Epoxy–boron nitride nanotube (BNNT) composites were prepared using visible light through a radical‐induced cationic polymerization method activated by camphorquinone. The fully cured films showed an enhancement of glass transition temperature in the presence of the filler. Electrical characterization showed a slight dielectric constant decrease with BNNT content. Finally, thermal conductivity measured using nano‐flash analysis showed a linear increase in the thermal conductivity of the materials with increasing BNNT content in the photocurable formulations. © 2017 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A theoretical model of the interaction between a building and its occupants is developed based on field survey data; the role of the model in building performance simulation is illustrated. If free to do so, people adjust their clothing or available building controls (windows, blinds, doors, fans, and thermostats) with the aim of achieving or restoring comfort and reducing discomfort. Initially responses to thermal conditions are considered. Trigger temperatures are established where responses to warm or cold thermal discomfort may occur. These trigger-temperatures depend on (among other things) clothing (which may depend on season and social conditions) and air movement (e.g., fan setting). Trigger-temperatures differ from person to person and from time to time. If several controls are available people will use those that are most user-friendly, effective and free from undesirable consequences, and this is represented in the model by a constraint assigned to each control option. The concept of constraints is then expanded to capture non-thermal stimuli for control use (e.g., fresh-air). Using datasets from surveys in Europe and Pakistan, estimates are made of the parameters used in the model: the comfort temperature in relation to the prevailing outdoor temperature, the extent of inter-personal variation of trigger temperature, the effect of a fan on the comfort temperature, and the values of constraints that affect the use of windows and fans in the surveyed buildings. The incorporation of the new model, including constraints, into building simulation code is illustrated. Some limitations or unknowns in the current model are identified and possible approaches for future research to fill these gaps suggested. The application of the model in building performance analysis and building design is discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose an approach for ensemble construction based on the use of supervised projections, both linear and non-linear, to achieve both accuracy and diversity of individual classifiers. The proposed approach uses the philosophy of boosting, putting more effort on difficult instances, but instead of learning the classifier on a biased distribution of the training set, it uses misclassified instances to find a supervised projection that favors their correct classification. We show that supervised projection algorithms can be used for this task. We try several known supervised projections, both linear and non-linear, in order to test their ability in the present framework. Additionally, the method is further improved introducing concepts from oversampling for imbalance datasets. The introduced method counteracts the negative effect of a low number of instances for constructing the supervised projections.The method is compared with AdaBoost showing an improved performance on a large set of 45 problems from the UCI Machine Learning Repository. Also, the method shows better robustness in presence of noise with respect to AdaBoost.  相似文献

We present a confocal microscopy setup that is able to record magneto-optical hysteresis cycles separating the in-plane and out-of-plane magnetization components. This apparatus is based on a modified commercial microscope, where the light beam has been deviated from the cylindrical symmetry axis of the objective lenses by inserting a translating plate in the optical path. The instrument allows for the magneto-optical imaging with a lateral resolution of 600 nm at λ = 635 nm light wavelength.  相似文献

We present a novel approach for the direct synthesis of ultrathin Si nanowires (NWs) exhibiting room temperature light emission. The synthesis is based on a wet etching process assisted by a metal thin film. The thickness-dependent morphology of the metal layer produces uncovered nanometer-size regions which act as precursor sites for NW formation. The process is cheap, fast, maskless and compatible with Si technology. Very dense arrays of long (several micrometers) and small (diameter of 5-9?nm) NWs have been synthesized. An efficient room temperature luminescence, visible with the naked eye, is observed when NWs are optically excited, exhibiting a blue-shift with decreasing NW size in agreement with quantum confinement effects. A prototype device based on Si NWs has been fabricated showing a strong and stable electroluminescence at low voltages. The relevance and the perspectives of the reported results are discussed, opening the route toward novel applications of Si NWs.  相似文献

Being able to control the spin of magnetic molecules at the single-molecule level will make it possible to develop new spin-based nanotechnologies. Gate-field effects and electron and photon excitations have been used to achieve spin switching in molecules. Here, we show that atomic doping of molecules can be used to change the molecular spin. Furthermore, a scanning tunneling microscope was used to place or remove the atomic dopant on the molecule, allowing us to change the molecular spin in a controlled way. Bis(phthalocyaninato)yttrium (YPc(2)) molecules deposited on an Au (111) surface keep their spin-1/2 magnetic moment due to the small molecule-substrate interaction. However, when Cs atoms were carefully placed onto YPc(2) molecules, the spin of the molecule vanished as shown by our conductance measurements and corroborated by the results of density functional theory calculations.  相似文献

