The Effect of 10-Methylacridinium and Potassium Iodides on the Salt Passivation of Copper and α-Brass in Chloride Solution

A comparative study of potassium and 10-methylacridinium iodides as inhibitors of copper and -brass anodic dissolution depending on the potential, rotational speed of disk electrode, and concentration of additives is performed. The effect of additives on the film formation at the metal surface is determined.

The distribution of grain boundary planes in polycrystals

During the last ten years, techniques have been developed to measure the distribution of grain boundaries in polycrystals as a function of both lattice misorientation and grain boundary plane orientation. This paper presents a brief overview of the techniques used for these measurements and the principle findings of studies implementing these techniques. The most significant findings are that grain boundary plane distributions are anisotropic, that they are scale invariant during normal grain growth, that the most common grain boundary planes are those with low surface energies, that the grain boundary populations are inversely correlated with the grain boundary energy, and that the coincident site lattice number is a poor predictor of the grain boundary energy and population.     

Towards improved design of boring bars part 1: Dynamic cutting force model with continuous system analysis for the boring bar performance

The vibrational amplitude is generally large in the case of a boring bar due to its slenderness. A dynamic cutting force model has been presented to take this large amplitude into account. The boring bar is then modelled as a cantilever with this dynamic force acting at the free end and a generalized continuous system model is obtained. This model is solved for the specific case of boring with a zero side cutting edge angle for which published results are available. A reasonably close agreement is found between the proposed model and the experimental results.

Use of Corundum Ceramics for Fine Milling of Various Materials

The wear resistance of corundum milling bodies developed by the authors is estimated compared to foreign analogs. It is established that domestic ceramics, with respect to its abrasion rate in milling electrocorundum and quartz sand, is not inferior to foreign ceramics.
