Coolness has recently started to be explored as a design goal for interactive products from practitioners as well as researchers within human–computer interaction (HCI), but there is still a need to further operationalise the concept and explore how we can measure it. Our contribution in this paper is the COOL questionnaire. We based the creation of the questionnaire on literature suggesting that perceived coolness is decomposed to outer cool (the style of a product) and inner cool (the personality characteristics assigned to it). In this paper, we focused on inner cool, and we identified 11 inner cool characteristics. These were used to create an initial pool of question items and 2236 participants were asked to assess 16 mobile devices. By performing exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, we identified three factors that can measure the perceived inner coolness of interactive products: desirability, rebelliousness and usability. These factors and their underlying 16 question items comprise the COOL questionnaire. The whole process of creating the questionnaire is presented in detail in this paper and we conclude by discussing our work against related work on coolness and HCI.  相似文献

Collaboration in transportation between two or more agents is becoming an important approach to find efficient solutions or plans. Efficiency can be measured in, for example, lower cost or more flexibility. An important aspect of the collaboration is to decide on how to share the benefits—for example, cost, profit, or resources. There are many sharing mechanisms or cost allocations proposed in the literature. Some are based on simple proportional rules and others are based on theoretical concepts found in game theory. We provide a survey on cost allocation methods found in the literature on collaborative transportation, including problems on planning, vehicle routing, traveling salesman, distribution, and inventory. A total of 55 scientific articles compose the main part of the survey, most of them published between 2010 and 2015. We identify more than 40 cost allocation methods used in this stream of literature. We describe the theoretical basis for the main methods as well as the cases where they are used. We also report savings from the collaborations when they are based on industrial data. Some directions for future research are discussed.  相似文献

Connectivity infrastructure, hardware and software components for point-of-care testing (POCT) environments at medium-to-large sized hospitals with expected number of POCT instruments in the order of hundreds or thousands are described. The instruments include both network-ready and non-network-ready devices. The latter are connected to the network by means of a hardware-based Instrument Network Adapter. Instrument messages are converted to standardized form and, depending on message content, are routed and delivered to appropriate destinations by a software-based Message Routing System consisting of a Message Router and a Delivery Agent. Exploring a polygon with robots when the robots do not have knowledge of the surroundings can be viewed as an online problem. Typical for online problems is that decisions must be made based on past events without complete information about the future. In our case the robots do not have complete information about the environment. Competitive analysis can be used to measure the performance of methods solving online problems. The competitive ratio of such a method is the ratio between the method's performance and the performance of the best method having full knowledge of the future. We prove constant competitive strategies and lower bounds for exploring a simple rectilinear polygon in the L1L1 metric.  相似文献

Iterative learning control (ILC) based on minimization of a quadratic criterion in the control error and the input signal is considered. The focus is on the frequency domain properties of the algorithm, and how it is able to handle non-minimum phase systems. Text and digit entry speed of two wearable one-handed input paradigms, the Finger-Joint-Gesture palm-keypad glove and the Invisible Phone Clock, were benchmarked against traditional one-handed cellular phone keypad input in a repeated-measurement design employing 18 subjects using a 9-word sentence. No significant difference in error-corrected text entry speed (5.3 ec-wpm) was found. Digit entry speed was significantly faster (8.3 ec-wpm) and differed significantly between input paradigms. Furthermore, digit entry was fastest for the traditional cellular phone keypad and slowest for the Invisible Clock keypad. A prediction model based on Fitts' law slightly overestimated text entry speed for novice users. Another prediction model, where each movement time between successive keys was corrected for key repeat time for each specific input paradigm, predicted the experimental results more accurately. Thirteen of the subjects ranked the Invisible Phone Clock as 1st choice. The subjects' mapping of the Ericsson cellular phone functions (YES, CLR, NO, <,> and Address Book) was not according to the designer's model, partly due to functional fixedness. The input paradigms could be suitable candidates for new fragmentised interfaces where wearability is the key issue.  相似文献

Isothermal storage and reduction of NO2 with CO, C3H6 and H2 as reducing agents on a lean NO x adsorber was investigated by temperature programmed desorption (TPD) and temperature programmed reduction (TPR) studies. The reduction of NO x was clearly favoured with H2 as reducing agent. Carbon monoxide and C3H6 showed fairly low reduction of NO x . The NO x reduction at low temperatures with H2 as reducing agent was found to be effective, clearly much more effective than for CO.  相似文献

The mechanical and gas‐barrier properties of paper and paperboard coated with chitosan–acetic acid salt (chitosan), whey protein isolate, whey protein concentrate and wheat gluten protein were studied. Paper sheets were solution‐coated using a hand applicator. In addition, bi‐layer composites of wheat gluten and paper or paperboard were produced by compression moulding, and the chitosan solution was also applied on paperboard using curtain coating. Young's modulus, fracture stress, fracture strain, tearing strength, air permeance and oxygen permeability were assessed. The mechanical and air permeance measurements of solution‐coated paper showed that chitosan was the most effective coating on a coat weight basis. This was due to its high viscosity, which limited the degree of penetration into the paper. The proteins, however, also enhanced the strength and toughness of the paper. Compression‐moulded wheat gluten/paper or paperboard, as well as curtain‐coated chitosan paperboard laminates, showed oxygen barrier properties comparable to those of paper and paperboard coated with commercial barrier materials. None of the composites could be delaminated without fibre rupture, indicating good adhesion between the coatings and the substrates. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In order to perform business modelling as apart of information systems development, there is a need for frameworks and methods. The paper proposes a framework for business interaction based on a language/action perspective. The framework is an architecture of five generic layers. The first layer concept is ‘business act’, which functions as the basic unit of analysis. The following four layer concepts are ‘action pair’, ‘exchange’, ‘business transaction’, and ‘transaction group’. The framework is inspired by a similar framework constructed by Weigand et al. The paper makes a critical examination of this framework as a basis for the proposed framework.  相似文献

Some movements within modern architecture particularly emphasise the importance of matching buildings to their surroundings. However, practicing such “contextual architecture” is highly challenging and typically not something the future inhabitants of a building are well equipped for participating in. This paper explores the potentials of using mobile phone technology for facilitating such client participation in the parts of an architecture process that take place on the building site. For this we introduce ArchiLens, a mobile system for interactive on-site 3D visualisation of houses, and findings from a field study with 40 participants in the process of building or modifying their home. The study showed that using the system helped evoke people’s imagination of the look and feel of their future house, and envision it in context. This enabled them to participate more closely in the design process on-site by iteratively reviewing design alternatives and exploring, for example, other placements and materials.  相似文献
