Particle emission characteristics of office printers   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
In modern society, printers are widely used in the office environment. This study investigated particle number and PM2.5 emissions from printers using the TSI SMPS, TSI CPC 3022, and 3025A TSI P-Trak and DustTrak. The monitoring of particle characteristics in a large open-plan office showed that particles generated by printers can significantly (p = 0.01) affect the submicrometer particle number concentration levels in the office. An investigation of the submicrometer particle emissions produced by each of the 62 printers used in the office building was also conducted and based on the particle concentrations in the immediate vicinity of the printers, after a short printing job, the printers were divided into four classes: non-emitters, and low, medium, and high emitters. It was found that approximately 60% of the investigated printers did not emit submicrometer particles and of the 40% that did emit particles, 27% were high particle emitters. Particle emission characteristics from three different laser printers were also studied in an experimental chamber, which showed that particle emission rates are printer-type specific and are affected by toner coverage and cartridge age. While a more comprehensive study is still required, to provide a better database of printer emission rates, as well as their chemical characteristics, the results from this study imply that submicrometer particle concentration levels in an office can be reduced by a proper choice of the printers.  相似文献

Determination of Iron Species in Samples of Iron-Fortified Food   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The paper presents the determination of iron forms in food products. The procedure of sample extraction was developed and optimized, preserving the content of particular forms of iron. The colorimetric method using 2,2′-bipirydyl (measurements at 520 nm) was applied in Fe(II) determinations, while in Fe(III) determinations, the colorimetric method with potassium thiocyanate (measurements at 470 nm) was applied. The total content of iron was determined by the technique of atomic absorption spectrometry, which allowed for the determination of iron content in organic and inorganic complex compounds. Detection limits of 1 mg kg?1 were obtained for all determined iron forms, with the precision ranging between 0.7 % and 1.5 % for 10 mg kg?1 concentration. The optimized analytical procedure was applied in the determinations of iron forms in iron-fortified food products.  相似文献

The prevalence of Yersinia enterocolitica in meat products was assessed by four methods: cold enrichment in trypticase soy broth (A), enrichment in modified Rappaport broth at 25 °C (B), concentration by immunomagnetic separation (C) and yadA nested PCR (D). Furthermore, the pathogenic potentials of the isolates were established by phenotypic and genotypic tests, and their genomic relationships were determined by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). A total of 238 samples were collected at retail level in the city of San Luis, Argentina, during the period 2007–2008. The highest Yersinia prevalence in meat products was observed by method D (92 positive samples), followed by methods A (13 positive samples) and C (5 positive samples); however, no isolation was obtained by method B. Fourteen Y. enterocolitica and 4 Yersinia intermedia strains were recovered by culture. All Y. enterocolitica 2/O:9 strains gave results related to virulence by phenotypic tests and exhibited the genotype virF+myfA+ail+ystA+. Two biotype 1A strains showed a genotype virFmyfAail+ystA+ystB+. The 14 Y. enterocolitica strains isolated during this work plus one reference strain were separated into 11 genomic types by PFGE. This genomic heterogeneity of the isolates shows the diversity of Y. enterocolitica strains in our region. It is the first time that IMS was used to search Y. enterocolitica strains from naturally contaminated meat products.  相似文献

While recent research has provided valuable information as to the composition of laser printer particles, their formation mechanisms, and explained why some printers are emitters while others are low emitters, questions relating to the potential exposure of office workers remained unanswered. In particular, (i) what impact does the operation of laser printers have on the background particle number concentration (PNC) of an office environment over the duration of a typical working day? (ii) What is the airborne particle exposure to office workers in the vicinity of laser printers? (iii) What influence does the office ventilation have upon the transport and concentration of particles? (iv) Is there a need to control the generation of, and/or transport of particles arising from the operation of laser printers within an office environment? (v) What instrumentation and methodology is relevant for characterizing such particles within an office location? We present experimental evidence on printer temporal and spatial PNC during the operation of 107 laser printers within open plan offices of five buildings. The 8 h time-weighted average printer particle exposure is significantly less than the 8 h time-weighted local background particle exposure, but that peak printer particle exposure can be greater than 2 orders of magnitude higher than local background particle exposure. The particle size range is predominantly ultrafine (<100 nm diameter). In addition we have established that office workers are constantly exposed to nonprinter derived particle concentrations, with up to an order of magnitude difference in such exposure among offices, and propose that such exposure be controlled along with exposure to printer derived particles. We also propose, for the first time, that peak particle reference values be calculated for each office area analogous to the criteria used in Australia and elsewhere for evaluating exposure excursion above occupational hazardous chemical exposure standards. A universal peak particle reference value of 2.0 × 10(4) particles cm(-3) has been proposed.  相似文献

