Binary blends of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC) were found to display a peculiar crystallization kinetics. The two biodegradable polymers were blended by melt mixing, to obtain binary blends at various compositions. Temperature‐modulated calorimetry and dynamic‐mechanical analysis indicated that the blend components are partially miscible, and display two separate glass transitions, at temperatures intermediate to those of the plain polymers. Electron microscopy analysis disclosed the morphology of PLA/PPC blends, made of PPC‐rich particles finely dispersed within the PLA‐rich matrix. The possible establishment of interactions between the functional groups of the two polymers upon melt mixing has been hypothesized as the reason for partial miscibility and compatibility of the two biodegradable polymers. The PLA/PPC blends display good mechanical properties, with enhanced performance at rupture compared with plain PLA. Most importantly, the addition of PPC affects also the crystallization kinetics of PLA, since the more mobile PPC chains favor diffusion of the stiffer PLA chain segments towards the growing crystals, which fastens the spherulite growth rate of PLA. Such positive influence of an amorphous polymer on crystal growth rate has been demonstrated here for the first time in blends that display phase‐separation in the melt. POLYM. ENG. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of incorporating polyphenolic‐enriched fractions from murta leaves on the oxidative stability of linseed oil microencapsulated by spray drying. For this purpose, polyphenol‐enriched fractions from murta leaves were separated by gel permeation chromatography and chemically characterized. The oxidative stability of microencapsulated linseed oil (MLO) with antioxidants was evaluated in storage conditions at 25°C for 40 days. The antioxidant effects of the polyphenolic fractions and commercial antioxidants (BHT and trolox) on microencapsulated oil were evaluated by the value of conjugated dienes, peroxide, and p‐anisidine. In the initiation step of the oxidation, no significant oxidation delay (p>0.05) in MLO containing fractions F6, F8, or BHT and trolox was observed. However, in the termination step of the oxidation, the addition of fractions F6, F8, and BHT and trolox decreases significantly (p ≤ 0.05) the rancidity in MLO. Furthermore, the results of this study demonstrated the importance of the addition of natural antioxidants such as fractions of murta leaf extract in microencapsulated linseed oil to increase its resistance to oxidation. Practical applications: For incorporating linseed oil, a source of omega‐3 fatty acids, in the diet it is necessary to protect it against oxidative rancidity, the main cause of deterioration that affects food with a high unsaturated fat content. Microencapsulation is effective in retarding or suppressing the oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids and natural plants extracts are effective in inhibiting the lipid oxidation of microencapsulated oil. The use of process technology and a natural additive is expected to increase storage stability and enable its use in dry foods such as instant products. Linseed oil can be used in human nutrition as well as in animal feed as a replacement for fish oil. 相似文献

Recent progress in nanotechnology has enabled us to fabricate sub-wavelength architectures that function as antennas for improving the exchange of optical energy with nanoscale matter. We describe the main features of optical antennas for enhancing quantum emitters and review the designs that increase the spontaneous emission rate by orders of magnitude from the ultraviolet up to the near-infrared spectral range. To further explore how optical antennas may lead to unprecedented regimes of light-matter interactions, we draw a relationship between metal nanoparticles, radio-wave antennas and optical resonators. Our analysis points out how optical antennas may function as nanoscale resonators and how these may offer unique opportunities with respect to state-of-the-art microcavities. 相似文献

Investigation was focused on the impact of high power ultrasound (HPUS), also called thermosonication, on the oxygen permeation properties (permeability, solubility and diffusion coefficients) of barrier films aimed for food packaging. For this purpose, biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) coated with acrylic/polyvinylidene chloride (BOPPAcPVDC) and biaxially oriented coextruded polypropylene (BOPPcoex) were used. The physical–chemical profile of the samples was determined using goniometry. There is a significant impact only of extreme HPUS conditions (the longest time and the highest amplitude) on the permeability, solubility and diffusion coefficients of oxygen through the BOPP films. The highest influence on the oxygen permeability in both investigated BOPP samples involved an HPUS with an amplitude of 100% during a 6 min treatment. Reproduction in social insect societies reflects a delicate balance between cooperation and conflict over offspring production, and worker reproduction is widespread even in species showing strong reproductive skew in favor of the queen. To navigate these conflicts, workers are predicted to develop the means to estimate the queen’s fecundity - potentially through behavioral and/or chemical cues - and to adjust their reproduction to maximize their fitness. Here, we introduced bumble bee, Bombus impatiens, workers to queens of different mating and reproductive status and examined worker reproduction and expression levels of two genes which were previously shown to be sensitive to the presence of the queen, vitellogenin and Krüppel-homolog 1. We further explored whether the queen’s chemical secretion alone is sufficient to regulate worker reproduction, aggression and gene expression. We found that worker ovary activation was inhibited only in the presence of egg-laying queens, regardless of their mating status. Workers reared in the presence of newly-mated queens showed intermediate vitellogenin expression levels relative to workers reared with mated egg-laying and virgin queens. However, none of the whole-body chemical extracts of any of the queen treatment groups affected ovary activation, aggressive behavior, or gene expression in workers. Our findings indicate that only the presence of a freely-behaving, egg-laying queen can fully inhibit worker reproduction. It remains to be determined if workers detect differences in queen mating status and fecundity through differences in the queens’ behavior alone or through the queen’s behavior in concert with fertility signals. 相似文献

This work demonstrates the obtention of Nb2O5 nanoparticles by the microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis method in a fast way and with the use of low temperatures. The heat treatment applied on the samples promotes the phase change in Nb2O5 from pseudohexagonal to orthorhombic as the temperature increases, with a particle size between 7.3 and 32.6 nm. The band gap of the samples decreases with increasing temperature, obtaining a minimum value of 3.04 eV at 800°C. Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) were assembled using the Doctor Blade coating technique. The photovoltaic parameters of open-circuit voltage (Voc) and short-circuit current density (Jsc) were evaluated. The cells showed a photovoltaic response, demonstrating that Nb2O5 has a semiconductive potential. The DSSC have different characteristics regarding Jsc and Voc, showing that according to the temperature increase in the semiconductor sample, there is a decrease in the photovoltaic parameters of the cells. 相似文献

This research work concerns the electrochemical study of dopamine and ascorbic acid in the presence of the cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. From this study is possible to note that the cetyltrimethylammonium bromide greatest influence was on the dopamine, because it disfavors both its oxidation and reduction, thereby giving a smaller heterogeneous rate constant, k 0, value than in its absence, provoking that the process tends to irreversibility. On the contrary, for the ascorbic acid case, its oxidation was favored; these effects can influence the separation of the dopamine and ascorbic acid voltammetric signals up to 453 mV. Further, the method could be optimized through differential pulse voltammetry to proceed with the analytic determination of dopamine in the presence of ascorbic acid displaying usable analytic parameters, namely: a linearity range of 0–130 μM, a sensitivity of (6.318 ± 0.002) μA mM?1, a detection limit of (11 ± 0.1) μM, and a quantification limit of (37 ± 0.2) μM, which made it possible to effect the quantification on a commercial pharmaceutical sample. 相似文献
