The current IEC standard for wind turbine power performance measurement only requires measurement of the wind speed at hub height assuming this wind speed to be representative for the whole rotor swept area. However, the power output of a wind turbine depends on the kinetic energy flux, which itself depends on the wind speed profile, especially for large turbines. Therefore, it is important to characterize the wind profile in front of the turbine, and this should be preferably achieved by measuring the wind speed over the vertical range between lower and higher rotor tips. In this paper, we describe an experiment in which wind speed profiles were measured in front of a multimegawatt turbine using a ground–based pulsed lidar. Ignoring the vertical shear was shown to overestimate the kinetic energy flux of these profiles, in particular for those deviating significantly from a power law profile. As a consequence, the power curve obtained for these deviant profiles was different from that obtained for the ‘near power law’ profiles. An equivalent wind speed based on the kinetic energy derived from the measured wind speed profile was then used to plot the performance curves. The curves obtained for the two kinds of profiles were very similar, corresponding to a significant reduction of the scatter for an undivided data set. This new method for power curve measurement results in a power curve less sensitive to shear. Integrins are a family of cell adhesion molecules reported to mediate cellular interactions essential for normal embryonic morphogenesis. Here we describe a beta integrin subunit that is expressed during early embryogenesis in the sea urchin embryo and appears to be necessary for normal development. The deduced amino acid sequence of betaL is similar to vertebrate beta integrin subunits, but is most closely related to the sea urchin betaG subunit. Northern blots show that betaL is expressed at all stages with maximum expression beginning during gastrulation. Immunolocalization and in situ RNA hybridization show that in blastulae betaL is expressed in the blastoderm and by the ring of bottle cells in the vegetal plate during the initial phase of gastrulation. Presumptive secondary mesenchyme cells express high levels of betaL throughout elongation of the archenteron and in the pluteus betaL is expressed by blastocoelar cells, skeletal mesenchyme, and pigment cells. Antibodies and Fab fragments against betaL block spreading of dissociated embryonic cells on RGD (arginine-glycine-aspartate)-containing substrates. Treating embryos with anti-betaL antibodies blocks the initial phase of gastrulation and interferes with the organization of actin filaments. Prior to gastrulation, the antibodies cause thickening of the blastoderm and later in development defects in skeletal patterning result. Probing for antibody in treated embryos indicates that it penetrates the ectoderm to cells within the blastocoel and is actively endocytosed. We propose that betaL forms receptors that bind to RGD-containing ligands and anchors actin filaments. These receptors appear to be essential in several aspects of morphogenesis. 相似文献

Central neurokinin-1 (NK-1) receptors are thought to modulate aversion, whereas the periaqueductal gray matter (PAG) is a common pathway for the integration of fear behaviors. The authors determined whether injection of an NK-1 agonist (GR73632) into subregions of the PAG would alter fear-related behaviors in rats. Behavioral inactivity was increased by GR73632 injected into the caudodorsal PAG or the dorsal raphe. Flight behavior induced by stimulation of the dorsal PAG or by a footshock was decreased after injection of GR73632 into the dorsal PAG. Rats that had 6 pairings of a tone with a footshock after injection of GR73632 into the dorsal PAG displayed more freezing behavior than controls at the beginning of the session. However, there was no change in the shock- or the tone-induced freezing because some GR73632-treated rats, but no controls, froze during the baseline period. The design philosophy of this portable network operating system is based on the client-server model, and uses layering techniques based on the network architecture proposed by Mimica and Marsden. The PNOS uses a uniform interprocess communications mechanism to handle both interhost and intrahost communications, using the concept of ports. It has been designed for implementation as a ‘guest layer’, using an existing operating system base, thus retaining the system call conventions of the base operating system. In this way, the great majority of application software and utilities written for the base operating system can still be used with PNOS. The pilot version has been implemented over CP/M 80. Issues such as the design of suitable supporting high-level protocols, and handling of different naming conventions, are for further study. 相似文献