Waste management systems are a non-negligible source of greenhouse gases. In particular, methane and carbon dioxide emissions occur in landfills due to the breakdown of biodegradable carbon compounds operated on by anaerobic bacteria. The conventional possibilities of reducing the greenhouse effect (GHE) from waste landfilling consists in landfill gas (LFG) flaring or combustion with energy recovery in reciprocating engines. These conventional treatments are compared with three innovative possibilities: the direct LFG feeding to a fuel cell (FC); the production of a hydrogen-rich gas, by means of steam reforming and CO2 capture, to feed a stationary FC; the production of a hydrogen-rich gas, by means of steam reforming and CO2 capture, to feed a vehicle FC. The comparison is carried out from an environmental point of view, calculating the specific production of GHE per unit mass of waste disposed in landfill equipped with the different considered technologies.  相似文献

Carbon dioxide removal in power generation using membrane technology   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Carbon dioxide separation by means of membranes from methane reformed synthesis gas and from semi-closed cycle flue gases has been studied. In the first case, removing carbon dioxide using membrane is more energy consuming than removing it, from the same synthesis gas, using chemical absorption, leading to overall energy conversion efficiency of about 39% for the recuperated-auto thermal reforming (R-ATR) cycle equipped with membrane vs. 45% for the same R-ATR equipped with chemical absorption. With reference to the semi-closed cycle, the net cycle efficiency in the case of membrane removal (42.7%) seems to be not very far from the chemical absorption case (46%). Finally, published data about CO2 membrane separation specific cost have been analysed, showing that the membrane technology for flue gas application can be competitive with respect to chemical absorption if CO2 flue gas concentration is higher than 10%.  相似文献

Performance analysis and life cycle assessment (LCA) of an integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) fed with biomass with upstream CO2 chemical absorption has been carried out. The main working conditions have been determined by mean of partial exergetic analysis. A sensitivity analysis with respect to the CO2 absorbing solution composition has also been carried out. The reachable efficiency ranges between 35% and 36%, depending on gas turbine technology level. In comparison with efficiency values previously found for an IGCC fed with coal with upstream CO2 chemical absorption (38–39%), the configuration studied seems to be attractive because of the possibility of operating with a simplified scheme (without H2S removal process) and at atmospheric pressure and for the possibility of using biomass in a more efficient way with respect to conventional combustion systems. Due to the lower efficiency, the specific CO2 emission results higher (170 kg/MW h) with respect to the cycle fed with coal and CO2 removal (130 kg/MW h). Moreover, the CO2 balance has been determined with respect to the entire life cycle of the plant, including the construction, operation, dismantling and the biomass growing phases.  相似文献

In this study, the syngas production by steam reforming (SR) and oxy-steam reforming (OSR) of clean biogas over cordierite monoliths (400 cpsi) lined with Ni, Rh, or Pt on CeO2 catalyst was deeply investigated. Structured catalysts were prepared by using an alternative method to traditional washcoating based on the combination of the solution combustion synthesis (SCS) with the wetness impregnation (WI) technique. TEM and SEM analysis were used to study the morphology of the catalytic layer and to determine its thickness, while the quality of the coating in terms of adhesion on the monolith was evaluated by ultrasonic treatment in isopropyl alcohol solution. The performance and the stability of the structured catalysts were investigated at different process parameters, namely temperature (700–900 °C), steam-to-carbon (S/C = 1–5) and oxygen-to-carbon (O/C = 0.1–0.2) molar ratios, and weight space velocity (WSV = 30,000–250,000 NmL gcat?1 h?1). The SCS + WI deposition method allowed obtaining a uniform and thin coated layer with high mechanical strength. The following order of activity was exploited: Rh > Pt > Ni for biogas SR and Rh > Pt ≈ Ni for biogas OSR. The Rh-based catalyst exhibited higher activity and long-lasting stability towards biogas SR and OSR reactions for syngas production.  相似文献
