The relationship between bacterial growth and oxymyoglobin oxidation in vitro and in meat was studied. In the in vitro study, oxymyoglobin was combined with Pseudomonas fluorescens or sterile nutrient broth (control) in an airtight vessel. P. fluorescens samples showed greater metmyoglobin formation and oxygen consumption than controls. The P. fluorescens population in the reaction vessels was correlated with metmyoglobin formation (r = 0.85, P < 0.05) and oxygen consumption (r = 0.91, P < 0.05). When P. fluorescens and oxymyoglobin were combined in an airtight vessel, reducing the headspace from 13 ml and 9 ml to 3 ml resulted in greater metmyoglobin formation (P < 0.05). In the meat study, beef cores prepared from longissimus lumborum were inoculated with P. fluorescens (10(7) CFU/cm2) or sterile peptone water (control), packaged under 1% O2 (+99% N2), air, or 100% O2 and stored at 4 degrees C. Inoculated beef cores showed higher bacterial loads and metmyoglobin formation than their respective controls during 10 h storage in 1% O2, 3 days in air, and 7 days in 100% O2 (P < 0.05). This finding indicated that P. fluorescens could accelerate beef discoloration. Overall, studies demonstrated that oxygen consumption concomitant with P. fluorescens growth decreased partial oxygen pressure, which accelerated oxymyoglobin oxidation. 相似文献

This article investigates the use of computers in the elementary classroom. The research involved a review of some literature and field research done at schools in four chosen school districts in Toronto and Vancouver. A questionnaire was distributed and interviews were conducted with elementary school teachers and district consultants. From this field research, information was collected on the availabilities of hardware, software, teacher implementation, as well as on teachers' perceptions on computer use in the classroom. The survey results illustrate the state of computer use in some elementary schools. The findings provide implications for integrating computer use into the curriculum, and lays the groundwork for further research on how best to use the technology for elementary education. 相似文献

A self-organizing map (SOM) approach for vector quantization (VQ) over wireless channels is presented. We introduce a soft decoding SOM-based robust VQ (RVQ) approach with performance comparable to that of the conventional channel optimized VQ (COVQ) approach. In particular, our SOM approach avoids the time-consuming index assignment process in traditional RVQs and does not require a reliable feedback channel for COVQ-like training. Simulation results show that our approach can offer potential performance gain over the conventional COVQ approach. For data sources with Gaussian distribution, the gain of our approach is demonstrated to be in the range of 1–4 dB. For image data, our approach gives a performance comparable to a sufficiently trained COVQ, and is superior with a similar number of training epoches. To further improve the performance, a SOM–based COVQ approach is also discussed. 相似文献

Synthesis of Uniquely Structured Yolk–Shell Metal Oxide Microspheres Filled with Nitrogen‐Doped Graphitic Carbon with Excellent Li–Ion Storage Performance 下载免费PDF全文
Novel structured composite microspheres of metal oxide and nitrogen‐doped graphitic carbon (NGC) have been developed as efficient anode materials for lithium‐ion batteries. A new strategy is first applied to a one‐pot preparation of composite (FeOx‐NGC/Y) microspheres via spray pyrolysis. The FeOx‐NGC/Y composite microspheres have a yolk–shell structure based on the iron oxide material. The void space of the yolk–shell microsphere is filled with NGC. Dicyandiamide additive plays a key role in the formation of the FeOx‐NGC/Y composite microspheres by inducing Ostwald ripening to form a yolk–shell structure based on the iron oxide material. The FeOx‐NGC/Y composite microspheres with the mixed crystal structure of rock salt FeO and spinel Fe3O4 phases show highly superior lithium‐ion storage performances compared to the dense‐structured FeOx microspheres with and without carbon material. The discharge capacities of the FeOx‐NGC/Y microspheres for the 1st and 1000th cycle at 1 A g?1 are 1423 and 1071 mAh g?1, respectively. The microspheres have a reversible discharge capacity of 598 mAh g?1 at an extremely high current density of 10 A g?1. Furthermore, the strategy described in this study is generally applied to multicomponent metal oxide–carbon composite microspheres with yolk–shell structures based on metal oxide materials. 相似文献

Background: Frequent hemodialysis modifies serum phosphorus, blood pressure, and left ventricular mass (LVM). We ascertained whether frequent hemodialysis is associated with specific changes in biomarker profile among patients enrolled in the frequent hemodialysis network (FHN) trials. Methods: This was a post hoc analysis of biomarkers among patients enrolled to the FHN trials. In particular, we hypothesized that frequent hemodialysis is associated with changes in a specific set of biomarkers which are linked with changes in blood pressure or LVM. Results: Among 332 randomized patients, 243 had biomarker data available. Of these, 124 patients were assigned to 3‐times‐a‐week hemodialysis (94 [Daily Trial] and 30 [Nocturnal Trial]) and 119 patients were assigned to 6‐times‐a‐week hemodialysis (87 [Daily Trial] and 32 [Nocturnal Trial]). Frequent hemodialysis lowered phosphate, blood pressures, LVM, log fibroblast growth factor (FGF)23, and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase (TIMP)—2 levels. The fall in phosphate was associated with changes in FGF23 (r = 0.48, P < 0.001) [Daily Trial] and (r = 0.55, P < 0.001) [Nocturnal Trial]) and tended to be associated with changes in systolic blood pressure (r = 0.18, P = 0.057) [Daily Trial] and (r = 0.31, P = 0.04) [Nocturnal Trial]. Within the Daily Trial, changes in MMP2 (r = 0.20, P = 0.034) were associated with changes in LVM. In the Nocturnal Trial, changes in TIMP‐1 (r = 0.37, P = 0.029) and MMP 9 (r = ?0.38, P = 0.01) were associated with LVM changes. MMP2 changes were associated with changes in systolic blood pressure. Conclusions: Reduction of serum phosphate by frequent hemodialysis may modulate FGF23 levels and systolic blood pressure. Markers of matrix turnover are associated with LVM changes. Frequent hemodialysis may affect pathological mediators of chronic kidney disease‐mineral bone‐metabolism disorder. 相似文献

Just-in-time (JIT) and reverse logistics are two important philosophies. Coincidentally, both are related to reducing the impact on the environment. However, they are sometimes in conflict with each other. The former focuses on moving the materials smoothly which require a stable demand and supply, but the latter is weak in terms of predicting how many returned products will be processed. Therefore, there is a need to investigate the impact of JIT to reverse logistics systems. After an extensive literature review based on a model developed for this purpose, different functions, namely reverse logistics structure, process model, product life cycle, information system model, and JIT performance, have been identified that have great impact on integrating JIT with reverse logistics. In short, a process model with JIT can have a better control on cost and efficiency of reverse logistics activities, and product life cycle management with JIT helps to design the product that consider the reverse activities in various process models. Capillary electrophoresis is ideally suited to chemical analysis of individual cells. Small mammalian somatic cells (approximately 15 microns in diameter) can be analyzed by injecting the intact cell into a capillary, lysing the cell, separating and detecting the cellular components, and reconditioning the capillary prior to the next injection. In this paper, we report on technical improvements to single-cell analysis. We designed an inexpensive multipurpose single-cell injector that facilitates the following: (i) monitoring of injection, (ii) reproducible pressure- or electrokinetic-driven injection of the cell, (iii) complete cell lysis by SDS within 30 s of injection, and (iv) pressure-driven capillary reconditioning. Furthermore, we report on the analysis of glycosylation and glycolysis in single human carcinoma cells (HT29 cell line). The reliability and quality of the analysis is confirmed by comparing electropherograms from single cells and those from purified cell extracts. 相似文献
