This paper attempts to highlight quantitatively and qualitatively the growth and development of world literature on materials science in terms of publication output and citations as per Web of Science (2006–2010). The objective of the study was to perform a scientometric analysis of all materials science research publications in the world. The parameters studied include growth of publications and citations, continent-wise distribution of publications and citations, country-wise distribution of publications, domain-wise distribution of publications and citations, publication efficiency index, distribution of publications and citations according to number of collaborating countries, variation of mean impact factor in materials science domains, identification of highly cited publications and highly preferred journals, quality of research output and application of Bradford’s law.  相似文献

Onion (Allium cepa L.) is an important vegetable crop consumed primarily for its ability to enhance the flavor of other foods. The quality of onion depends on its pungency. While highly pungent onions are popular in India, less pungent ones are preferred in other countries. However, the variability in pungency in bulbs of different cultivars however has not been investigated. The present investigation was therefore undertaken to determine the pungency in three popular Indian onion cultivars viz. N-2-4-1, B-780 and Phule Safed. Randomly selected bulb samples of the cultivars were analyzed for the content of pyruvic acid, total soluble solids (TSS) and reducing, non-reducing and total sugars. The red variety N-2-4-1 showed higher level of pungency, while other two varieties were comparatively less pungent.  相似文献

Pristine multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) along with the silane coupling agent were incorporated into ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber using dispersion kneader and two roller mixing mill to fabricate ablative nanocomposites used in hyperthermal environment encountered by space vehicle or rocket motor. The 1 wt% addition of MWCNTS in the rubber matrix has remarkably reduced the backface temperature elevation up to 40°C during the ablation testing of the ablatives. The linear and mass ablation resistances have been diminished up to 125% and 74%, respectively, while insulation indexes at 110°C backface temperature of the composite specimens have been elevated up to 51% with increasing the MWCNTS incorporation into the EPDM matrix. Thermal stability and heat absorbance capability of the polymer composites were progressed with increasing the filler to matrix ratio. Thermal conductivity/impedance of the ablatives have been conducted according to the ASTM E1225‐99 and D5470‐03, respectively to execute the effect of MWCNTs concentration on the thermal transport characteristics of the tested specimens. Tensile strength of the composite specimen was augmented up to 42% with increasing nanotubes to polymer ratio. Evenly dispersed MWCNTs in the polymer matrix, polymer pyrolysis, and voids formation in the ablated samples can be scrutinized in the scanning electron microscopy images. POLYM. ENG. Colossal magnetoresistive (CMR) materials with the compositional formula, Nd0.67A0.33MnO3 (where A = Ca, Sr, Ba, and Pb) in the nanocrystalline form were prepared by the PVA gel technique. After characterizing the samples structurally, a systematic investigation of magnetization has been undertaken, over a temperature range 10–300 K at 0.05 T magnetic field. An effort has been made to calculate the magnetocaloric behavior of all the samples theoretically using the experimental magnetization data. Other important parameters such as maximum entropy change, full width at half-maximum, relative cooling power, and maximum adiabatic temperature change under 0.05 T were also computed. The observed behavior has been explained qualitatively.  相似文献

Microwave‐initiated synthesis of polyacrylamide‐grafted sodium alginate, a graft copolymer with wide variety of applications has been reported in this study. The effect of reaction parameters (i.e., irradiation time and monomer concentration) onto the percentage grafting has been investigated. The resulting polymer has been characterized by a variety of characterization techniques such as intrinsic viscosity measurement, Fourier transform infrared spectra, 13C NMR spectra, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, molecular weight determination using static light scattering analysis, and scanning electron micrographs. OBJECTIVE: To assess the prognostic value of sustained improvement, scar and inducible ischemia with or without viability in patients with chronic left ventricular dysfunction (LVD). BACKGROUND: Dobutamine-atropine stress echocardiography (DASE) accurately detects scar, reversible dysfunction and the extent of coronary artery disease in LVD. METHODS: Three hundred fifty consecutive patients (age 62+/-13 years, mean+/-SD, 215 men/135 women) with moderate to severe LVD (LVEF < 40%, mean 30+/-8%) underwent DASE and were followed for > or =18 months. Dobutamine-atropine stress echocardiographic findings were classified according to sustained improvement in all vascular territories, scar, inducible ischemia (worsening wall motion at peak dose only or biphasic responses) and their extent. RESULTS: Sustained improvement occurred in 83 patients (24%), scar alone in 99 (28%) and inducible ischemia in 168 (48%, with biphasic responses in 104). Ischemia was induced in all vascular territories in 26 patients. Patients with sustained improvement or scar alone were treated medically, whereas 46% (78/168) with inducible ischemia were revascularized (coronary bypass surgery, n = 67 or angioplasty, n = 11). There were 76 hard events including cardiac death in 59, nonfatal myocardial infarction in 11, and resuscitated sudden death in 6. Hard events were rare in sustained improvement (5%, 4/83), uncommon in scar (13%, 13/99) and common (p < 0.01) in medically treated patients with inducible ischemia (59%, 53/90). Cardiac deaths were especially common (p < 0.01) in patients with biphasic responses (55%, 28/51). Inducible ischemia independently predicted hard events (chi2 = 75.35, p < 0.001) along with reduced LVEF at peak dose (chi2 = 8.38, p = 0.004). Hard cardiac events were uncommon (8%, 6/78, p < 0.001) in patients with inducible ischemia who underwent early revascularization. CONCLUSIONS: Inducible ischemia during DASE was the major determinant of outcome in LVD and independent of clinical data and left ventricular function. Improved wall thickening alone and scar alone predicted good outcome. Survival of patients with inducible ischemia was better after revascularization.  相似文献
