixed solvents consisting of water and an organic solvent, with xanthone as a photoinitiator. The organic solvents used were acetone, methanol, tetrahydrofuran, and dioxane. A maximum percentage of grafting occurred at a certain concentration of the organic solvent in the mixed solvent. This was observed for the systems under both air and nitrogen. The grafting reaction under air exhibited an induction period, but the rate of grafting after the period was greater than that under nitrogen. The formation of poly(ethylene peroxide)s by photoirradiation seemed to be a factor for the accelerated photografting under air. On the basis of attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy of the grafted film, the MAA‐grafted chains of the sample prepared under air tended to penetrate more deeply inside the film than those of the sample prepared under nitrogen. The resulting grafted films exhibited a pH‐responsive character: the grafted films shrank in an acidic medium but swelled in alkaline medium. The number of diabetes mellitus (DM) patients is increasing, and stroke is deeply associated with DM. Recently, neuroprotective effects of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) are reported. In this study, we explored whether liraglutide, a GLP-1 analogue exerts therapeutic effects on a rat stroke model. Wistar rats received occlusion of the middle cerebral artery for 90 min. At one hour after reperfusion, liraglutide or saline was administered intraperitoneally. Modified Bederson’s test was performed at 1 and 24 h and, subsequently, rats were euthanized for histological investigation. Peripheral blood was obtained for measurement of blood glucose level and evaluation of oxidative stress. Brain tissues were collected to evaluate the level of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The behavioral scores of liraglutide-treated rats were significantly better than those of control rats. Infarct volumes of liraglutide-treated rats at were reduced, compared with those of control rats. The level of derivatives of reactive oxygen metabolite was lower in liraglutide-treated rats. VEGF level of liraglutide-treated rats in the cortex, but not in the striatum significantly increased, compared to that of control rats. In conclusion, this is the first study to demonstrate neuroprotective effects of liraglutide on cerebral ischemia through anti-oxidative effects and VEGF upregulation. 相似文献

The fracture energies of the tape-cast silicon nitride with and without 3 wt% rod-like β-Si3 N4 seed addition were investigated by a chevron-notched-beam technique. The material was doped with Lu2 O3 –SiO2 as sintering additives for giving rigid grain boundaries and good heat resistance. The seeded and tape-cast silicon nitride has anisotropic microstructure, where the fibrous grains grown from seeds were preferentially aligned parallel to the casting direction. When a stress was applied parallel to the fibrous grain alignment direction, the strength measured at 1500°C was 738 MPa, which was almost the same as room temperature strength 739 MPa. The fracture energy of the tape-cast Si3 N4 without seed addition was 109 and 454 J/m2 at room temperature and 1500°C, respectively. On the contrary, the fracture energy of the seeded and tape-cast Si3 N4 was 301 and 781 J/m2 at room temperature and 1500°C, respectively, when a stress was applied parallel to the fibrous gain alignment. The large fracture energies were attributable primarily to the unidirectional alignment fibrous Si3 N4 grains. 相似文献

Rapid and accurate analysis of platelet count plays an important role in evaluating hemorrhagic status. Therefore, we evaluated platelet counting performance of a hematology analyzer, Celltac F (MEK-8222, Nihon Kohden Corporation, Tokyo, Japan), that
features easy use with low reagent consumption and high throughput while occupying minimal space in the clinical laboratory. All blood samples were anticoagulated with dipotassium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA-2K). The samples were stored
at room temperature (18^C–22^C) and tested within 4 hours of phlebotomy. We evaluated the counting ability of the Celltac F hematology analyzer by comparing it with the platelet counts obtained by the flow cytometry method that ISLH and ICSH recommended, and also the manual visual method by Unopette (Becton Dickinson Vacutainer Systems). The ICSH/ISLH reference method is based on the fact that platelets can be stained with monoclonal antibodies to CD41 and/or CD61. The dilution ratio was optimized after the precision, coincidence events, and debris counts were confirmed by the reference method. Good correlation of platelet count between the Celltac F and the ICSH/ISLH reference method (r = 0.99, and the manual visual method (r= 0.93) were obtained. The regressions were y = 0.90 x+9.0 and y=1.11x+8.4, respectively. We conclude that the Celltac F hematology analyzer for platelet counting was well suited to the ICSH/ISLH reference method for rapidness and reliability. 相似文献

