Non-linear transient stability analysis has been performed to study the sub-synchronous whirl stability of a rigid rotor supported on two symmetric hydrodynamic bearings with rough surfaces subjected to a unidirectional constant load. A Reynolds type equation for finite hydrodynamic bearings, with different models of rough surfaces, has been solved using the stochastic finite element method. The trajectories of the journal center have been obtained by solving the equations of motion of the journal center by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. Results show an increase in the stability with transverse roughness and a decrease in the stability with isotropic roughness. A small improvement in stability is obtained with longitudinal roughness.  相似文献

This mini-review contrasts the characteristics of traditional heterogeneous (solid) catalysts with those of homogeneous ones: the nature of the active sites in each case is very different, a fact well illustrated in ammonia synthesis. It is recalled that certain chemical transformations can be effected only with heterogeneous catalysts. It is also demonstrated that the scope for introducing multifunctional sites is greater with open-structured inorganic heterogeneous catalysts than with homogeneous ones: for example, TiIV ions distributed in a spatially isolated and accessible manner at the large areas of a nanoporous support smoothly convert cyclohexene to adipic acid (with H2O2) in a cascade of six consecutive reactions. A sharp distinction is drawn between nanocluster and nanoparticle “metal” catalysts, both electronic and geometric arguments being utilized to explain this difference. In the extreme case, a few (or single) metal atoms (supported on oxides) have been shown (see refs. Fu et al. Science 301:935, 2003 and Rim et al J Phys Chem C 113:10198, 2009) to be more important determinants of catalytic activity than nanoparticle metals such as Au and Pd. Recent advances in high-resolution electron microscopy is a key technique in this facet of catalysis. The merits of immobilizing single-site homogeneous catalysts and of creating atomically well-defined single-site heterogeneous ones on high-area solids are illustrated both from a practical viewpoint and also as a strategy for the design of new catalysts.  相似文献

In this examination, we researched the advantages of DNA fragmentation and metallic nanoparticles well‐appointed with biomolecules. A novel interpretation of DNA damage by Silver Nano‐Clusters (AgNCs) which were developed by the utilization of green synthesis method was demonstrated. The green synthesis of AgNCs was accomplished by utilizing the leaf extract of Salacia mulbarica (SM). The preparation of SM‐AgNCs was developed by estimating surface plasmon resonance peak around 449 nm by using a UV–Visible spectrophotometer. The effect of phytochemicals in SM leaf extract on the development of stable SM‐AgNCs was confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy. The size of the fabricated SM‐AgNCs was estimated by dynamic light scattering and zeta‐sizer analysis and the morphology of the SM‐AgNCs was examined by transmission electron microscopy. The presence of clusters of Ag particles in the prepared SM‐AgNCs was recognized by energy dispersion X‐ray analysis. The results show that saponins, phytosterols, and phenolic compounds present in plant extract may play a great part in developing the SM‐AgNCs in their specialized particles. The succeeded SM‐AgNCs shows incredible anti‐bacterial action towards Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis. During unidirectional micropyretic synthesis, a high-temperature reaction front propagates in a steady, oscillatory or unstable manner, depending on the reaction conditions chosen, thereby converting a reactant mix to products which display features of the wave propagation conditions. Bands are sometimes noted in the synthesized solid, often with a fixed periodicity along the propagation direction. This banded structure is thought to be the signature of an oscillating wave front. In previous articles by us and others, banded structures and other residual instabilities have been thought to arise from variations in the combustion front velocity caused by a mismatch between the heat diffusion rate and the heat production rate from the product synthesis (i.e. by exceeding the critical Lewis number). Such thermal oscillations have been modeled in the past by a single overall reaction formulation and a corresponding heat flow solution. Spiral fronts have also been noted. It is likely that the banded structures could also have originated from entropy-generating, dissipative, Belousov–Zhabotinsky (BZ) type reactions. The overall BZ reaction progresses in the form of a non-linear oscillator with several intermediary steady-state sub-reactions contained in a reaction volume. One possible sub-reaction sequence by which a BZ reaction may occur during micropyretic synthesis is discussed. Micropyretic synthesis can invoke both types of oscillations, i.e. the Lewis type and the BZ type. Two binary systems where the BZ oscillations are possible, namely the Ti–B and Ni–Al alloy systems, are examined. Spiral fronts are thought to contain both types of oscillations. A comparison with experiments shows that the micropyretic product chemistry is adequately predicted for the first time by a BZ formulation in both systems. Modeling methods for both types of oscillations are presented and integrated for the special case where an oscillation in the liquid metal concentration is noted. Forward reaction rate constants are calculated for the sub-reactions.  相似文献