The first part of this two-part review focused on the fundamental and diagnostics aspects of laser-induced plasmas, only touching briefly upon concepts such as sensitivity and detection limits and largely omitting any discussion of the vast panorama of the practical applications of the technique. Clearly a true LIBS community has emerged, which promises to quicken the pace of LIBS developments, applications, and implementations. With this second part, a more applied flavor is taken, and its intended goal is summarizing the current state-of-the-art of analytical LIBS, providing a contemporary snapshot of LIBS applications, and highlighting new directions in laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, such as novel approaches, instrumental developments, and advanced use of chemometric tools. More specifically, we discuss instrumental and analytical approaches (e.g., double- and multi-pulse LIBS to improve the sensitivity), calibration-free approaches, hyphenated approaches in which techniques such as Raman and fluorescence are coupled with LIBS to increase sensitivity and information power, resonantly enhanced LIBS approaches, signal processing and optimization (e.g., signal-to-noise analysis), and finally applications. An attempt is made to provide an updated view of the role played by LIBS in the various fields, with emphasis on applications considered to be unique. We finally try to assess where LIBS is going as an analytical field, where in our opinion it should go, and what should still be done for consolidating the technique as a mature method of chemical analysis.  相似文献

The convergent correlator is widely used but it presents the drawback of the alignment requirements: fine focusing of the input scene Fourier transform on the filter plane, filter centering, scaling the scene Fourier transform to match the filter size, and azimuth matching of the filter with the input scene. We propose a set of tests to obtain a precise alignment of the convergent correlator. These methods are based on frequency filtering properties and they are applicable either for amplitude input or for phase-encoded input. The tests we present allow us to fulfill all the alignment requirements. The theory on which these tests are based is explained. The experimental results obtained during the alignment procedure are presented. We show some additional verifications of the correct alignment of the convergent correlator.  相似文献

Background

A new tool, the SIMARD-MD, has been proposed to help physicians identify cognitively impaired drivers who may be unfit to drive, but little empirical evidence is available to justify its use. We analyzed data from a cohort of older Canadian drivers who had undergone cognitive testing to: (1) correlate the SIMARD-MD with other tools that measure cognition (e.g., trail-making test), (2) identify how many drivers, using published cut-offs on the SIMARD-MD, would be recommended to lose their license, or be considered fit to drive, or be required to undergo further driving assessment, and (3) determine if the SIMARD-MD is biased by level of education as many cognitive tools are.

Methods

Cross-sectional data from 841 drivers aged 70 and over from seven Canadian sites who are enrolled in a 5-year cohort study were used for the analyses. Scores on the SIMARD-MD were correlated with scores on the other cognitive measures. The recommendations that would be made based on the SIMARD-MD scores were based on published cut-off values suggested by the authors of the tool. The impact of education status was examined using linear regression controlling for age.

Results

Correlations between the SIMARD-MD and other cognitive measures ranged from .15 to .86. Using published cut-off scores, 21 participants (2.5%) would have been recommended to relinquish their licenses, 428 (50.9%) would have been deemed fit to drive, and 392 (46.6%) would have been required to undergo further testing. We found a difference of 8.19 points (95% CI = 4.99, 11.40, p < .001) in favor of drivers with post-secondary education versus those without, representing over 11% of the mean score.

Discussion

The SIMARD-MD is unlikely to be valuable to clinicians because it lacks sufficient precision to provide clear recommendations about fitness-to-drive. Recommendations based solely on the SIMARD-MD may place many seniors at risk of losing their transportation mobility or incurring unnecessary stress and costs to prove they are safe to drive. Furthermore, the education bias may create an unwanted structural inequity. Hence, adoption of the SIMARD-MD as a tool to determine fitness-to-drive appears premature.  相似文献

Steroid actions on the vascular wall have been thought to depend on direct, genomic mechanisms being characterized by a considerable delay and on secondary events, including changes of coagulation, plasma lipids, and renal electrolyte and volume regulation. Recently, rapid effects of steroids on the vascular wall have been reported being clearly incompatible with the classical theory of genomic steroid action. As these effects occur in classical target tissues for genomic steroid action, and modulation of intracellular signaling has been shown to influence genomic steroid action, a two-step model of steroid action was developed integrating both genomic and nongenomic aspects and their possible interaction. This review summarizes recent studies on both types of direct, vascular steroid actions, the swift and the sluggish ones, and discusses the role of these actions in regulation of circulatory homeostasis and their potential therapeutic implications.  相似文献
