There has been a growing interest in plant proteins due to their beneficial health effects, low cost and variety of applications in food industries. The low solubility of lentil proteins (LPs) is one of the significant factors that limit their use in food applications. Quinoa proteins (QPs), which have high water solubility, were combined with LPs at pH 12 to generate LP-QP complexes to generate pH-based soluble protein compounds. The LP-QP complexes demonstrated a large surface charge with an increase solubilisation of the protein complexes by more than 85%, together with resistance to protein aggregation. The combination of LPs to QPs led to a significant increase (P < 0.05) in unique tertiary and secondary protein structures as determined by the protein–protein interaction (PPI) technique involving pH recycling. Interactions between LPs and QPs affected the surface morphology of the protein complexes formed. Electrostatic interactions, hydrophobic forces and hydrogen bonding were indicated to play key roles in the PPIs. The capacity of pH cycling to illustrate the above protein interactions shows that this is a robust approach for assessing the emulsion and foaming properties of food proteins. 相似文献

This study compares two SOFC/GT (solid oxide fuel cell with gas turbine) hybrid systems to that of two standalone SOFC systems via eco-technoeconomic analyses that account for long-term degradation effects. Four cases were examined: 1) standalone SOFC plant without a steam bottoming cycle; 2) standalone SOFC plant with a steam bottoming cycle; 3) SOFC/GT hybrid plant without a steam bottoming cycle; and 4) SOFC/GT with a steam bottoming cycle. This study employed a real-time 1D SOFC model with an empirical degradation calculation integrated with steady-state balance-of-plant models. Simulations used Matlab Simulink R2017a, Aspen Plus V10, and Python 3.7.4 with a pseudo steady-state approach. The results showed that, with some trade-offs, the SOFC/GT hybrid plant with the steam bottoming cycle is the best option, with an overall efficiency of 44.6% LHV, an LCOE (levelized cost of electricity) of $US 77/MWh, and a CCA (cost of CO2 avoided) of -$US 49.3/tonneCO2e. The sensitivity analysis also indicated that SOFC/GT hybrid plants were less sensitive to SOFC price compared to standalone SOFC plants. The sensitivity analysis indicated that using a larger gas turbine and replacing the SOFC stack less frequently was the better design choice for the SOFC/GT hybrid plant. 相似文献

Polypyrrole (PPy) and polypyrrole-carboxylic functionalized multi wall carbon nanotube composites (PPy/f-MWCNT) were synthesized by in situ chemical oxidative polymerization of pyrrole on the carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The structure of the resulting complex nanotubes was characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The effects of f-MWCNT concentration on the electrical properties of the resulting composites were studied at temperatures between 100 K and 300 K. The Hall mobility and Hall coefficient of PPy and PPy/f-MWCNT composite samples with different concentrations of f-MWCNT were measured using the van der Pauw technique. The mobility decreased slightly with increasing temperature, while the conductivity was dominated by the gradually increasing carrier density. 相似文献

This paper describes the synthesis, functionalization, and characterization of silica gels as mercury adsorbents. The synthesis was carried out according to the modified Stöber method using tetraethyl orthosilicate [TEOS], 3-mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane [MPTMS] and bis(triethoxysilylpropyl) tetrasulfide [BTEPST] as precursors. The functionalization was carried out via co-condensation and impregnation methods using MPTMS, BTESPT, elemental sulfur [ES], and carbon disulfide [CS2] as sulfur ligands. The choice of the sulfur ligands as precursors and functionalization agents was due to the existence of sulfur active groups in their molecular structures which were expected to have high affinity toward Hg(II) ions. The synthesized adsorbents were characterized by using scanning electron microscope, fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer, nitrogen adsorption/desorption, and energy dispersive X-ray diffractometer. The batch Hg(II) adsorption experiments were employed to evaluate the Hg(II) adsorption performances of the synthesized adsorbents under different pH values. The results revealed that the highest Hg(II) adsorption capacity was obtained for the SG-MPTMS(10) which was 47.83 mg/g at pH 8.5. In general, the existence of sulfur functional groups, especially MPTMS in the silica matrices, gave a significant enhancement of Hg(II) adsorption capacity and the sulfur functionalization via co-condensation method, which is potential as a superior approach in the mercury adsorbent synthesis. 相似文献

The syntheses of nanosized carbonated hydroxyapatite(CHA) were performed by comparing dropwise and direct pouring of acetone solution of Ca(N03)2-4H20 into mixture of(NH4)2HP04 and NH4HCO3 at room temperature controlled at pH 11.Direct pouring method was later applied to study the increment of carbonate content in syntheses.The as-synthesized powders were characterized by various characterization techniques.The crystallographic results of the produced powders were obtained from X-ray diffraction analysis,whilst the carbonate content in the produced powders was determined by the CHNS/O elemental analyzer.Fourier transform infrared analysis confirmed that the CHA powders formed were B-type.Field emission scanning electron microscopy revealed that the powders were highly agglomerated in nanosized range and hence energy filtered transmission electron microscopy was employed to show elongated particles which decreased with increasing carbonate content. 相似文献

Chryseobacterium meningosepticum is an uncommon human pathogen, which is an inhabitant of soil and water. It should be included in the list of suspected nosocomial infections, especially in patients with immunocompromised status. C. meningosepticum infections are not common but are clinically important because the organism is naturally resistant to multiple antibiotics. We report a case where the bacterium was isolated from the pleural fluid from a chronic kidney disease patient on hemodialysis, who developed pneumonia with complicated parapneumonic effusion. This paper reports the effect of using a mixed iodide salt system with two dissimilar cations to enhance the efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells made with polyvinylidenefluoride (PVdF) based gel electrolyte. Instead of a single iodide salt, a mixture of potassium iodide (KI) with a small K+ cation and tetrapropylammonium iodide (Pr4NI) with a bulky Pr4N+ cation were used to provide the required iodide ion conductivity. Solar cells of configuration FTO/TiO2/Dye/electrolyte/Pt/FTO were fabricated using a mesoporous TiO2 electrode sensitized with a Ruthenium dye (N719). With identical electrolyte compositions, the cells with KI and Pr4NI alone gave efficiencies of 2.37% and 2.90% respectively. The cell with the mixed iodide system, KI:Pr4NI = 16.6:83.4 (% weight ratio), however, showed an enhanced efficiency of 3.92% with a short circuit current density of 9.16 mA cm−2, open circuit voltage of 674.4 mV and a fill factor of 63.4%. 相似文献

Sago wastewater (SWW) causes pollution to the environment due to its high organic content. Annually, about 2.5 million tons of SWW is produced in Malaysia. In this study, the potential of SWW as a substrate for biohydrogen production by Enterobacter aerogenes (E. aerogenes) was evaluated. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was employed to find the optimum conditions. From preliminary optimization, it was found that the most significant factors were yeast extract, temperature, and inoculum size. According to Face Centered Central Composite Design (FCCCD), the maximum hydrogen concentration and yield were 630.67 μmol/L and 7.42 mmol H2/mol glucose, respectively, which is obtained from the sample supplemented with 4.8 g/L yeast extract concentration, 5% inoculum, and incubated at the temperature of 31 °C. Cumulative hydrogen production curve fitted by the modified Gompertz equation suggested that Hmax, Rmax, and λ from this study were 15.10 mL, 2.18 mL/h, and 9.84 h, respectively. 相似文献