There is an increase in plasma concentrations of immunoreactive (ir) inhibin unaccompanied by a rise in plasma progesterone during early pregnancy in the marmoset monkey. We investigated the potential involvement of hCG and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in stimulating a selective increase in inhibin concentrations by measuring the production of ir-alpha-inhibin and progesterone by dispersed luteal cells cultured under serum-free conditions. After one day, hCG had no effect on progesterone production by the cells but stimulated a significant increase (p < 0.05) in alpha-inhibin production. PGE2 significantly increased progesterone production (p < 0.001) but inhibited the production of alpha-inhibin (p < 0.001). After three days of culture, output of alpha-inhibin fell to low levels and no significant effect of hCG or PGE2 was detected. Progesterone also fell with time in culture, but hCG maintained production resulting in a significant increase above control levels (p < 0.001). The addition of low density lipoproteins (LDL) to the culture medium increased progesterone production (p < 0.001) while decreasing alpha-inhibin production (p < 0.01). Immunoneutralization of endogenous alpha-inhibin resulted in a significant decrease in both basal (p < 0.05) and gonadotropin-stimulated (p < 0.05) progesterone concentrations. These results provide further evidence for differential control of progesterone and alpha-inhibin production by marmoset luteal cells and show that hCG can selectively stimulate alpha-inhibin production. In addition, alpha-inhibin may have a local paracrine action in the marmoset CL, enhancing both basal and gonadotropin-stimulated progesterone secretion. 相似文献

Lebanon bologna raw batter was inoculated with Escherichia coli O157:H7 to achieve a level of 7.5 to 7.9 log cfu/g on MacConkey sorbitol agar, 202 agar, and phenol red agar with 1% sorbitol. We propose that the basal ganglia support a basic attentional mechanism operating to bind input to output in the executive forebrain. Such focused attention provides the automatic link between voluntary effort, sensory input, and the calling up and operation of a sequence of motor programmes or thoughts. The physiological basis for this attentional mechanism may lie in the tendency of distributed, but related, cortical activities to synchronise in the gamma (30 to 50 Hz) band, as occurs in the visual cortex. Coherent and synchronised elements are more effective when convergence occurs during successive stages of processing, and in this way may come together to give the one gestalt or action. We suggest that the basal ganglia have a major role in facilitating this aspect of neuronal processing in the forebrain, and that loss of this function contributes to parkinsonism and abulia. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether the stiff limb syndrome may be separated from the stiff man syndrome and progressive encephalomyelitis with rigidity on simple clinical grounds, and whether such a distinction has implications for aetiology, treatment, and prognosis. METHODS: Twenty three patients referred over a 10 year period with rigidity and spasms in association with continuous motor unit activity, but without evidence of neuromyotonia, extrapyramidal or pyramidal dysfunction or focal lesions of the spinal cord were reviewed. The patients were divided into those with an acute or subacute illness, leading to death within 1 year, and those with a chronic course. The latter were divided into those in whom rigidity and spasms dominated in the axial muscles, or in one or more distal limbs, at the time of their first assessment. RESULTS: This simple division identified three distinct groups of patients. (1) Progressive encephalomyelitis with rigidity: two patients had a rapidly progressive condition characterised by widespread rigidity which resulted in death within 6 and 16 weeks. One patient had negative anti-GAD and anti-neuronal antibodies, but had markedly abnormal CSF and widespread denervation. The principal pathological findings in this case were a subacute encephalomyelitis which primarily affected the grey matter. In the remaining patient anti-GAD antibodies were not tested, and postmortem was refused. (2) Stiff man syndrome: eight patients had rigidity and painful spasms of the lumbar paraspinal, abdominal, and occasionally proximal leg muscles associated with a lumbar hyperlordosis. There was no involvement of the upper limbs, distal lower limbs, sphincters or cranial nerves. Seven had anti-GAD antibodies and most had additional evidence of autoimmune disease. Neurophysiologically there was continuous motor unit activity with abnormal exteroceptive reflexes, but a normal interference pattern during spasms. The patients all responded to baclofen/diazepam and remained ambulant. (3) Stiff limb syndrome: thirteen patients had rigidity, painful spasm, and abnormal postures of the distal limb, ususphincter or brainstem involvement. Generalised myoclonic jerks were not a feature. Only two had truncal rigidity, and another two had anti-GAD antibodies. Most had no evidence of autoimmune disease. Neurophysiologically they had continuous motor unit activity in the affected limb, abnormal exteroceptive reflexes, and abnormally segmented EMG activity during spasms. The disease ran a protracted course, and most patients had only a partial response to baclofen or diazepam. About half became wheelchair bound. CONCLUSIONS: The stiff limb syndrome seems distinct from the stiff man syndrome or progressive encephalomyelitis with rigidity, and is an important cause of rigidity and spasm in the setting of continuous motor unit activity. 相似文献
