A consistent and relatively simple method is presented for studying the unpiloted ignition of polymeric materials in contact with hot air. The ignition behavior of a particular polymer as determined by its bulk properties may be characterized by the relationship between sample mass and ignition time at constant area for a series of furnace temperatures. Extrapolation of this linear relationship at a given furnace temperature to zero mass results in an intrinsic ignition time which represents the rate of the ignition process when the time required to heat the sample to its decomposition temperature has been eliminated, i.e., the sample is brought to its decomposition temperature instantaneously. The temperature dependence of this intrinsic ignition time shows an Arrhenius relationship with an apparent activation energy of 8–10 kcal/mole for all but one material investigated. This indicates that the mechanism controlling the kinetics of such an ignition process is a physical one, most likely the diffusion of combustible gaseous products into the heated air surrounding the sample. 相似文献

Colitis cystica profunda is a benign disease of the colon. Its importance lies in differentiating it from mucus-producing adenocarcinoma. It has rarely been described in the surgical literature. A review of records of patients seen at the Mayo Clinic produced 66 clinical cases of localized colitis cystica profunda, and in 21 patients the diagnosis was confirmed histologically. Follow-up, which was available in all patients, ranged from 2 months to 29 years, with a mean follow-up of more than 8 years. Nineteen laboratories participated in a collaborative study to evaluate the performance of validation samples consisting of powdered infant formula and cereal-based weaning food artificially contaminated with low levels of Salmonella anatum. The Standard method BS EN ISO 6579:2002 was to be followed for the trial. Salmonella counts in each baby food were around 10 CFU/25 g (low) or 10 CFU/g (high level). Trial participants received five samples of each sample type and five blank samples. All samples contained Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Lactobacillus spp. at concentrations between 10(4) and 10(5) CFU/g as background flora. Precision data for the powdered infant formula were similar for the solid selective plating-out medium xylose-lysine-deoxycholate (XLD) and a 2nd choice of agar suitable to isolate Salmonella spp. The sensitivity was 91.3%, accordance 82.5% and concordance 83.9% for the low and 100% for the high level in all cases. For the cereal-based weaning food, the precision data for the high level were similar for XLD and the 2nd choice medium (98.8%, 97.5% and 97.5%). A slight difference was observed for the low level where XLD obtained values of 82.5%, 73.8%, 70.6% for sensitivity, accordance and concordance and the second choice medium values of 81.5%, 72.5% and 69%. The electronic or quantum control of individual molecules with the scanning tunnelling microscope offers exciting perspectives on operating molecular nanomachines. This implies the use of semiconductor surfaces rather than metallic surfaces which would rapidly quench the electronic excitations. Superconductivity and magnetism are two antagonistic cooperative phenomena, and the intriguing problem of their coexistence has been studied for several decades. Recently, artificial hybrid superconductor-ferromagnet systems have been commonly used as model systems to reveal the interplay between competing superconducting and magnetic order parameters, and to verify the existence of new physical phenomena, including the predicted domain-wall superconductivity (DWS). Here we report the experimental observation of DWS in superconductor-ferromagnet hybrids using a niobium film on a BaFe(12)O(19) single crystal. We found that the critical temperature T(c) of the superconductivity nucleation in niobium increases with increasing field until it reaches the saturation field of BaFe(12)O(19). In accordance with the field-shift of the maximum value of T(c), pronounced hysteresis effects have been found in resistive transitions. We argue that the compensation of the applied field by the stray fields of the magnetic domains as well as the change in the domain structure is responsible for the appearance of the DWS and the coexistence of superconductivity and magnetism in the superconductor-ferromagnet hybrids. 相似文献

Nanotube-containing membranes prepared by the template method show promise for use as highly selective filters for membrane-based chemical and biological separations. Most of the work to date has been done on gold nanotubes prepared by electroless deposition of Au within the pores of polymeric filtration membranes. These polymeric filters have very low porosities (< 1%), and, as a result, the flux through Au nanotube membranes based on these templates is very low. In contrast, the other popular template membranes-anodic aluminas-have high porosities-30% to 50%. In spite of this potential advantage of anodic alumina templates, there have been no reports of electrolessly plated Au nanotubes within the pores of these templates. This is because the electroless plating method used to deposit Au nanotubes in polymeric templates does not work in aluminas. We have developed a modified electroless plating strategy that can be used to deposit high-quality Au nanotubes within the pores of the alumina templates.