Disposable Australian iron-slurry (AL) and NiO-MoO3-Al2O3 (NiMo) catalysts were used in hydrocracking experiments to convert Marlim vacuum residue (ML-VR) in a slurry-bed continuous flow reactor at temperatures of 440-460 °C, under a hydrogen pressure of 14.7 MPa and an LHSV of 0.5. The degree of conversion ranged from 54 to 83%, depending on the reaction temperature and catalyst used, with AL giving more complete conversion than NiMo. AL also proved more active in the removal of nickel. Hydrogen consumption was linearly correlated with conversion regardless of the catalyst used. 相似文献

Mannosylerythritol lipids (MELs), which are one of the representative sugar-based biosurfactants (BSs) produced by microorganisms, have attracted much attention in various fields in the sustainable development goals (SDGs) era. However, they are inseparable mixtures with respect to the chain length of the fatty acids. In this study, self-assembling properties and structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies of recovery effects on damaged skin cells using chemically synthesized MELs were investigated. It was revealed, for the first time, that synthetic and homogeneous MELs exhibited significant self-assembling properties to form droplets or giant vesicles. In addition, a small difference in the length of the fatty acid chains of the MELs significantly affected their recovery effects on the damaged skin cells. A novel fabrication route to make macroporous silicon carbide (SiC) has been proposed in this study. The route is composed of the following two steps: the fabrication of porous α‐SiC/novolac‐type phenolic composite using hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) as a curing/blowing agent for the novolac monomer and a conventional reaction‐bonded (RB) sintering of the composite. The α‐SiC/novolac‐type phenolic composite was carbonized at 800°C for 2 h in N2 gas and then reacted with the molten silicon at 1450°C for 30 min under vacuum, resulting in the macroporous RB‐SiC with an open porosity of 48% and relatively large pore size of ~110 μm. The compressive strength of the macroporous RB‐SiC was 113 MPa, which is relatively high compared to those reported for macroporous SiC of equivalent porosities and pore sizes. 相似文献

The present study was carried out to examine if the positional distribution of medium-chain fatty acid (MCF) in dietary synthetic
fat influences lymphatic transport of dietary fat and the chemical composition of chylomicrons in rats with permanent cannulation
of thoracic duct. Four types of synthetic triacylglycerol were prepared: (i) sn-1(3) MCF-sn 2 linoleic acid, (ii) interesterified sn-1(3) MCF-sn 2 linoleic acid, (iii) sn-2 MCF-sn-1(3) linoleic acid, and (iv) interesterified sn-2 MCF-sn-1(3) linoleic acid. A purified diet composed of equal amounts of the synthetic fat and cocoa butter was given to rats with
permanent lymph duct cannulation. The positional distribution of MCF in the dietary fat had no significant effect on the lymph
flow, triacylglycerol output, phospholipid output, lipid composition of chylomicrons, or the particle size. The positional
distribution of MCF in the synthetic triacylglycerol was maintained in the chylomicron triacylglycerol. These results showed
that MCF in the dietary triacylglycerol is transported into lymphatics and the positional distribution is well preserved in

Simple transition metal oxides such as NiO, Co3O4, Fe3O4 and Cu2O were found to catalytically decompose water into H2 and O2 by mechanical energy. The reaction is regarded as “mechano-catalytic” overall water splitting” and is a quite novel catalytic reaction. In this paper, some general aspects on the mechano-catalytic overall water splitting are reviewed on simple oxides. In addition, recent results on the mechano-catalytic activity of a groups of mixed oxides, wolramite-type oxides with a formula of ABO4 (A=Fe, Co, Ni and Cu, etc., B=W, Mo), are shown. AWO4 (A=Fe, Co, Ni and Cu) decomposed water into H2 and O2 under the supply of mechanical energy, indicating that mechano-catalytic overall water splitting proceeded on wolframite-type compounds containing 3d-transition metals. AMoO4 (A=Fe, Co, Ni) also decomposed water into H2 and O2 under supply of mechanical energy. The reaction properties on wolframite-type oxides are discussed. 相似文献
