Evidence-based methods for evaluating marketing interventions such as A/B testing have become standard practice. However, the pitfalls associated with the misuse of this decision-making instrument are not well understood by managers and analytics professionals. In this study, we assess the impact of stationarity on the validity of samples from conditioned time series, which are abundant in web metrics. Such a prominent metric is the bounce rate, which is prevalent in assessing engagement with web content as well as the performance of marketing touchpoints. In this study, we show how to control for stationarity using an algorithmic transformation to calculate the optimum sampling period. This distance is based on a novel stationary ergodic process that considers that a stationary series presents reversible symmetric features and is calculated using a dynamic time warping algorithm in a self-correlation procedure. This study contributes to the expert and intelligent systems literature by demonstrating a robust method for sub-sampling time-series data, which are critical in decision making.  相似文献

We present a method that detects boundaries of parts in 3D shapes represented as point clouds. Our method is based on a graph convolutional network architecture that outputs a probability for a point to lie in an area that separates two or more parts in a 3D shape. Our boundary detector is quite generic: it can be trained to localize boundaries of semantic parts or geometric primitives commonly used in 3D modeling. Our experiments demonstrate that our method can extract more accurate boundaries that are closer to ground-truth ones compared to alternatives. We also demonstrate an application of our network to fine-grained semantic shape segmentation, where we also show improvements in terms of part labeling performance.  相似文献

Wearable technology comes with the promise of improving one’s lifestyles thru data mining of their physiological condition. The potential to generate a change in daily or routine habits thru these devices leaves little doubt. Whilst the hardware capabilities of wearables have evolved rapidly, software apps that interpret and present the physiological data and make recommendations in a simple, clear and meaningful way have not followed a similar pattern of evolution. Existing fitness apps provide routinely some information to the wearer by mining personal data but the subsequent analysis is limited to supporting ad hoc personal goals. The information and recommendations presented are often either not entirely relevant or incomplete and often not easy to interpret by the wearer. The primary motivation behind this research is to address this wearable technology software challenge by developing a middleware mobile app that is supported by data analytics and machine learning to assist with interpretation of wearer data and with making of personal lifestyle improvement recommendations on the go which may then be used to feedback to the wearer’s daily goals and activities. The secondary motivation is to correlate and compare with trends in the wearer’s peer community.  相似文献

Ultrasound imaging of the common carotid artery (CCA) is a non-invasive tool used in medicine to assess the severity of atherosclerosis and monitor its progression through time. It is also used in border detection and texture characterization of the atherosclerotic carotid plaque in the CCA, the identification and measurement of the intima-media thickness (IMT) and the lumen diameter that all are very important in the assessment of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Visual perception, however, is hindered by speckle, a multiplicative noise, that degrades the quality of ultrasound B-mode imaging. Noise reduction is therefore essential for improving the visual observation quality or as a pre-processing step for further automated analysis, such as image segmentation of the IMT and the atherosclerotic carotid plaque in ultrasound images. In order to facilitate this preprocessing step, we have developed in MATLAB® a unified toolbox that integrates image despeckle filtering (IDF), texture analysis and image quality evaluation techniques to automate the pre-processing and complement the disease evaluation in ultrasound CCA images. The proposed software, is based on a graphical user interface (GUI) and incorporates image normalization, 10 different despeckle filtering techniques (DsFlsmv, DsFwiener, DsFlsminsc, DsFkuwahara, DsFgf, DsFmedian, DsFhmedian, DsFad, DsFnldif, DsFsrad), image intensity normalization, 65 texture features, 15 quantitative image quality metrics and objective image quality evaluation. The software is publicly available in an executable form, which can be downloaded from http://www.cs.ucy.ac.cy/medinfo/. It was validated on 100 ultrasound images of the CCA, by comparing its results with quantitative visual analysis performed by a medical expert. It was observed that the despeckle filters DsFlsmv, and DsFhmedian improved image quality perception (based on the expert's assessment and the image texture and quality metrics). It is anticipated that the system could help the physician in the assessment of cardiovascular image analysis.  相似文献

The ‘loop’ involving residues 98–110 in Bacillusstearothermophilus lactate dehydrogenase (BSLDH) is of greatinterest as substrate-induced ‘loop’ closure isthought to berate-limiting and essential in catalyzing the reactionand in determining substrate specificity. Consequently, we haveexplored the mechanism underlying ‘loop’ openingin BSLDH through a molecular dynamics simulation at high temperature(1000 K) in the presence of explicit solvent, starting fromthe X-ray structure of BSLDH complexed with the co-enzyme NAD+and oxamate at 2.5 Å. During the simulation, a significantconformational change occurred, as evidenced by sharp dihedralangle transitions, hydrogen bond breaking and formation andlarge root mean square deviations from the starting structure;these changes define the criteria for ‘loop’ opening.The mechanical elements responsible for ‘loop’ opening,i.e. ‘loop’ hinges and flap, are defined througha combination of order parameters, dihedral angle changes andtheir correlations and the dynamical cross-correlation map ofatomic displacements for the ‘loop’ residues. Theresults indicate that the ‘loop’ consists of twoflexible hinge regions on either side of a relatively rigidthree-residue segment that undergoes a significant spatial displacementduring ‘loop’opening. ‘Loop’ openingis made possible through an array of correlated dihedral anglechanges and intra-& ‘loop’ rearrangements ofhydrogen-bond interactions. The presentfindings are comparedto previous work related to ‘loop’ opening and site-directedmutagenesis experiments.  相似文献

In this paper, some new results on distributed fault diagnosis of continuous-time nonlinear systems with partial state measurements are proposed. By exploiting an overlapping decomposition framework, the dynamics of a nonlinear uncertain large-scale dynamical system is described as the interconnections of several subsystems. Each subsystem is monitored by a Local Fault Diagnoser: a set of local estimators, based on the nominal local dynamic model and on an adaptive approximation of the interconnection and of the fault function, allows to derive a local fault decision. A consensus-based protocol is used in order to improve the detectability and the isolability of faults affecting variables shared among different subsystems because of the overlapping decomposition. A sufficient condition ensuring the convergence of the estimation errors is derived. Finally, possibly non-conservative time-varying threshold functions guaranteeing no false-positive alarms and theoretical results dealing with detectability and isolability sufficient conditions are presented.  相似文献

This work presents a novel control scheme based on approximating the inverse process dynamics with a radial basis function (RBF) neural network model, trained with the fuzzy means algorithm. The produced RBF network constitutes an inverse model of the process, which can be applied as an explicit control law. In order to avoid extrapolation in the RBF model predictions, a concept borrowed from chemometrics, namely the applicability domain, is incorporated to the proposed framework. Moreover, an error correction term is added, allowing the inverse neural controller to account for modeling errors and process uncertainty and eliminate offset. The proposed approach is applied to the control of a nonlinear Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) exhibiting multiple equilibrium points, including an unstable one. A comparison with other control schemes on various tests, including set-point tracking, unmeasured disturbance rejection and process uncertainty highlights the advantages of the proposed controller.  相似文献
