A microchip-laser-pumped optical parametric amplifier produces 35-microJ, 1.537-microm pulses of 190-ps duration at 8 kHz, in a near-diffraction-limited output beam with a Fourier-transform-limited spectrum. The flight-ready laser head is pumped by 20 W of optical power from two fiber-coupled laser-diode arrays, occupies a volume of 0.14 liters, and has a mass of 0.34 kg.  相似文献

The compressive strengths of various dental cements (a zinc polycarboxylate, a zinc phosphate, a glass-ionomer and two resin-modified glass ionomers, RMGICs) have been determined following storage in pure water, 0.9% sodium chloride solution or 20 mmol dm–3 lactic acid solution for periods of time ranging from 24 h to 3 months. The glass-ionomer cement showed no differences between different storage solutions or at different storage times, whereas the zinc polycarboxylate, zinc phosphate and the resin-modified glass ionomer cements showed significant differences following storage in the solutions for 24 h compared with pure water. The zinc polycarboxylate cement was significantly weaker at 24 h in 0.9% NaCl and lactic acid than in pure water, whereas most of the other cements were significantly stronger in both 0.9% NaCl and lactic acid. One of the RMGICs (Vitremer luting, ex. 3M), however, was significantly stronger only in the NaCl solution, not in the lactic acid. In general, by 1 week, the strengths all reverted to being essentially the same as for specimens stored in pure water for most subsequent storage times, and did not change significantly on storage for up to 3 months. This effect of storage medium on the early strength has not been reported previously and since the media were chosen to model certain characteristics of natural saliva, the changes observed seem likely to occur in vivo. It is concluded that pure water is not the best medium for storing these cements if they are to behave as they do under clinical conditions. © 2001 Kluwer Academic Publishers  相似文献

Woodside Energy Ltd (Woodside), Australia’s largest independent oil and gas company, operates multiple oil and gas facilities off the coast of Western Australia. These facilities require regular cargo shipments from supply vessels based in Karratha, Western Australia. In this paper, we describe a decision support model for scheduling the cargo shipments to minimize travel cost and trip duration, subject to various operational restrictions including vessel capacities, cargo demands at the facilities, time windows at the facilities, and base opening times. The model is a type of non-standard vehicle routing problem involving multiple supply vessels—a primary supply vessel that visits every facility during a round trip taking at most 1 week, and other supply vessels that are used on an ad hoc basis when the primary vessel cannot meet all cargo demands. We validate the model via test simulations using real data provided by Woodside.  相似文献

The potential performance of implant free heterostructure In0.3Ga0.7As channel MOSFETs with gate lengths of 30, 20, and 15 nm is investigated using state-of-the-art Monte Carlo (MC) device simulations. The simulations are carefully calibrated against the electron mobility and sheet density measured on fabricated III-V MOSFET structures with a high-kappa dielectric. The MC simulations show that the 30 nm gate length implant free MOSFET can deliver a drive current of 2174 muA/mum at 0.7 V supply voltage. The drive current increases to 2542 muA/mum in the 20 nm gate length device, saturating at 2535 muA/mum in the 15 nm gate length one. When quantum confinement corrections are included into MC simulations, they have a negligible effect on the drive current in the 30 and 20 nm gate length transistors but lower the 15 nm gate length device drive current at 0.7 V supply voltage by 10%. When compared to equivalent Si based MOSFETs, the implant free heterostructure MOSFETs can deliver a very high performance at low supply voltage, making them suitable for low-power high-performance CMOS applications  相似文献

A multiplexing method for performing MS/MS on multiple peptide ions simultaneously in a quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer (QITMS) has been developed. This method takes advantage of the inherent mass bias associated with ion accumulation in the QITMS to encode the intensity of precursor ions in a way that allows the corresponding product ions to be identified. The intensity encoding scheme utilizes the Gaussian distributions that characterize the relationship between ion intensities and rf trapping voltages during ion accumulation. This straightforward approach uses only two arbitrary waveforms, one for isolation and one for dissociation, to gather product ion spectra from N precursor ions in as little as two product ion spectra. In the example used to illustrate this method, 66% of the product ions from five different precursor peptide ions were correctly correlated using the multiplexing approach. Of the remaining 34% of the product ions, only 6% were misidentified, while 28% of the product ions failed to be identified because either they had too low intensity or they had the same m/z ratio as one of the precursor ions or the same m/z ratio as a product ion from a different precursor ion. This method has the potential to increase sample throughput, reduce total analysis times, and increase signal-to-noise ratios as compared to conventional MS/MS methods.  相似文献

