The antimicrobial activity of the hydro-alcohol extract of Myrtus communis L. (ME) berries was investigated against six Listeria monocytogenes strains (2 type strains and 4 isolates). Sub-lethal ME concentrations reduced L. monocytogenes counts by at least 2 log cycles. A Central Composite Design was used to investigate the combined effects of sub-lethal concentrations of ME (0.039–0.195 mL/100 mL), NaCl (0–2.0 g/100 mL) and pH (5.0–7.0) on strains growth. ME affected growth parameters, generally extending lag phase length and reducing maximum growth, sometimes with interactive effects with pH. The highest ME concentrations (0.117–0.195 mL/100 mL) combined with the lowest pH values (5.0–6.0) strongly reduced or even inhibited strains growth. 相似文献

This work is dedicated to optimization of carbide particle system in a weld bead deposited by PTAW technique over D2 tool steel with high chromium content. The paper reports partial melting of the original carbide grains of the Ni-based filling powder, and growing of the secondary carbide phase (Cr, Ni)\(_3\)W\(_3\)C in the form of dendrites with wide branches that enhanced mechanical properties of the weld. The optimization of bead parameters was made with design of experiment methodology complemented by a complex sample characterization including SEM, EDXS, XRD, and nanoindentation measurements. It was shown that the preheat of the substrate to a moderate temperature 523 K (250 \(^\circ \)C) establishes linear pattern of metal flow in the weld pool, resulting in the most homogeneous distribution of the primary carbides in the microstructure of weld bead. 相似文献

The aim of this paper is to test a technique called partial directed coherence (PDC) and its modification (squared PDC; sPDC) for the estimation of human cortical connectivity by means of simulation study, in which both PDC and sPDC were studied by analysis of variance. The statistical analysis performed returned that both PDC and sPDC are able to estimate correctly the imposed connectivity patterns when data exhibit a signal-to-noise ratio of at least 3 and a length of at least 27 s of nonconsecutive recordings at 250 Hz of sampling rate, equivalent, more generally, to 6750 data samples. 相似文献

Studies have shown that such poor practices are widespread. All organizations have data architectures, whether explicitly documented or implicitly assumed. An important data management process is to document the architecture's capabilities, making it more useful to the organization. Increasing data management practice maturity levels can positively impact the coordination of data flow among organizations, individuals, and systems. Automatically generating effective test suites promises a significant impact on testing practice by promoting extensively tested software within reasonable effort and cost bounds. Code-based test generators rely on the source code of the software under test to identify test objectives and to steer the test case generation process accordingly. Currently, the most mature proposals on this topic come from the research on random testing, dynamic symbolic execution, and search-based testing. This paper studies the effectiveness of a set of state-of-the-research test generators on a family of industrial programs with nontrivial domain-specific peculiarities. These programs are part of a software component of a real-time and safety-critical control system and integrate in a control task specified in LabVIEW, a graphical language for designing embedded systems. The result of this study enhances the available body of knowledge on the strengths and weaknesses of test generators. The empirical data indicate that the test generators can truly expose subtle (previously unknown) bugs in the subject software and that there can be merit in using different types of test generation approaches in a complementary, even synergic fashion. Furthermore, our experiment pinpoints the support for floating point arithmetics and nonlinear computations as a major milestone in the path to exploiting the full potential of the prototypes based on symbolic execution in industry. 相似文献

Curing salts composed of mixtures of nitrates and nitrites are preservatives widely used in processed meats. Despite many desirable technological effects, their use in meat products has been linked to methemoglobinemia and the formation of nitrosamines. Therefore, an increasing “anti-nitrite feeling” has grown among meat consumers, who search for clean label products. In this view, the use of natural compounds as alternatives represents a challenge for the meat industry. Processing (including formulation and fermentation) induces chemical or physical changes of food matrix that can modify the bioaccessibility of nutrients and the formation of peptides, impacting on the real nutritional value of food. In this study we investigated the effect of nitrate/nitrite replacement with a combination of polyphenols, ascorbate, and nitrate-reducing microbial starter cultures on the bioaccessibility of fatty acids, the hydrolysis of proteins and the release of bioactive peptides after in vitro digestion. Moreover, digested salami formulations were investigated for their impacts on cell proliferation and genotoxicity in the human intestinal cellular model (HT-29 cell line). The results indicated that a replacement of synthetic nitrates/nitrites with natural additives can represent a promising strategy to develop innovative “clean label” salamis without negatively affecting their nutritional value. 相似文献

