Hierarchical mesh segmentation based on fitting primitives 总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11
In this paper, we describe a hierarchical face clustering algorithm for triangle meshes based on fitting primitives belonging
to an arbitrary set. The method proposed is completely automatic, and generates a binary tree of clusters, each of which is
fitted by one of the primitives employed. Initially, each triangle represents a single cluster; at every iteration, all the
pairs of adjacent clusters are considered, and the one that can be better approximated by one of the primitives forms a new
single cluster. The approximation error is evaluated using the same metric for all the primitives, so that it makes sense
to choose which is the most suitable primitive to approximate the set of triangles in a cluster.
Based on this approach, we have implemented a prototype that uses planes, spheres and cylinders, and have experimented that
for meshes made of 100 K faces, the whole binary tree of clusters can be built in about 8 s on a standard PC.
The framework described here has natural application in reverse engineering processes, but it has also been tested for surface
denoising, feature recovery and character skinning. 相似文献

We address the problem of autocalibration of a moving camera with unknown constant intrinsic parameters. Existing autocalibration techniques use numerical optimization algorithms whose convergence to the correct result cannot be guaranteed, in general. To address this problem, we have developed a method where an interval branch-and-bound method is employed for numerical minimization. Thanks to the properties of interval analysis this method converges to the global solution with mathematical certainty and arbitrary accuracy and the only input information it requires from the user are a set of point correspondences and a search interval. The cost function is based on the Huang-Faugeras constraint of the essential matrix. A recently proposed interval extension based on Bernstein polynomial forms has been investigated to speed up the search for the solution. Finally, experimental results are presented. 相似文献

In recent years, a web phenomenon known as Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) has produced large crowdsourced geographic data sets. OpenStreetMap (OSM), the leading VGI project, aims at building an open-content world map through user contributions. OSM semantics consists of a set of properties (called ‘tags’) describing geographic classes, whose usage is defined by project contributors on a dedicated Wiki website. Because of its simple and open semantic structure, the OSM approach often results in noisy and ambiguous data, limiting its usability for analysis in information retrieval, recommender systems and data mining. Devising a mechanism for computing the semantic similarity of the OSM geographic classes can help alleviate this semantic gap. The contribution of this paper is twofold. It consists of (1) the development of the OSM Semantic Network by means of a web crawler tailored to the OSM Wiki website; this semantic network can be used to compute semantic similarity through co-citation measures, providing a novel semantic tool for OSM and GIS communities; (2) a study of the cognitive plausibility (i.e. the ability to replicate human judgement) of co-citation algorithms when applied to the computation of semantic similarity of geographic concepts. Empirical evidence supports the usage of co-citation algorithms—SimRank showing the highest plausibility—to compute concept similarity in a crowdsourced semantic network. 相似文献

In Pavlovian appetitive conditioning, rats often acquire 2 classes of conditioned responses: those whose form is determined by the reinforcer, and those whose form is determined by characteristics of the conditioned stimulus (CS). Consistent with the results of previous lesion studies, reversible inactivation of amygdala central nucleus function during pairings of an auditory CS with food prevented the acquisition of conditioned orienting responses specific to auditory CSs, whereas food-related conditioned behaviors were acquired normally. Neither inactivation nor posttraining neurotoxic lesions of the central nucleus affected the expression of previously acquired conditioned orienting. Thus, although the central nucleus is critical to the acquisition of information required for conditioned orienting to auditory cues, it is not needed for maintaining this information for later use. Tools for the automatic decomposition of a surface into shape
features will facilitate the editing, matching, texturing,
morphing, compression and simplification of three-dimensional shapes. Different
features, such as flats, limbs, tips, pits and various blending
shapes that transition between them, may be characterized in terms
of local curvature and other differential properties of the
surface or in terms of a global skeletal organization of the
volume it encloses. Unfortunately, both solutions are extremely
sensitive to small perturbations in surface smoothness and to
quantization effects when they operate on triangulated surfaces.
Thus, we propose a multi-resolution approach, which not only
estimates the curvature of a vertex over neighborhoods of variable
size, but also takes into account the topology of the surface in
that neighborhood. Our approach is based on blowing a spherical
bubble at each vertex and studying how the intersection of that
bubble with the surface evolves. We describe an efficient approach
for computing these characteristics for a sampled set of bubble
radii and for using them to identify features, based on easily
formulated filters, that may capture the needs of a particular

In the past, the term e-learning referred to any method of learning that used electronic delivery methods. With the advent of the Internet however, e-learning has evolved and the term is now most commonly used to refer to online courses. A multitude of systems are now available to manage and deliver learning content online. While these have proved popular, they are often single-user learning environments which provide little in the way of interaction or stimulation for the student. As the concept of lifelong learning now becomes a reality and thus more and more people are partaking in online courses, researchers are constantly exploring innovative techniques to motivate online students and enhance the e-learning experience. This article presents our research in this area and the resulting development of CLEV-R, a Collaborative Learning Environment with Virtual Reality. This web-based system uses Virtual Reality (VR) and multimedia and provides communication tools to support collaboration among students. Ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation acts as a strong apoptotic trigger in many cell types, in tumor and normal cells. Several studies have demonstrated that UVB-induced cell death occurs through the generation of reactive oxygen species. The consequent oxidative stress includes the impairment of cellular antioxidants, the induction of DNA damage and the occurrence of apoptosis. In this review, we investigated UVB apoptotic action in various cell models by using ultrastructural, molecular and cytofluorimetric techniques. Myeloid leukemia HL-60, T-lymphoblastoid Molt-4 and myelomonocytic U937 human cells, generally affected by apoptotic stimuli, were studied. Human chondrocytes and C2C12 skeletal muscle cells, known to be more resistant to damage, were also considered. All of them, when exposed to UVB radiation, revealed a number of characteristic apoptotic markers. Membrane blebbing, cytoplasm shrinkage and chromatin condensation were detected by means of electron microscopy. DNA cleavage, investigated by using agarose gel electrophoresis and TUNEL reaction, was observed in suspended cells. Differently, in chondrocytes and in skeletal muscle cells, oligonucleosomic DNA fragmentation did not appear, even if a certain TUNEL positivity was detected. These findings demonstrate that UVB radiation appears to be an ideal tool to study the apoptotic behavior. 相似文献