Abstract

A high-bandwidth optical fibre current sensor has been developed at Salford to monitor the waveform of the driving current pulse feeding into a discharge-pumped excimer laser. The sensor is a conventional intrinsic Faraday effect device but overcomes the normal bandwidth-sensitivity limits because the very large electrical current pulse used to drive the excimer laser allows detectable polarization rotation over a 60 cm length of fibre. The performance of the intrinsic sensor is compared with that of a current-viewing resistor, and of a Be12GeO20 crystal sensor.  相似文献

Adsorption isotherms of H2 and D2 deposited on single wall, closed end carbon nanotube bundles have been measured. Two temperature ranges were covered, a) T>77 K to study adsorption on high energy binding sites, and b) T<45 K to characterize adsorption on the graphite-like (graphene) outside surface of the bundles. For reference, N2 and Ar isotherms were measured at T>77 K. We observe two well defined steps in the isotherms that correspond to adsorption on at least two distinct locations, grooves/interstitials and the graphene surface. The calculated isosteric heats of adsorption, Qst, in the grooves/interstitials are approximately twice the value on the graphene.  相似文献

Bone tissue engineering using patient derived cells seeded onto porous scaffolds has gained much attention in recent years. Evaluating the viability of these 3D constructs is an essential step in optimizing the process. The alamarBlue (aB) assay was evaluated for its potential to follow in vitro cell proliferation on architecturally standardized hydroxyapatite scaffolds. The impact of the aB assayed and seeding density on subsequent in vivo bone formation was investigated. Twelve scaffolds were seeded with various densities from 250 to 2.5×106 cells/scaffold and assay by aB at 5 time points during the 7-day culture period. Twelve additional scaffolds were seeded with 2.5×105 cells/scaffold. Two control and 2 aB treated scaffolds were subcutaneously implanted into each of 6 nude mice for 6 weeks. Four observers ranked bone formation using a pair wise comparison of histological sections form each mouse. The aB assay successfully followed cell proliferation, however, the diffusion kinetics of the 3D constructs must be considered. The influence of in vitro aB treatment on subsequent in vivo bone formation cannot be ruled out but was not shown to be significant in the current study. The aB assay appears to be quite promising for evaluating a maximum or end-point viability of 3D tissue engineered constructs. Finally, higher seeding densities resulted in more observed bone formation.  相似文献

The feasibility of low-temperature fabrication of transparent electrode elements from thin films of antimony-doped tin oxide (SnO2:Sb, ATO) has been investigated via inkjet printing, rf magnetron sputtering and post-deposition excimer laser processing. Laser processing of thin films on both glass and plastic substrates was performed using a Lambda Physik 305i excimer laser, with fluences in the range 20-100 mJ cm− 2 reducing sheet resistance from as-deposited values by up to 3 orders of magnitude. This is consistent with TEM analysis of the films that shows a densification of the upper 200 nm of laser-processed regions.  相似文献

Unsteady flow of a thin film of a Newtonian fluid or a non-Newtonian power-law fluid with power-law index N driven by a constant shear stress applied at the free surface, on a plane inclined at an angle α to the horizontal, is considered. Unsteady similarity solutions representing flow of slender rivulets and flow around slender dry patches are obtained. Specifically, solutions are obtained for converging sessile rivulets (0 < α < π/2) and converging dry patches in a pendent film (π/2 < α < π), as well as for diverging pendent rivulets and diverging dry patches in a sessile film. These solutions predict that at any time t, the rivulet and dry patch widen or narrow according to |x|3/2{|x|^{3/2}} , and the film thickens or thins according to |x|{|x|} , where x denotes distance down the plane, and that at any station x, the rivulet and dry patch widen or narrow like |t|-1{|t|^{-1}} , and the film thickens or thins like |t|-1{|t|^{-1}} , independent of N.  相似文献
