Compounds that simultaneously activate peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor (PPAR) subtypes α and γ have the potential to effectively treat dyslipidemia and type 2 diabetes (T2D) in a single pharmaceutically active molecule. The frequently observed side effects of selective PPARγ agonists, such as edema and weight gain, were expected to be overcome by using additive PPARα activity, leading to dual PPARα/γ agonists with balanced activity for both subtypes. Herein we report the discovery, synthesis, and optimization of a new series of α‐ethoxyphenylpropionic acid bearing 5‐ or 6‐substituted indoles. The incorporation of oxime ethers on the carbonyl portion of the benzoyl group can bring the PPARα/γ potency ratio equal to or slightly greater than one, as is the case for compounds 20 c and 21 a . Compound 20 c shows high efficacy in an ob/ob mouse model of T2D and dyslipidemia, similar to that of rosiglitazone and tesaglitazar, but with a significant increase in body weight gain. In contrast, compound 21 a , less potent as a dual PPARα/γ activator than 20 c , showed an interesting pharmacological profile, as it elicits a decrease in body weight relative to reference compounds.  相似文献

Two sets of alkyd resins of variable oil lengths with the required properties for offset printing ink formulations, modified by sunflower and rapeseed oil, were synthetized according to the “monoglyceride” process. The influence of the acyl composition of the modifying vegetable oil and of the oil content on alkyds’ properties was determined by detailed chemical and rheological characterization. Molecular structure, size, and molecule size distribution appeared to be linked to these two factors. A comparative study with two usual linseed oil-modified alkyds led to determination of the more appropriate alkyds for applications in offset varnishes.  相似文献

The present study focuses on the improvement of impact properties and particularly on the interaction between crystallinity development and mechanical properties of impact modified polylactide (PLA). The PLA was toughened by the addition of a random linear ether‐amide copolymer (PEBAX 3533?). A random copolymer of ethylene, methyl‐acrylate, and glycidyl‐methacrylate (LOTADER AX8900?) was also used to reactively compatibilize the ether‐amide copolymer with the PLA matrix. Melt rheology of the blends was investigated in small amplitude oscillatory shear and showed that the impact modifier could significantly influence the viscoelastic response of the material. The Izod impact resistance and tensile properties were measured using standard testing protocols. The blend morphology was also examined using scanning electron microscopy on cryofractured and microtomed surfaces, while the crystalline morphology was assessed by optical microscopy. A sub‐micron dispersion of the impact modifier was achieved in the presence of the reactive compatibilizer. Significantly improved impact strength was found with 10 wt % impact modifier. High crystallinity samples showed the highest impact strength with values reaching 68 kJ/m2, hence a 20‐fold improvement with respect to the neat PLA. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. The present study deals with the consolidation of an ultra‐high performance polymer, the poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK), for structural applications, using the powder metallurgy (PM) way, and more precisely the Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) processing. The effects of SPS parameters such as temperature, pressure, and dwell time on density and mechanical properties of PEEK were investigated via a Design of Experiments (DoE). A temperature of 250 °C, a pressure of 40 MPa, and a dwell time of 20 min have been identified as the optimal SPS process parameters. In these conditions, a density of 1.31 g / cm3 was reached and homogeneous mechanical properties in the volume determined by means of compression tests were found with a compressive modulus of 2.75 GPa, a yield strength of 134 MPa, and a maximum compressive strain of 43%. These results are better than those of commercial products obtained by injection molding. The pressure appears to be a significant parameter on PEEK properties and plays positive or negative roles according to the responses of DoE studied. To our knowledge, it is one of the first studies based on the application of the PM techniques for PEEK consolidation showing the possibility to process below its melting point. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Methods for the determination of mass‐transfer coefficients and effective interfacial areas in packed absorption columns are reviewed. For each parameter, the methods are grouped into categories on the basis of their physical principle; the chemical systems used, experimental protocol, and the advantages and inconveniences are discussed. The treatment of end effects, the influence of packed bed height, and the recent efforts in standardization of measurement methods are also treated. Urban agriculture increasingly supplies food and non-food services to the rapidly growing West African cities. However, with its typically heavy use of fertilizers and uncontrolled use of water, it bears severe risks of soil and groundwater pollution. This study was carried out in Bobo Dioulasso (Burkina Faso, West Africa) at two commercial gardening sites. It aimed at performing a detailed characterization of farmer’s water and nutrient management strategies. Four vegetable crops were monitored (tomato, cabbage, carrot and lettuce). Water inputs (rainfall and irrigation), nutrient inputs (organic and mineral fertilizers and nutrients in irrigation water) and crop uptake were monitored over a 1–2-year period. In addition, pan lysimeters allowed monitoring drainage. Depending on the site, 3–8% of the input water was lost by drainage, i.e., as much as 293 mm/year at one of the sites. During the dry season, when the farmer has full control over the water supply, water application exceeded plant requirements by as much as 40%, which reveals inefficient water use. Up to 800 kg N ha−1, 140 kg P ha−1 and 500 kg K ha−1 were applied for a single crop cycle. With few exceptions, crops tended to be strongly over-fertilized, except for K at one of the two sites. Nutrient supply exceeded crop requirements by 109 to 2,012 kg N, 66 to 450 kg P and 0 to 393 kg K per year. These results, in combination with the large observed rates of drainage, are indicative of a high risk of nutrient leaching and groundwater contamination. The partial factor productivity of nutrients tended to be low. These results therefore suggested that there is scope to substantially reduce nutrient application rates in these systems without adverse effects on yields, which would be beneficial for groundwater resources and improve the economic returns.  相似文献

The nutritional profile and rheological behaviors of lipids is both due to fatty acid composition and regiodistribution on external and internal positions of triacylglycerol. Actual methods for regiodistribution analysis having some restrictions, there is still a need for investigating a safe, simple and environmentally friendly method for the sn-2 position analysis that could especially be used for the analysis of fats containing medium and short chain fatty acids. The objective of this study was to evaluate the 1,3-selectivity and typoselectivity of Rhizopus oryzae lipase in the presence of short/medium chain fatty acids in partial hydrolysis conditions used for regiodistribution analysis. Structured triacylglycerols containing eight-carbon-chain length fatty acids in the sn -2 position were chemically synthesized using DCC/DMAP coupling agent and purification steps by flash-chromatography. The final product showed very high purity and was used as the substrate for 1,3-selectivity evaluation. Typoselectivity was assessed by investigating partial hydrolysis of equimolar blends of homogeneous TAG. This study confirmed the 1,3-selectivity of Rhizopus oryzae lipase in the hydrolysis conditions used, and revealed that this lipase was less influenced by fatty acids chain length than pancreatic lipase. Considering this, Rhizopus oryzae lipase appeared to be a good candidate for regiodistribution analysis of fats containing medium and short chain fatty acids.  相似文献

This study examines the influence of three different minerals, that is, clay, calcium carbonate, and quartz on the physical, thermal, and mechanical properties of poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/poly(methyl methacrylate) blend. Rheological behavior and phase structure were initially studied by small-amplitude oscillatory shear rheology. Clay- and quartz-filled materials presented an increase in viscosity at low frequency associated with the presence of a yield stress. However, this behavior was not observed for calcium carbonate filled materials due to a matrix degradation effect. To elucidate this aspect, thermal stability and thermal properties were examined by thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry, showing that calcium carbonate promotes degradation of the PLA phase. No nucleating effect was observed in the presence of the minerals. Dynamical mechanical analysis and mechanical characterization revealed an increase of the overall softening temperature and, a reinforcing effect for clay- and quartz-based composites. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
