A recent meta-analysis (P. Verbaeghen & L. De Meersman, 1998a) revealed that older adults show a reliable but significantly reduced negative priming effect compared with young adults. The present study provides an updated quantitative review on the effect of aging on the magnitude of the negative priming effect in identity tasks. This analysis demonstrated that the negative priming effect was not significantly different between young and old adults. This result differs from P. Verhaeghen and L. De Meersman's study. BACKGROUND: A large number of bacterial, fungal and microalgal species are able to bio‐transform steroid compounds. Among them, fungi from the Mucor genus have been shown to mediate hydroxylation, oxidation, and desaturation by the double bond formation and epoxidation of various steroid substances. Mucor racemocus has not been studied for its ability to modify androst‐1,4‐dien‐3,17‐dione, a pharmaceutically important steroid precursor. RESULTS: The filamentous fungus M. racemosus was applied for bioconversion of androst‐1,4‐dien‐3,17‐dione (ADD, I ) in a 5‐day fermentation. Microbial metabolites were purified chromatographically and identified on the basis of their spectral data as 17β‐hydroxyandrost‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one ( II ), 14α‐hydroxyandrost‐1,4‐dien‐3,17‐dione ( III ), 15α‐hydroxyandrost‐1,4‐dien‐3,17‐dione ( IV ), 15α,17β‐dihydroxyandrost‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one ( V ), 14α,17β‐dihydroxyandrost‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one ( VI ), and 6β,17β‐dihydroxyandrost‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one ( VII ). CONCLUSION: Observed modifications included hydroxylation at C‐6β, C‐14α, C‐15α positions and 17‐carbonyl reduction. The best fermentation conditions for production of hydroxysteroid‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one derivatives were found to be 25 °C at 150 rpm for 5 days with a substrate concentration of 0.5 g L?1. Migration of soluble and suspended materials by directional freezing of aqueous systems has been studied qualitatively. Slow freezing was employed vertically as well as horizontally through solutions and suspensions. In all cases, the impurities (soluble salts as well as suspended materials) were appreciably forced out by dynamic freezing front. The phenomenon worked for concentrating/separating inorganic ions, soluble organic compounds and dyes in synthetic solutions as well as in natural streams. Various analytical techniques were employed to monitor the migrating species through the freezing media. It was found that separation efficiency depends on different factors like rate of cooling, pH and concentration. Model experiments were designed and exercised successfully to employ the technique for treatment of dye-polluted water.  相似文献

Phase relations in the Gd-Al-Si system have been established and experimentally studied at 500 °C. The system has been experimentally investigated by mean of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron microprobe analysis (EDXS) and x-ray powder diffraction (XRPD). The existence of four ternary compounds has been confirmed: τ1 GdAl2Si2 (hP5-CaAl2Si2 type), τ2 GdAlSi (tI12-αThSi2 type), τ3 Gd4AlSi3 (oC8-CrB type) and τ4 Gd6Al3Si (tI80-Tb6Al3Si type). Three ternary compounds show a composition homogeneity range: τ2 dissolves Si up to about 37 at.%, τ3 shows an homogeneity range (towards the GdSi compound) to 45 at.% Si concentration value, finally the τ4 phase dissolves 5 at.% of Si. All binary compounds dissolve the third element, except for GdAl The ternary system is characterized by 16 three-phase fields, and 16 two-phase fields.  相似文献

Polymer materials are well known to be sensitive to strain rate and temperature. Self‐heating and friction effects also play an important role in the mechanical response of these materials. Numerous constitutive laws and phenomenological models have been developed to take into account these dependencies. This article proposes a simplified phenomenological model based on a mapping technique for the strain rate and temperature dependence. The effects of friction and adiabatic heating are also analyzed in this work. Relatively good results are obtained compared to experimental results for polypropylene and polychlorotrifluoroethylene. A parametric investigation of the effects of the interfacial equivalent stress (between the specimen and the compressive bars) and the fraction of plastic work converted into heat was performed. A new polymer nanocomposites of an epoxy resin matrix with randomly dispersed nano‐vanadium sesquioxides (V2O3) in various amounts were prepared. The structure of the nanocomposites were characterized by scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM), X‐ray diffraction, hardness, packing factor, extent of filler reinforcement, glass transition temperature, and sound velocity. The percolation threshold in the conductivity of the composites is lesser than 8 wt % and the dielectric constant can reach as high as 103. The resistivity—temperature curve of the composites shows a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) effect. The thermal stability of the composites was examined in terms of thermal gravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry (TG and DTA) and isothermal resistivity–time check. Because of the interfacial interaction among filler particles and the epoxy matrix, the nanocomposites exhibit higher thermal stability. The current–voltage–temperature curves behave as switching current. The temperature increases linearly with the applied voltage which makes this PTC nanocomposites very useful for temperature probe. Finally, electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (SE) values have been calculated and measured for the nanocomposites in the frequency range 1–12 GHz. It is found that the SE properties of the nanocomposite improve with increase in wt % of V2O3. A maximum SE of 42 dB for V20 sample at 12 GHz has been achieved. These nanocomposites are potentially useful in suppression of electromagnetic interference and reduction of radar signature. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献
