Mechanical, instrumented Charpy V-notch (CVN) energy and plane strain fracture toughness properties of SiC whisker reinforced-6061 aluminium metal matrix composite material from an extruded tube have been determined. The effect of thermal treatment and orientation have been studied. The mechanical strength properties are higher than wrought Al 6061 in the T6 condition. CVN energy values, however, were reduced by an order of magnitude.K lc fracture toughness of the as-received, T6 and degassed + T6 thermal treatments were 50% of the wrought Al 6061 alloy. The effect of orientation showed that the orientation with the least amount of SiC whisker in the crack plane (i.e. greatest mean free path between reinforcements) yields the highest toughness value.  相似文献

A simple and quantitative method for the determination of (1→3) (1→4)-β-D-glucan in barley flour and malt is described. The method allows direct analysis of β-glucan in flour and malt slurries. Mixed-linkage β-glucan is specifically depolymerized with a highly purified (1→3) (1→4)-β-D-glucanase (lichenase), from Bacillus subtilis, to tri-, tetra- and higher degree of polymerization (d.p.) oligosaccharides. These oligosaccharides are then specifically and quantitatively hydrolysed to glucose using purified β-D-glucosidase. The glucose is then specifically determined using glucose oxidase/peroxidase reagent. Since barley flours contain only low levels of glucose, and maltosaccharides do not interfere with the assay, removal of low d.p. sugars is not necessary. Blank values are determined for each sample allowing the direct measurement of β-glucan in maltsamples.α-Amylasedoes not interfere with the assay. The method issuitable for the routineanalysis of β-glucan in barley samples derived from breeding programs; 50 samples can be analysed by a single operator in a day. Evaluation of the technique on different days has indicated a mean standard error of 0–1 for barley flour samples containing 3–8 and 4–6% (w/w) β-glucan content.  相似文献

The paper provides a discourse on the use that can be made of data derived from corporate data systems in reducing the cost of ownership of IT. The paper is based on a series of case studies carried out on systems in use at Rolls-Royce and Associates Limited. The case studies draw on data contained in the corporate IT help desk system, and system monitors. It describes the methodology used to draw together metrics for failure and use in determining the whole life cost of IT systems. This is demonstrated through examples of cost improvement initiatives applied to personal computers. The paper concludes with a summary of simple system attributes that can both improve our understanding of the more cost significant system elements, and which can then be used to carry through a TQM cost reduction initiative.  相似文献

A mathematical model for weld heat sources based on a Gaussian distribution of power density in space is presented. In particular a double ellipsoidal geometry is proposed so that the size and shape of the heat source can be easily changed to model both the shallow penetration arc welding processes and the deeper penetration laser and electron beam processes. In addition, it has the versatility and flexibility to handle non-axisymmetric cases such as strip electrodes or dissimilar metal joining. Previous models assumed circular or spherical symmetry. The computations are performed with ASGARD, a nonlinear transient finite element (FEM) heat flow program developed for the thermal stress analysis of welds.* Computed temperature distributions for submerged arc welds in thick workpieces are compared to the measured values reported by Christensen1 and the FEM calculated values (surface heat source model) of Krutz and Segerlind.2 In addition the computed thermal history of deep penetration electron beam welds are compared to measured values reported by Chong.3 The agreement between the computed and measured values is shown to be excellent.  相似文献

This study monitored stream temperatures over two hydrological years at various nested scales within the large, unregulated river Dee catchment (North East Scotland). These scales were (i) the whole catchment (11 sites along main stem Dee); (ii) the tributary (single sites in main tributaries); (iii) the Girnock (five sites in one subcatchment); and (iv) the reach (26 points across single reach). The aim was to characterize the thermal regime of all locations and compare the magnitude of variation between each scale. The controls on this variation were assessed via a multiple linear regression model using Geographic Information System‐derived catchment data. Temperatures were collected at 15‐min resolution and for further analysis and discussion combined to daily means. At the catchment and subcatchment scales, a west to east gradient in mean and minimum temperatures was observed, largely paralleling changes in altitude. Temperature differences between subcatchments were generally greater than between the sites along the main stem of the Dee. Differences between tributaries reflected differences in their morphology and land use. However, some tributaries had similar thermal regimes, despite different catchment and riparian characteristics. Subcatchment differences in thermal regimes of one of the tributaries corresponded to riparian vegetation reduced diurnal variability in sections dominated by broadleaf woodland. Compared with the larger scales, reach differences in thermal regime were small (e.g. mean temperatures of riffle, pool and margin habitats were within 0.3°C). The most noticeable difference was in relation to the point samples within the backwater area, which has a more constant thermal regime, most probably reflecting its groundwater source. The regression analysis indicated that monthly mean temperatures can be predicted well using elevation and catchment area. Forest cover was a significant explanatory variable during the summer months. However, some of the empirical temperature data from the Dee indicate that similar thermal regimes can result from different physical controls and processes that have important implications for the extrapolation of such predictive models. Conceptual Clustering,Categorization, and Polymorphy   总被引:5,自引:5,他引:0  
In this paper we describe WITT, a computational model of categorization and conceptual clustering that has been motivated and guided by research on human categorization. Properties of categories to which humans are sensitive include best or prototypical members, relative contrasts between categories, and polymorphy (neither necessary nor sufficient feature rules). The system uses pairwise feature correlations to determine the similarity between objects and clusters of objects, allowing the system a flexible representation scheme that can model common-feature categories and polymorphous categories. This intercorrelation measure is cast in terms of an information-theoretic evaluation function that directs WITT'S search through the space of clusterings. This information-theoretic similarity metric also can be used to explain basic-level and typicality effects that occur in humans. WITT has been tested on both artificial domains and on data from the 1985 World Almanac, and we have examined the effect of various system parameters on the quality of the model's behavior.  相似文献

The effects of environmental humidity on the flow characteristics of a multicomponent (composite) plasma spray powder have been investigated. Angular and spherical BaF2−CaF2 powder was fabricated by comminution and by atomization, respectively. The fluorides were blended with nichrome, chromia, and silver powders to produce a composite plasma spray feedstock. The tap density, apparent density, and angle of repose were measured at 50% relative humidity (RH). The flow of the powder was studied from 2 to 100% RH. The results suggest that the feedstock flow is only slightly degraded with increasing humidity below 66% RH and is more affected above 66% RH. There was no flow above 90% RH except with narrower particle size distributions of the angular fluorides, which allowed flow up to 95% RH. These results offer guidance that enhances the commercial potential for this material system.  相似文献
