We found that the ciliated protozoan Paramecium caudatum ON-1 was repelled by 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). P. caudatum was also repelled by phenoxyacetic acid, while it was attracted to benzoic acid. No significant behavioral response was detected with 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DP) and phenol. These results suggested that the substitution of-OH of phenol with -OCH2COOH, but not the chlorination of phenol, was important for eliciting the avoiding response to 2,4-D in P. caudatum. Electrophysiological analysis revealed that 2,4-D and phenoxyacetic acid were able to trigger the action potential in P. caudatum, whereas 2,4-DP and phenol failed to elicit electrical responses in this organism. Well test assays suggested that the avoiding reactions allowed P. caudatum to escape from the harm caused by this herbicide. 相似文献

The purpose of the present paper is to study methods to improve the stretching limit of metal sheet. The factors affecting
the stretching limit were sheet thickness, blank diameter, blank holding pressure, and forming rate. Punch radius, die radius,
and clearance between a punch and a die were retained constant. Tested materials were softened and half hardened types of
aluminum sheet. The effect of lubrication was also studied. Lubricants used were a press working oil and graphite. Stretching
by two types of punch shape, a spherical head punch and a truncated cone one, was tried in order to research the effect of
punch shape. The half hardened aluminium, which has a larger n-value, showed the larger stretching limit. The larger thickness
gave rise to the larger stretching limit. Flow characteristic of materials was poorer in larger diameter of a blank, so its
stretching limit was lower. A bit lower holding pressure, which allows drawing of materials to some extent, yielded larger
stretching limit than rigid holding. The forming rate did not so much affect stretching limit. Concerning the effect of lubrication,

A 13-year-old girl presented with two spontaneously reversible episodes of marrow hypoplasia. She subsequently developed acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) 8 months later. Southern analysis showed identical clonal immunoglobulin heavy chain gene rearrangement bands in the leukaemic cells as well as the marrow cells obtained at the two hypoplastic episodes. Hypoxanthine phosphoribosyl transferase polymorphism studies showed that the ALL blast cells, bone marrow and peripheral blood cells during the two hypoplastic episodes all exhibited clonal haematopoiesis with the same X-chromosome inactivated. This case provides strong evidence that aplastic anaemia and ALL may represent evolution of the same abnormal clone. 相似文献

Administration of monocrotaline (MCT) causes pulmonary vascular lesions consisting of monocyte/macrophage infiltration in the early phase and medial thickening in pulmonary arteries and arterioles associated with pulmonary hypertension (PH) in the later phase. However, the molecular mechanism of monocyte/macrophage infiltration and its roles remain elusive. Herein, we have evaluated the role of a potent monocyte chemotactic and activating chemokine/monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCAF/MCP-1) in MCT-induced PH in rats. A single injection of MCT induced PH at Day 21, as evidenced by increases in the ratio of right ventricular to left ventricular and septum weights (RV/LV+S) and right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP). A significant increase in macrophage number in lungs started at Day 14, reaching a maximum at Day 21. MCAF/MCP-1 levels in bronchoalveolar lavage fluids were elevated significantly at Day 14 and remained high until Day 28, whereas plasma MCAF/MCP-1 levels increased at Day 7, returning to normal levels by Day 21. Immunoreactive MCAF/MCP-1 proteins were mainly detected in macrophages in alveoli and in perivascular regions of pulmonary arterioles and venules. Intravenous administration of anti-MCAF/MCP-1 antibodies with MCT significantly decreased macrophage infiltration and eventually reduced the increases in RV/LV+S and RVSP, as well as medial thickening of pulmonary arterioles. Rhodococcus opacus B-4 and B-9 are tolerant to various organic solvents including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes and styrene, and are suitable bacterial hosts for the production of chemical products from hydrophobic substrates. A 4.4-kb endogenous plasmid (pKNR 01) was isolated from R. opacus B-4 and sequenced completely. Plasmid pKNR 01 encodes proteins that share similarity to replication proteins from the enteric bacterial and actinomycete theta-replication plasmids. A 7.4-kb chimeric plasmid, designated pKNR 01.1, was constructed by fusing XhoI-digested pKNR 01 and Escherichia coli vector pSTV 28. Plasmid pKNR 01.1 had the ability to replicate in B-4 and B-9. A protocol for transformation of B-9 by electroporation was optimized employing pKNR 01.1. Frequencies of 4.1 x 10(5) transformants per mug of plasmid DNA were obtained for B-9 cells, whereas B-4 harboring naturally occurring pKNR 01 was transformed at lower frequencies (approximately 1 x 10(4) transformants per mug of plasmid DNA). Deletion analysis of pKNR 01.1 showed that the 1.9-kb SphI-XhoI region containing the repA and rep B genes and the 0.6-kb region upstream of repA was essential for plasmid maintenance in R. opacus strains. 相似文献

Various thermo-mechanical processes were performed on a standard and a low oxygen content Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Testing was performed to determine whether it was possible to achieve a combination of tensile properties comparable to those of Ti-3Al-2.5V by means of cold working and annealing Ti-6Al-4V from a thickness of 0.671 cm (0.264 in.) to that between 0.081 and 0.094 cm (0.032-0.037 in.), which had never been carried out before. The resulting mechanical properties of this study were compared to the mechanical properties of Ti-3Al-2.5V to determine whether Ti-6Al-4V could be used as a suitable replacement for hydraulic tubing applications. The optimum results were achieved with 10-15% cold work and annealing at 750 °C (1382 °F) for 2 h between cold work reductions in thickness. It was concluded that Ti-6Al-4V was a suitable replacement for Ti-3Al-2.5V for hydraulic tubing with an increase in ultimate and yield strengths, but with a slight sacrifice of 5-10% elongation. 相似文献

A novel method for fabricating a miniaturized ionic polymer–metal composite (IPMC) with plated gold electrodes is developed by combining selective plasma irradiation and electroless plating. The membrane is irradiated by SF6 or CF4 plasmas through a stencil mask prior to plating to prevent deposition of a gold electrode in the plasma‐irradiated area. Miniaturized IPMCs are fabricated with a 400‐µm‐wide line‐and‐space pattern. The proposed method has the potential to realize miniaturized IPMCs combined with microelectromechanical system (MEMS) devices because this provides a direct and simple fabrication process. © 2014 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. A Streptococcus sobrinus gene coding for a glucosyltransferase (GTF)-S was cloned into Escherichia coli, using the bacteriophage lambda L47.1 and the plasmid vector pACYC184. The MD124 clone obtained expressed a 155 kDa GTF-S which did not react with any antisera against GTF-S1, -S2 and -I enzymes. The recombinant enzyme (designated rGTF-S3) was homogeneously purified from the MD124 cell-extract and characterized. The purified rGTF-S3 synthesized primer-independently alpha-1,6-linked linear oligosaccharides from sucrose. The dependence upon the sucrose concentration was diphasic, and the respective Km values were 1.3 and 25 mM. The properties except the Km values were similar to those of oligo-isomaltosaccharide synthase from S. sobrinus AHT. 相似文献
