This article discusses the value and purpose of drawing in its relationship to the design process and understanding architecture. The authors base much of their discussion on their own experiences in teaching both drawing and architectural design to undergraduates. These experiences however are informed and supported both by architectural history and theory and theories of perception and art. The authors discuss the importance of visual notes to architects of the past, note both the decline of the usage of visual notes in the twentieth century as well as their continued use by important architects of our time. This article stresses the analytical and critical value of such drawing as opposed to its pictorial purposes.  相似文献

A kinetics of the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of copper using novel unfluorinated precursor, copper(I)(N(1(dimethylvinylsiloxy)-1-methylethano)-2-imino-4-pentanoate), namely Cu-KI5, was studied. Since its great thermal stability, Cu-KI5 allowed high source temperature to provide high vapor pressure, for example Cu-KI5 has a vapor pressure of 0.2-2.2 Torr at the temperature range of 100-140 °C. Furthermore, copper could be deposited by direct reduction from Cu-KI5 instead of disproportionation. By using formic acid (HCOOH) as a reducing agent, copper films were deposited on ruthenium substrate at temperature range of 150-350 °C. The activation energy was 48.9 kJ/mol in surface reaction limited region (<210 °C) and 1.9 kJ/mol in diffusion limited region (>210 °C) at the total pressure of 5 Torr. Secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) analysis showed that CVD copper film of high purity (>99.99%) was deposited at 250 °C. The as-deposited copper films grown at 150-300 °C exhibited strong 〈111〉 preferred orientation. The minimum resistivity of the copper film was 1.77 μΩ cm obtained at the deposition temperature of 250 °C. In the surface reaction limited region, kinetic data extracted from experiments enabled 2-D computational simulation to predict copper deposition into trench structures. Simulation results showed excellent step coverage, which was larger than 90% for aspect ratio of 10:1. Cu-KI5 is a promising Cu-CVD precursor for the fabrication of ultra large scale integration (ULSI) or through silicon via (TSV) copper interconnects.  相似文献

A number of procedures have been investigated for the calibration of a size-exclusion chromatography (s.e.c.) column in the determination of molecular mass (MM) distributions of coal derivatives. The behaviour of narrow fractions of coal extracts in the MM range 200–3000 was compared with a variety of the more generally available calibration standards. Calibration with preparative s.e.c. subfractions of materials similar to those under study has been recommended. Polystyrene standards are satisfactory, however, for MM < 1000, but above this range other polymer standards should be sought. Universal and molar volume calibration do not apply to coal-derived materials.  相似文献

This new equipment standard replaces one published in 1948. Significant improvements in the new equipment include a larger test chamber more suitable for testing line voltage electric heat thermostats and a chamber that operates in normal room ambient rather than 40°F. The equipment consists of an insulated test chamber in which air flow across a thermostat test wall is maintained at 30 ft/min. Adjacent to the chamber is an instrument panel which contains the appropriate control systems. These controls record, program, and provide electrical loads for testing specified thermostat characteristics. During performance testing, the test chamber air temperature is automatically increased or decreased at preselected rates upon demand of the test thermostat. Thermostat characteristics observed during testing are 1) operating differential? difference in temperature between cut-in and cut-out of the thermostat, 2) cycle rate?number of full cycles per hour, and 3) effective operating droop?difference in cut-in points when operating at 20 and 80 percent duty cycle. The results of the new equipment provide a uniform method of testing room thermostats and therefore consistent means for comparing one thermostat performance to another under many different conditions.  相似文献

Large population studies show that polyunsaturated fatty acids are important for human health, but determining relationships between the health benefits and the fatty acid content has been hampered by the unavailability of labor-effective high-throughput technologies. An automated high throughput fatty acid analysis was developed from a previous procedure based on direct transesterification including the automation of chemical procedures, data acquisition and automatic data processing. The method was validated and applied to umbilical cord serum samples in an epidemiological study. The method was linear in the range of 1–600 μg/mL serum with r 2 ≥0.99. The within-run CV was <5.4% for 23 fatty acids and a range of recoveries over three concentrations were 76–119% in a low-lipid matrix with the exception of 14:0. The fatty acid concentration as measured by the robotic method for human plasma was in good agreement with the Lepage & Roy method. The fatty acid profile in umbilical cord serum from American subjects (n = 287) showed an average of 38.0, 24.9, 32.0 and 4.6% of total fatty acids for saturates, monounsaturates, n-6 and n-3 polyunsaturates, respectively. This is the first report of a complete, validated, cost-effective, automated, high throughput fatty acid measurement method along with application to a population-based study. Automated fatty acid analysis coupled with automated data processing greatly facilitates the high throughput, 72 samples transesterified in 6 h, required for large population-based studies.  相似文献

Industrial gas separation membranes have selective dense layers with thicknesses around 100 nm. It has long been assumed that these thin layers have the same properties as thick (bulk) films. However, recent research has shown that thin films with such thickness experience accelerated physical aging relative to bulk films and, thus, their permeation properties can differ significantly from the bulk. Thin films made from Extem® XH 1015, a new commercial polyetherimide, have been investigated by monitoring their gas permeability. The permeability of the thin films is originally greater than the thick films but eventually decreases well below the permeability of the thick film. The CO2 plasticization of Extem thin films is explored using a series of exposure protocols that indicate CO2 plasticization is a function of film thickness, aging time, exposure time, pressure and prior history.  相似文献

Copolymers of acrylonitrile with a furfuryl alcohol resin have been prepared by a free radical reaction, and have been characterized by n.m.r. and i.r. spectroscopy. Their t.g.a. has been performed in air and in a nitrogen atmosphere, to permit the recognition of a number of stages in the weight loss process. D.s.c., also in air and in nitrogen, has identified a number of exothermic and one endothermic process in the copolymers. Solid state cross-polarization/magic angle spinning 13C n.m.r. spectroscopy and i.r. spectroscopy has been used to obtain some insight into the chemistry of the various chemical changes, which in air are completed by combustion and in nitrogen leave a carbon.  相似文献

The effect of dietary n−3 FA deficiency on bone tissue FA composition was evaluated in growing rats. Two mixtures combining hydrogenated coconut oil with safflower oil served as the n−3-deficient dietary treatments and provided two levels of linoleic acid (LA). The n−3 treatments were formulated with added α-linolenic acid (LNA) from flaxseed oil (diet LNA) or LNA plus DHA, and both were balanced for LA. This study showed that bone is sensitive to changes in dietary n−3 FA and that DHA is more effective than LNA in maintaining DHA levels in these tissues.  相似文献
