We studied the glial response after inducing a lesion in the zone of the peripheral retina of tench, where there is proliferative neuroepithelium. In the retina and optic nerve, the microglial response was analysed with tomato lectin and the macroglial response with antibodies against GFAP and S-100. In lesioned retinas, there was a temporal-spatial distribution pattern of microglia. One day after lesion, primitive ramified cells appeared in the nerve fibre layer. These cells appeared progressively from the vitreal to the scleral layers until day 7 when cells appeared in all layers, with the exception of the outer plexiform layer. From this point, labelling decreased. In the optic nerve, 3 days after lesion, an increase in the number of microglial cells was observed, first in the nerve folds and from day 15 in specific areas of the optic nerve. In the central retina, in the optic nerve head and within the optic nerve itself, the appearance of microglial cells, after the lesion, near the blood vessels, could indicate a vascular origin of microglia, as has been proposed by many authors. However, we cannot discount the idea that some of the reactive microglial cells arise by proliferation of the microglia existing in the normal state. Using GFAP and S-100 antibodies, no important changes in the retina were observed, however in the optic nerve there was response to the lesion. Fatigue resistance of the photochromic diarylethene molecules 1,2-bis[2-methylbenzo[b]thyophen-3-yl]-3,3,4,4,5,5-hexafluoro-1-cyclopentene embedded in three different acrylic polymers is studied upon multiple coloration–decoloration cycles. The resistance to photofatigue is found to be different in the three polymeric materials when one-photon excitation was used for the reversible photoconversion experiment. In particular, the photochromic molecules lose their photoisomerization ability faster if they are embedded in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) with respect to poly(ethyl methacrylate-co-methyl acrylate) (PEMMA) and poly(ethyl methacrylate) (PEMA). We propose several explanations based on the physico-chemical properties of the matrix and of the photochromic molecules. In the case of two-photon excitation, which is necessary for 3D optical writing, the fatigue resistance is found to be poorer than in the one-photon case. Wort production contains a number of processing steps that are aimed at the optimal extraction of nutrients from malt, including vitamins. This research revealed that the different wort production processing steps imposed different influences on the thiamine and riboflavin vitamer content of the final sweet wort. These vitamins play vital roles within yeast metabolism, where they act as enzyme cofactors. As such thiamine vitamers play a crucial role in many decarboxylating enzymes, while riboflavin vitamers play an integral role in energy production and redox maintenance. While mashing releases valuable starch into the liquor, both thiamine and riboflavin are also extracted. The extraction of these vitamins is the greatest at 65°C and is indirectly linked to the amylase activity. When the starches are broken down during mashing, the thiamine and riboflavin vitamers are gradually released into the mash liquor. The boiling and trub removal (whirlpool) processes impose losses in both vitamins owing to the high temperatures exhibited during these stages. While hop pellets were shown to contribute a small proportion of the vitamers studied, the use of kettle finings caused a significant reduction in both thiamine and riboflavin vitamers. Thirty-two Merino lambs fed barley straw and a concentrate alone (CONTROL group) or enriched with carnosic acid [0.6 g kg(-1) dry matter (DM), CARN006 group; 1.2 g kg(-1) DM, CARN012 group] or vitamin E (0.6 g kg(-1) DM, VITE006 group) were used to assess the effect of these antioxidant compounds on meat quality. After being fed the experimental diets for at least 5 weeks, the animals were slaughtered with the 25 kg intended body weight and the different muscles (longissimus lumborum; LL, gluteus medius; GM) were sliced and kept refrigerated under modified atmosphere packaging during 0, 7 and 14 days. The results indicate that carnosic acid seemed to be useful to delay lipid peroxidation in a medium colour-stable muscle such as GM, but this effect was lower than that observed when vitamin E was supplemented to fattening lambs. On the contrary, meat texture and protection against cholesterol oxidation were equally improved with both compounds. 相似文献

This study focuses on the behavior of sodium dioctylsulfosuccinate (SDOSS) in 50/50 w/w % polystyrene/poly(butyl acrylate) (p-Sty/p-BA) latex films. Specifically, mobility and orientation are examined in the context of the film formation by the use of dynamic mechanical thermal analysis and attenuated total reflectance (ATR) Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. While for the homopolymer blends of p-Sty and p-BA, two Tg values resulting from a phase separation of p-Sty and p-BA phases are observed, only a single Tg is detected for a copolymer of the same mixture, indicating a single phase within the film. ATR FTIR spectroscopic data indicate that the phase separation of p-Sty and p-BA blends does not occur uniformly across the film. After coalescence, p-Sty particles produce a significant degree of stratification at approximately 1.6 μm from the film surface. At this depth, the polystyrene rings assume preferentially parallel orientation to the film surface. At the same time, the hydrophilic groups of SDOSS surfactant (SO−3Na+) are oriented preferentiallyparallel to the surface. Under high relative humidity conditions, water is able to diffuse into the film and swells the surface layers, thus causing them to expand. As a result, the top, predominately poly-n-BA surface becomes “thicker», and p-Sty phase appears to be near 2.3 μm from the surface. The polystyrene rings maintain their preferential parallel orientation to the surface, but the hydrophilic groups of SDOSS are able to diffuse into the film with the water uptake and are thus not present at the filmair interface. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 相似文献

The Novel Organic Cation Transporter, OCTN1, is the first member of the OCTN subfamily; it belongs to the wider Solute Carrier family SLC22, which counts many members including cation and anion organic transporters. The tertiary structure has not been resolved for any cation organic transporter. The functional role of OCNT1 is still not well assessed despite the many functional studies so far conducted. The lack of a definitive identification of OCTN1 function can be attributed to the different experimental systems and methodologies adopted for studying each of the proposed ligands. Apart from the contradictory data, the international scientific community agrees on a role of OCTN1 in protecting cells and tissues from oxidative and/or inflammatory damage. Moreover, the involvement of this transporter in drug interactions and delivery has been well clarified, even though the exact profile of the transported/interacting molecules is still somehow confusing. Therefore, OCTN1 continues to be a hot topic in terms of its functional role and structure. This review focuses on the most recent advances on OCTN1 in terms of functional aspects, physiological roles, substrate specificity, drug interactions, tissue expression, and relationships with pathology. 相似文献
