Ammonium removal from the wastewater treatment effluents is mandatory considering the imposed discharge limits and the recycling/reuse requirements. Ion exchange represents a viable alternative for the biological processes of ammonium removal, although concurrent processes make modeling complex. This study reports on the performance of a commercial cation exchange resin, PUROLITE C150H, for ammonium removal from synthetic aqueous solutions. Thermodynamic and kinetic process parameters are calculated using the Langmuir model (thermodynamic study) and the shrinking core model (kinetic study); the data are correlated with the surface properties of the substrate, outlining the adsorption mechanism. For initial ammonium concentrations of 25–150 mg NH4 +/L, removal efficiencies of 80–90 % were obtained. 相似文献

The aricle presents the results of a research performed in order to establish whether drying lumber from frozen state (in winter) has repercussions upon its properties, compared to drying under the same conditions lumber parts originating from the same log and position within the log section but that were not frozen prior to drying. To this purpose, spruce (Picea abies L.) lumber specimens, 35 mm and 55 mm thick, cut from the same log, half frozen at - 30°C and half unfrozen, were dried under the same conditions in a climate chamber. Some mechanical properties (hardness, bending strength, and modulus elasticity in static bending), as well as workability (expressed by means of the absorbed power and specific resistance to cutting during milling), were determined The results revealed slight differences between the frozen and the unfrozen samples both during the drying process and afterwards. It was noticed that a significant amount of water was removed from wood during the very beginning of the heating phase (thawing). With regards to wood properties after drying, a slight lowering of the mechanical properties and better workability could be established for the initially frozen samples. 相似文献

This review article explores the telocytes’ roles in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), presenting the mechanisms and hypotheses related to epithelial regeneration, progressive fibrosis, and dysmotility as a consequence of TCs’ reduced or absent number. Based on the presented mechanisms and hypotheses, we aim to provide a functional model to illustrate TCs’ possible roles in the normal and pathological functioning of the digestive tract. TCs are influenced by the compression of nearby blood vessels and the degree of fibrosis of the surrounding tissues and mediate these processes in response. The changes in intestinal tube vascularization induced by the movement of the food bowl, and the consequent pH changes that show an anisotropy in the thickness of the intestinal tube wall, have led to the identification of a pattern of intestinal tube development based on telocytes’ ability to communicate and modulate surrounding cell functions. In the construction of the theoretical model, given the predictable occurrence of colic in the infant, the two-layer arrangement of the nerve plexuses associated with the intestinal tube was considered to be incompletely adapted to the motility required with a diversified diet. The skin microbiota represents an ecosystem composed of numerous microbial species interacting with each other, as well as with host epithelial and immune cells. The microbiota provides health benefits to the host by supporting essential functions of the skin and inhibiting colonization with pathogens. However, the disturbance of the microbial balance can result in dysbiosis and promote skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis (AD). Sudden cardiac death due to arrhythmias, such as atrial fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia, account for 15–20% of all deaths. Myocardial infarction increases the burden of atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia by structural and electrical remodeling of the heart. The current management of new-onset atrial fibrillation includes electric cardioversion with very high conversion rates and pharmacologic cardioversion, with less a than 50% conversion rate. If atrial fibrillation cannot be converted, the focus becomes the control of the symptoms ensuring a constant rhythm and rate control, without considering other contributory factors such as autonomic imbalance. Recently, a huge success was obtained by developing ablation techniques or addressing the vagal nerve stimulation. On the other hand, ventricular tachycardia is more sensitive to drug therapies. However, in cases of non-responsiveness to drugs, the usual therapeutic choice is represented by stereotactic ablative therapy or catheter ablation. This review focuses on these newly developed strategies for treatment of arrhythmias in clinical practice, specifically on vernakalant and low-level tragus stimulation for atrial fibrillation and stereotactic ablative therapy for drug-refractory ventricular tachycardia. These therapies are important for the significant improvement of the management of atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, providing: (1) a safer profile than current therapies, (2) higher success rate than current solutions, (3) low cost of delivery. 相似文献

In this paper, we studied the scandium adsorption from aqueous solutions on the surface of low-temperature-activated alumina products (GDAH). The GDAH samples are industrially manufactured, coming from the Bayer production cycle of the Sierra Leone bauxite as aluminium hydroxide, and further, by drying, milling, classifying and thermally treating up to dehydroxilated alumina products at low temperature. All experiments related to hydroxide aluminium activation were conducted at temperature values of 260, 300 and 400 °C on samples having the following particle sizes: <10 µm, 20 µm, <45 µm and <150 µm, respectively. The low-temperature-activated alumina products were characterised, and the results were published in our previous papers. Genetic variability is extremely important, not only for the species’ adaptation to environmental challenges, but also for the creation of novel varieties through plant breeding. Tomato is an important vegetable crop, as well as a model species in numerous genomic studies. Its genome was fully sequenced in 2012 for the ‘Heinz 1706’ variety, and since then, resequencing efforts have revealed genetic variability data that can be used for multiple purposes, including triggering mechanisms of biotic and abiotic stress resistance. The present study focused on the analysis of the genome variation for eight Romanian local tomato varieties using next-generation sequencing technique, and as a case study, the sequence analysis of the Ve1 and Ve2 loci, to determine which genotypes might be good candidates for future breeding of tomato varieties resistant to Verticillium species. The analysis of the Ve locus identified several genotypes that could be donors of the Ve1 gene conferring resistance to Verticillium race 1. Sequencing for the first time Romanian genotypes enriched the existing data on various world tomato genetic resources, but also opened the way for the molecular breeding in Romania. Bacterial cellulose (BC) is a unique microbial biopolymer with a huge number of significant applications in the biomedical field, including bone tissue engineering. The present study proposes to obtain and characterize BC hybrid composites with calcium phosphate as biocompatible and bioactive membranes for bone tissue engineering. BC precursor membranes were obtained in static culture fermentation, and after purification, were oxidized to obtain 2,3-dialdehyde bacterial cellulose (DABC). Calcium phosphate-BC oxidized membranes were produced by successive immersion in precursor solutions under ultrasonic irradiation. The samples were characterized for their physicochemical properties using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GI-XRD), solid-state 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (CP/MAS 13C NMR), and complex thermal analysis. In vitro cell studies were also performed to evaluate the influence of modified morphological characteristics on cell adhesion and proliferation. The results showed an increase in porosity and biodegradability for DABC hybrid composites compared with BC. In vitro cell studies have revealed that both hybrid composites favor cell adhesion to the surface. The new BC and DABC hybrid composites with calcium phosphate could be considered promising materials for bone tissue regeneration. 相似文献

We consider a wireless sensor network consisting of a set of sensors deployed randomly. A point in the monitored area is covered if it is within the sensing range of a sensor. In some applications, when the network is sufficiently dense, area coverage can be approximated by guaranteeing point coverage. In this case, all the points of wireless devices could be used to represent the whole area, and the working sensors are supposed to cover all the sensors. Many applications related to security and reliability require guaranteed k-coverage of the area at all times. In this paper, we formalize the k-(Connected) Coverage Set (k-CCS/k-CS) problems, develop a linear programming algorithm, and design two non-global solutions for them.
