Laser-induced diamagnetism in suspension of onion-like carbon particles

It is experimentally established that the bleached fraction of a suspension of onion-like carbon (OLC) particles in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), which is clarified under the action of high-power pulsed laser radiation at λ = 1064 nm, is pushed out from inhomogeneous magnetic field. By changing the spatial arrangement of a permanent magnet relative to the point of laser action on the suspension, it is possible to control the direction of motion of the bleached fraction. The observed behavior can be explained by laserstimulated chemical reactions between OLC and DMF, which lead to the formation of a new substance with pronounced diamagnetic properties.     

On solving a maximin reliability estimation problem by selection of the instant for standby switching-on

The apparatus of duel situations with time instant selection was used to consider certain examples of analytical determination of the maximin of discontinuous criterion which characterizes the probability of maintaining system serviceability through selection of the optimal instant for activation of the redundant unit. A certain generalization to the problem of seeking the maximin of discontinuous criterion was also presented.     

The effect of the size factor of nanodiamonds in suspensions on optical power limiting and nonlinear laser light scattering

The results of experimental studies of optical power limiting (OPL) and nonlinear light scattering (NLS) at a wavelength of 532 nm in suspensions of detonation-synthesis modified nanodiamonds (MNDs) with different grain-size compositions are described. It is found that, at the same nanoparticle concentration, OPL and NLS are more efficient in suspensions with large MNDs. It is shown that MND suspensions can exhibit a stable long-term operation as OPL in a field of laser pulses with a power density of 0.2 GW/cm² at a repetition frequency of 1 Hz.     

Reduction of uranium hexafluoride adsorbed on sodium fluoride

The problem of the formation of uranium residue in spent sodium fluoride sorbent is studied. The mechanisms of the formation of un-desorbed uranium residue with thermal desorption of uranium hexafluoride from the surface sodium fluoride are examined. It is proved that hydrolysis of sorbed and gaseous uranium hexafluoride under the conditions of sublimate-separation production is impossible. The most likely mechanism of residue formation is partial reduction of hexavalent uranium, which is due to the chemical properties of the system UF₆–NaF. A possible process of uranium reduction as a result of nuclear-chemical transformations requires study and experimental confirmation.     

Lower Oxidation States of f Elements: I. Preparation and Identification of Actinides and Lanthanides in Lower Oxidation States

Studies on the title subject, published mainly in the second half of the XX century and made both with macroamounts of lanthanides (Ln) and actinides (An) and with micro- and ultramicroamounts of radionuclides of these elements, are considered. Procedures for preparing f elements in lower oxidation states in solutions, melts, and solid matrices and methods for identifying these states (electrochemistry, spectrometry, high-temperature extraction, cocrystallization, etc.) are discussed.

Formulas and tables making it possible to account for the mutual arrangement of foundations of buildings with basements are cited in developing positions for Construction Rule and Regulation 2.02.01-83 relative to calculation of the design resistance of bed soils.
