To be successful, correlation-based, phase-aberration correction requires a high correlation among backscattered signals. For harmonic imaging, the spatial coherence of backscatter for the second harmonic component is different than the spatial coherence of backscatter for the fundamental component. The purpose of this work was to determine the effect of changing the transmit apodization on the spatial coherence of backscatter for the nonlinearly generated second harmonic. Our approach was to determine the effective apodizations for the fundamental and second harmonic using both experimental measurements and simulations. Two-dimensional measurements of the transverse cross sections of the finite-amplitude ultrasonic fields generated by rectangular and circular apertures were acquired with a hydrophone. Three different one-dimensional transmit apodization functions were investigated: uniform, Riesz, and trapezoidal. An effective apodization was obtained for each transmit apodization by backpropagating the values measured from within the transmit focal zone using a linear angular spectrum approach. Predictions of the spatial coherence of backscatter were obtained using the pulse-echo Van Cittert-Zernike theorem. In all cases the effective apodization at 2f was narrower than the transmit apodization. We demonstrate that certain transmit apodizations result in a greater spatial coherence of backscatter at the second harmonic than at the fundamental. 相似文献

Systems biology is a reemerging paradigm which, among other things, focuses on mathematical modeling and simulation of biochemical reaction networks in intracellular processes. For most simulation tools and publications, they are usually characterized by either preferring stochastic simulation or rate equation models. The use of stochastic simulation is occasionally accompanied with arguments against rate equations. Motivated by these arguments, we discuss in this paper the relationship between these two forms of representation. Toward this end, we provide a novel compact derivation for the stochastic rate constant that forms the basis of the popular Gillespie algorithm. Comparing the mathematical basis of the two popular conceptual frameworks of generalized mass action models and the chemical master equation, we argue that some of the arguments that have been put forward are ignoring subtle differences and similarities that are important for answering the question in which conceptual framework one should investigate intracellular dynamics. 相似文献

International surveys of occupational injuries among seafarers have so far been missing. It was the aim to test the method of self-report of injuries and length of time at risk during the latest duty period and second to study the injury incidence rate among seafarers by use of the method. A pilot study was conducted (n = 1068) in Finland, Denmark, the Philippines, Croatia and Spain using self-completed questionnaires with questions about the person, the ship, the duration of latest duty period and injuries. The duration of the self-reporting duty period was in the Danish part compared with information from the crew register of the Maritime Authority. For seafarers from merchant ships in the Danish sub-study there was acceptable correspondence between the information from the seafarers and the Maritime Authority, but not when referring to ferries and non-specified types of ship. Unadjusted and adjusted injury incidence rates-ratios (IRRs) based on number of injuries per number of work hours were calculated. Adjusted IRRs for ordinary seamen/officers: IRR = 2.43 (95% CI: 1.25-4.72); for age < 35/35+ years: IRR = 1.97 (1.02-3.81); length of tour: 117 days or longer compared with < 117 days: IRR = 0.46 (95% CI: 0.22-0.95); 57-70 working hours per week compared with < 57 h: IRR = 1.26 (0.48-3.29), 71+h compared with < 57 h: IRR = 2.12 (0.84-5.36). Non-significant IRRs >1.00 were found for ships under 10,000 GT compared with larger ships and for own flagged ships compared with ships under flag of convenience. In conclusion, more than 70 h of work per week was related to a higher rate of injuries for seafarers on merchant ships, but the result was not statistically significant. Self-report of the duration of the latest tour of duty is useful for seafarers from merchant ships with short-term employments, but not for ferries and other, non-specified types of ship with other or permanent employment. 相似文献

MIPAS-B2 is a balloon-borne limb-emission sounder for atmospheric research. The heart of the instrument is a Fourier spectrometer that covers the mid-infrared spectral range (4-14 microns) and operates at cryogenic temperatures. Essential for this application is the sophisticated line-of-sight stabilization system, which is based on an inertial navigation system and is supplemented with an additional star reference system. The major scientific benefit of the instrument is the simultaneous detection of complete trace gas families in the stratosphere without restrictions concerning the time of day and viewing directions. Experiments have been carried out to determine the effect of centrifugal force on the rate of condensation of vapors. Methanol and isopropanol vapors were condensed on a vertical rotating finned tube and it was found that the data could be correlated by the equation: Condensation film heat transfer coefficients in excess of 5,700 W/(m2 °K) and 4,200 W/(m2 °K) were obtained for methanol and isopropanol respectively at a tube rotational speed of 1,000 rpm. 相似文献

The historical background and current use of getter sputtering are reviewed and it is shown that the process often occured in early apparatus because of fortuitous layout of the chamber components. Getter systems are classified into “static” and “ynamic” according to the gas flow and pumping conditions. In conclusion mass spectra are given of the gas atmospheres in an r.f. getter sputtering plant when depositing tantalum. It is shown that gettering reduces the gaseous impurities. However, provision of the extra getter target requires use of increased power input. Otherwise the deposition rate can fall (from an overall reduction in ion current density) which increases in the desired coating the proportion of sorbed impurity from gas released in the substrate coating vessel. 相似文献

Forest fires are suggested as a potential and significant source of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), even though no studies to date provide sufficient evidence to confirm forest fires as a source of PCDD/Fs. Recent investigations in Queensland, Australia have identified a widespread contamination of PCDDs (in particular OCDD) in soils and sediments in the coastal region from an unknown source of PCDD/Fs. Queensland is predominately rural; it has few known anthropogenic sources of PCDD/Fs, whereas forest fires are a frequent occurrence. This study was conducted to assess forest fires as a potential source of the unknown PCDD/F contamination in Queensland. A combustion experiment was designed to assess the overall mass of PCDD/Fs before and after a simulated forest fire. The results from this study did not identify an increase in sigmaPCDD/Fs or OCDD after the combustion process. However, specific non-2,3,7,8 substituted lower chlorinated PCDD/Fs were elevated after the combustion process, suggesting formation from a precursor. The results from this study indicate that forest fires are unlikely to be the source of the unknown PCDD contamination in Queensland, rather they are a key mechanism for the redistribution of PCDD/Fs from existing sources and precursors. 相似文献

This paper describes the purification and characterization of microviridin J, a newly discovered metabolite of Microcystis that causes a lethal molting disruption in Daphnia spp., upon ingestion of living cyanobacterial cells. Microviridin J consists of an acetylated chain of 13 amino acids arranged in three rings and two side chains. Unlike other known isoforms of microviridin, microviridin J contains arginine that imparts a unique solution conformation characterized by proximal hydrophobic interactions between Arg and other regions of the molecule. This eventually results in the formation and stabilization of an additional ring system. Microviridin J potently inhibits porcine trypsin, bovine chymotrypsin, and daphnid trypsin-like proteases. The activity against trypsin is most likely due to Arg and its distinctive conformational interactions. Overall, the data presented for microviridin J emphasize once again the ability of cyanobacteria to produce numerous and potent environmental toxins. 相似文献