Of late, UV-curable products are gaining attention in the wood industry because of the effectiveness and efficiency of this method. UV-curable surface coatings are widely used because of their excellent properties and because they are environmentally friendly products. In this study, immobilized Candida antarctica lipase B was used to catalyze formation of liquid wax esters, such as adipate esters, via a solvent-free process. The adipate esters formed were then used as UV-curable reactants in the wood coating formulations, consisting of epoxy acrylate, additives, and a photoinitiator. The performance of the products was evaluated by coating them onto glass tiles (using gel content, hardness, and scratch resistance tests) and wood panels (using adhesion, impact, and heat resistance tests). The coated film from this formulation performed well during the evaluation tests. The gel content exhibited more than 90% polymerization, while the pendulum hardness gave a value of 55.25%. Both analyses were significant in determining the effect of irradiation cycles. A scratch test was also carried out to verify the resistance of the coating. The maximum weight load which can be resisted by the wax esters formulation is 4.5 N.  相似文献

Tunneled dialysis catheter–associated right atrial thrombus (RAT) is a rarely reported complication. We reviewed hospital records of 10 patients from a teaching hospital dialysis unit, in whom RAT was diagnosed by trans‐esophageal echocardiography (TEE). Patients were treated with chronic anticoagulation (heparin followed by warfarin) and followed over time. The group included 7 women; 6 patients were African American, 3 were Caucasian, and 1 was Hispanic. The average age was 52.1 ± 15.3 years. The most common presenting symptom was poor catheter flow on hemodialysis followed by fever and chills. On average, the patients had had 3.4 ± 2.7 catheter insertions before diagnosis of RAT, and the tunneled dialysis catheter (TC) had been in place for a mean of 91 ± 89.4 days when the thrombi were diagnosed. Trans‐thoracic echocardiography (2‐D echo) was done in 4 patients, but it identified RAT in only 1 patient. The catheter tip was at the junction of the superior vena cava and right atrium (SVC/RA) in most patients. Thrombolysis (unsuccessful) was attempted with urokinase in 3 patients, complicated in 2 patients by hemorrhage. After anticoagulation, 90% of the RAT resolved on repeated TEE. One patient had persistent RAT for 23 weeks and underwent surgical thrombolysis, but died postoperatively. We conclude that RAT is a frequently missed complication of a TC. Positioning the tip of the TC at the SVC/RA junction may not prevent RAT. Trans‐esophageal echocardiography is a more sensitive diagnostic tool than 2‐D echo and should be obtained early. Most patients can be successfully treated with anticoagulation alone. Thrombolytic therapy and surgical thrombolysis have high morbidity and mortality.  相似文献

This paper presents a study of responsivity of InAs0·3Sb0·7 infrared detector. Thin films of InAs0·3Sb0·7 semiconducting compound were prepared by vacuum evaporation on glass and mica substrates held at 473° K under a pressure of 10−6 torr with deposition rate of 20 A°/sec. The isothermal annealing process was employed to improve the quality of the films. The responsivity variation with blackbody temperature (333° K to 673° K), detector temperature (80° K to 303° K) and frequency (10 Hz to 10 kHz) was measured. The experimental set-up and the results are presented and discussed.  相似文献

 The steady, two-dimensional, incompressible MHD flow past a circular cylinder with an applied magnetic field parallel to the main flow is studied using the finite difference method. The magnetic Reynolds number is assumed to be small. Results are presented up to the Reynolds number R=500 and interaction parameter N=1.3. As N increases suppression of the separation is observed. Drag coefficient is decreasing for the small values of N and then increasing as N increases. It is found that a smaller value of far field distance is required as N increases. Alloy 617 (nickel based austenitic alloy) is a candidate structural material for next generation high temperature nuclear reactor. The secondary phases present in the Alloy 617 has been identified as TiN and M23C6 by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX). Surface potentials of these phases have been evaluated by Scanning Kelvin Probe Force Microscope (SKPFM). SKPFM investigation showed higher surface potential of the secondary phases than that of the austenite matrix. The surface potential of the TiN was nobler than that of M23C6 indicating that these precipitates could act as cathodic sites during oxidation reaction. Difference in the local chemistry of these phases results in variation of the chemical potentials, which in turn could lead to enhanced oxidation at localized areas in the vicinity of the secondary phase precipitates that act as cathodic sites.  相似文献

The present study reports a simple and low cost synthesis of zero‐valent silver nanoparticles (ZVSNPs) from silver nitrate using the leaf extract of Spondias dulcis. The ZVSNPs showed a unique peak at 420 nm in UV–vis spectrum. The SEM image portrayed cuboidal shaped particles. The EDX spectrum designated the elemental silver peak at 3 keV. In XRD, a sharp peak at 32.47° denoted the existence of (1 0 1) lattice plane and the average crystallite size was calculated as 48.61 nm. The lattice parameter was determined as 0.39 nm. The FTIR spectra of the leaf extract and ZVSNPs showed shifts in the specific functional group bands which ascertained the involvement of phytoconstituents in the formation and capping of nanoparticles. The average hydrodynamic size was measured as 59.66 nm by DLS method. A low PDI, 0.187 witnessed the monodispersity. A negative zeta potential value of −15.7 mV indicated the negative surface charges of the nanoparticles. The bactericidal action of ZVSNPs was demonstrated against two pathogens S.typhimurium and E.coli during which a dosage dependent zone of inhibition results was observed.
