The activities of iron (Fe) and aluminum (Al) were measured in Fe-Al alloys at 1573 K using the ion-current-ratio technique in a high-temperature Knudsen cell mass spectrometer. The Fe-Al solutions exhibited negative deviations from ideality over the entire composition range. In human designer usage, symbols have a rich semantics, grounded on experience, which permits flexible usage — e.g. design ideation is improved by meanings triggered by contrastive words. In computational usage however, symbols are syntactic tokens whose semantics is mostly left to the implementation, resulting in brittle failures in many knowledge-based systems. Here we ask if one may define symbols in computational design as {label,meaning} pairs, as opposed to merely the label. We consider three questions that must be answered to bootstrap a symbol learning process: (a) which concepts are most relevant in a given domain, (b) how to define the semantics of such symbols, and (c) how to learn labels for these so as to form a grounded symbol. We propose that relevant symbols may be discovered by learning patterns of functional viability. The stable patterns are information-conserving codes, also called chunks in cognitive science, which relate to the process of acquiring expertise in humans. Regions of a design space that contain functionally superior designs can be mapped to a lower-dimensional manifold; the inter-relations of the design variables discovered thus constitute the chunks. Using these as the initial semantics for symbols, we show how the system can acquire labels for them by communicating with human designers. We demonstrate the first steps in this process in our baby designer approach, by learning two early grounded symbols, tight and loose.  相似文献

The optical response of vacuum-evaporated Cd1−xZnxTe thin films in the 1.5-5.6 eV photon energy range at room temperature has been studied by spectroscopic ellipsometry. The films of Cd1−xZnxTe (x=0.04) were deposited at room temperature onto well-cleaned glass substrates of film thickness 450 nm. The measured dielectric-function spectra reveal distinct structures at energies of the E1, E11 and E2 critical points corresponding to the interband transitions. Dielectric related optical constants such as complex refractive index, the absorption coefficients and the normal incidence reflectivity, are presented. Results are in satisfactory agreement with the calculations over the entire range of the photon energies.  相似文献

Dislocations in the base material are shown to significantly influence zero-bias impedance of long wavelength infrared HgCdTe photodiodes by acting as a shunt, and by influencing their minority carrier lifetime. Consequently, temperature dependence of zero-bias resistance-area product (R/sub 0/A) of these photodiodes can be described very well over a broad temperature range, down to 25 K, after taking into account the temperature and dislocation dependence of the minority carrier lifetime in addition to the shunt resistance contribution of dislocations. Further, based on the theoretical prediction that the shunt resistance contribution of a dislocation is a sensitive function of the magnitude of the charge around its core, it is proposed that the scatter of the R/sub 0/A experimental data in diodes with dislocation densities of less than 1/spl times/10/sup 7/ cm/sup -2/ could be the result of statistical variations in the charge around the core of dislocations. Interaction of dislocations among themselves may be responsible for deviations above dislocation densities of 1/spl times/10/sup 7/ cm/sup -2/.  相似文献

Grammar induction (also known as grammar inference or language learning) is the process of learning grammar from training data. This paper presents hybrid genetic algorithm (GA) Tool for handling premature convergence for the case of grammar induction. The tool is developed in Java and the results are tested for the set of 20 languages. It is an effort towards introduction of a hybrid GA system where the collection of more than one type of reproduction methods is used for the grammar induction. Paper also includes the discussion on the various approaches used by author for handling the premature convergence problem in using GA.  相似文献

We report the fluorescence properties of Sm3+-doped lead telluroborate glasses of composition PbF2.TeO2.H3BO3.Sm2O3 as a function of Sm3+ concentration. A Judd-Ofelt scheme was used to determine the intensity parameters and radiative properties of Sm3+ ion. The emission and decay measurements were carried out at 402 nm excitation. Beyond 1.0 mol% Sm3+ concentration, the luminescence quenching is observed. The decay curves of 4G5/2 level are well fitted to a single exponential function. The evaluated radiative properties suggest that the 4G5/2 → 6H7/2 transition is responsible for reddish-orange luminescence which might be used in the development of visible lasers.  相似文献

Site selection is a key factor in any aquaculture operation, affecting both success and sustainability as well as solving land or water use conflicts. This study was conducted to identify suitable sites for carp farming development in urban water bodies (UWBs) of Chittagong, Bangladesh using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) based MultiCriteria Evaluation (MCE) of water, soil and infrastructure database. ASTER imagery and 14 thematic layers were analyzed with ENVI and GIS capabilities, and developed a series of GIS models to identify and prioritize the appropriate UWBs for carp farming. The study identified 487 UWBs occupying 362 ha and revealed 280 ha (77%) is the most suitable, 36 ha (10%) is moderately suitable and 46 ha (13%) is not suitable which was consistent with field verification. The results are encouraging for extension of carp culture and diversify the economic activities of the urban dwellers.  相似文献

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a hematological disease marked by abnormal growth of B cells in bone marrow. Inherent chromosomal instability and DNA damage are major hallmarks of MM, which implicates an aberrant DNA repair mechanism. Studies have implicated a role for CDK12 in the control of expression of DNA damage response genes. In this study, we examined the effect of a small molecule inhibitor of CDK12–THZ531 on MM cells. Treatment of MM cells with THZ531 led to heightened cell death accompanied by an extensive effect on gene expression changes. In particular, we observed downregulation of genes involved in DNA repair pathways. With this insight, we extended our study to identify synthetic lethal mechanisms that could be exploited for the treatment of MM cells. Combination of THZ531 with either DNA-PK inhibitor (KU-0060648) or PARP inhibitor (Olaparib) led to synergistic cell death. In addition, combination treatment of THZ531 with Olaparib significantly reduced tumor burden in animal models. Our findings suggest that using a CDK12 inhibitor in combination with other DNA repair inhibitors may establish an effective therapeutic regimen to benefit myeloma patients.  相似文献

Li+ conductive solid polymeric electrolytes (SPEs) have been prepared by complexing Li salts LiX (X = I, SCN, CLO4, CF3SO3) with poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB) an amorphous polymer with a low Tg value and well known for its outstanding laminating properties. These self-supporting SPEs have been prepared by the solution cast technique using cyclohexanone, tetrahydrofuran, and n-butyl alcohol as solvents. The XRD and DSC investigations correlated to measured ionic conductivities have revealed that in addition to the amorphous nature of the resulting complex, its Tg value, the concentration and the values of the lattice energies of the complexing salts, the solvent used in making the SPEs also govern the value of ionic conductivity. Highest ionic conductivity values attained in SPEs made with n-butyl alcohol are explained in terms of the interception of the hydrogen bonding due to solvation.  相似文献