The α-, β- and γ-synucleins are small soluble proteins expressed in the nervous system of mammals and evolutionary conserved in vertebrates. After being discovered in the cartilaginous fish Torpedo californica, synucleins have been sequenced in all vertebrates, showing differences in the number of genes and splicing isoforms in different taxa. Although α-, β- and γ-synucleins share high homology in the N-terminal sequence, suggesting their evolution from a common ancestor, the three isoforms also differ in molecular characteristics, expression levels and tissue distribution. Moreover, their functions have yet to be fully understood. Great scientific interest on synucleins mainly derives from the involvement of α-synuclein in human neurodegenerative diseases, collectively named synucleinopathies, which involve the accumulation of amyloidogenic α-synuclein inclusions in neurons and glia cells. Studies on synucleinopathies can take advantage of the development of new vertebrate models other than mammals. Moreover, synuclein expression in non-mammalian vertebrates contribute to clarify the physiological role of these proteins in the evolutionary perspective. In this paper, gene expression levels of α-, β- and γ-synucleins have been analysed in the main organs of adult Xenopus laevis by qRT-PCR. Moreover, recombinant α-, β- and γ-synucleins were produced to test the specificity of commercial antibodies against α-synuclein used in Western blot and immunohistochemistry. Finally, the secondary structure of Xenopus synucleins was evaluated by circular dichroism analysis. Results indicate Xenopus as a good model for studying synucleinopathies, and provide a useful background for future studies on synuclein functions and their evolution in vertebrates. 相似文献

Cushing’s disease (CD) causes diabetes mellitus (DM) through different mechanisms in a significant proportion of patients. Glucose metabolism has rarely been assessed with appropriate testing in CD; we aimed to evaluate hormonal response to a mixed meal tolerance test (MMTT) in CD patients and analyzed the effect of pasireotide (PAS) on glucose homeostasis. To assess gastro-entero-pancreatic hormones response in diabetic (DM+) and non-diabetic (DM–) patients, 26 patients with CD underwent an MMTT. Ten patients were submitted to a second MMTT after two months of PAS 600 µg twice daily. The DM+ group had significantly higher BMI, waist circumference, glycemia, HbA1c, ACTH levels and insulin resistance indexes than DM− (p < 0.05). Moreover, DM+ patients exhibited increased C-peptide (p = 0.004) and glucose area under the curve (AUC) (p = 0.021) during MMTT, with a blunted insulinotropic peptide (GIP) response (p = 0.035). Glucagon levels were similar in both groups, showing a quick rise after meals. No difference in estimated insulin secretion and insulin:glucagon ratio was found. After two months, PAS induced an increase in both fasting glycemia and HbA1c compared to baseline (p < 0.05). However, this glucose trend after meal did not worsen despite the blunted insulin and C-peptide response to MMTT. After PAS treatment, patients exhibited reduced insulin secretion (p = 0.005) and resistance (p = 0.007) indexes. Conversely, glucagon did not change with a consequent impairment of insulin:glucagon ratio (p = 0.009). No significant differences were observed in incretins basal and meal-induced levels. Insulin resistance confirmed its pivotal role in glucocorticoid-induced DM. A blunted GIP response to MMTT in the DM+ group might suggest a potential inhibitory role of hypercortisolism on enteropancreatic axis. As expected, PAS reduced insulin secretion but also induced an improvement in insulin sensitivity as a result of cortisol reduction. No differences in incretin response to MMTT were recorded during PAS therapy. The discrepancy between insulin and glucagon trends while on PAS may be an important pathophysiological mechanism in this iatrogenic DM; hence restoring insulin:glucagon ratio by either enhancing insulin secretion or reducing glucagon tone can be a potential therapeutic target. 相似文献

This paper studies the flexibility available with thermostatically controlled loads (TCLs) to provide power system services by demand response (DR) activation. Although the DR activation on TCLs can provide power system ancillary services, it is important to know how long such services can be provided for when different levels of power reduction are imposed. The flexibility change with different levels of power reduction is tested experimentally with domestic fridges used by real customers with unknown user interaction. The investigation quantifies the flexibility of household fridges and the impact of DR activation in terms of deviation in the average temperature. The maximum possible power reduction with the cluster of refrigerators is 67% and the available flexibility with the cluster of refrigerators is 10%. The resulting deviation in the average temperature is 14%. 相似文献
