Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are promising alternatives for the estimation of suspended sediment concentration (SSC), but they are dependent on the availability data. This study investigates the use of an ANN model for forecasting SSC using turbidity and water level. It is used an original method, idealized to investigate the minimum complexity of the ANN that does not present, in relation to more complex networks, loss of efficiency when applied to other samples, and to perform its training avoiding the overfitting even when data availability is insufficient to use the cross-validation technique. The use of a validation procedure by resampling, the control of overfitting through a previously researched condition of training completion, as well as training repetitions to provide robustness are important aspects of the method. Turbidity and water level data, related to 59 SSC values, collected between June 2013 and October 2015, were used. The development of the proposed ANN was preceded by the training of an ANN, without the use of the new resources, which clearly showed the overfitting occurrence when resources were not used to avoid it, with Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NS) equals to 0.995 in the training and NS = 0.788 in the verification. The proposed method generated efficient models (NS = 0.953 for verification), with well distributed errors and with great capacity of generalization for future applications. The final obtained model enabled the SSC calculation, from water level and turbidity data, even when few samples were available for the training and verification procedures. 相似文献

Complaints from the Domingos Martins population about sewage odours in the city made the district attorney order an impact assessment of the odours emitted by the city wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). This study comprised various techniques, models and population surveys. In 2007, an odour emission model proved that the main hydrogen sulphide emitter was the aeration tank of the WWTP (13.5 g h(-1)) and such emissions, according to CALPUFF model, should be perceived in the whole Domingos Martins city centre area. In this area, 58% of those interviewed were annoyed by the WWTP odours. However, in 2009, the odour monitoring panel recorded few odour occurrences. A second population survey showed that hereafter only 20% of those interviewed were annoyed by the WWTP emissions. Odour emission and dispersion models run with 2010 data proved a drastic reduction of the WWTP aeration tank emissions and consequently the city centre was not bothered by WWTP emissions anymore. The odour emission reduction was due to the modification of the WWTP aeration tank system. Despite the odour emission reduction, houses located southeast of the WWTP were still annoyed by sewage odours. However, in this part of the town, other sources of sewage odours have been found. 相似文献

We investigated the effects of hydroquinone monomethyl ether concentration and film thickness upon the thermal polymerization of acrylic acid on low-density polyethylene. The thermal polymerization of acrylic acid on low-density polyethylene depended on the concentration of hydroquinone monomethyl ether inhibitor. It was a free-radical reaction with initiation on the film surface and then proceeding to the bulk matrix. The process was not controlled by monomer diffusion for the range of film thickness of 90–200 μm. It became a diffusion-controlled process at higher film thicknesses ( > 200 μm). The survival of Lactobacillus delbrueckii UFV H2b20 in three ice cream formulations (low fat, fat free and high fat) was evaluated after the processing and storage at ?16 °C. The survival of L. delbrueckii UFV H2b20 was not significantly affected (P > 0.05) in three ice cream formulations after processing. The same result was observed during storage for 40 days at ?16 °C. Cells of L. delbrueckii UFV H2b20 incorporated in three ice cream formulation survived when exposed to acid stress and bile salts. The results demonstrate that L. delbrueckii UFV H2b20 has potential for being used in ice cream and capacity to resist acid stress and to grow in the presence of bile salts. This demonstrates that reduction of fat in ice cream does not compromise the viability of L. delbrueckii UFV H2B20. 相似文献

Both open pit mine and smelter projects can have significant impacts on a variety of environmental resources. Among these, air quality of the surroundings is a key issue. Additionally, the environmental assessment of projects demands integrated approach taking in account all pollution sources. Therefore, specific focus has been put on the methodology for assessing impacts on air quality. This paper proposes an integrated index of environmental impact aiming to quantify the air quality impact of industrial operations around an urban area, in case of scarcity of in situ acquired data. This proposed pollution index is demonstrated by a case study conducted in the municipality of Congonhas, Brazil, in which contributions of five open pit mines and two smelters were studied. To achieve the pollution index, the wind rose and distances from the centroids of effective areas to the urban nucleus itself were considered, taking into account the wind projection areas from windward impacting sources on the leeward impacted urban site. The proposed index also includes the squared wind speed (proportional to the kinetic energy transferred in uplifting dust from ground surface). The method proposed is considered suitable for impact assignment for each one of the air pollution sources in the neighborhood of studied area. System reliability analysis and optimization are important to efficiently utilize available resources and to develop an optimal system design architecture. System reliability optimization has been solved by using optimization techniques including meta-heuristics. Meanwhile, the development of meta-heuristics has been an active research field of the reliability optimization wherein the redundancy, the component reliability, or both are to be determined. In recent years, a broad class of stochastic meta-heuristics, such as simulated annealing, genetic algorithm, tabu search, ant colony, and particle swarm optimization paradigms, has been developed for reliability-redundancy optimization of systems. Recently, a new kind of evolutionary algorithm called Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (ICA) was proposed. The ICA is based on imperialistic competition where the populations are represented by countries, which are classified as imperialists or colonies. However, the trade-off between the exploration (i.e. the global search) and the exploitation (i.e. the local search) of the search space is critical to the success of the classical ICA approach. An improvement in the ICA by implementing an attraction and repulsion concept during the search for better solutions, the AR-ICA approach, is proposed in this paper. Simulations results demonstrates the AR-ICA is an efficient optimization technique, since it obtained promising solutions for the reliability redundancy allocation problem when compared with the previously best-known results of four different benchmarks for the reliability-redundancy allocation problem presented in the literature. 相似文献

In this paper, a servomechanism problem is considered in which a stabilizing controller is to be chosen as the solution of a H 2-optimization problem with asymptotic tracking and (exact or approximate) decoupling constraints. The cost functional is made-up of terms which penalize the tracking error and control effort associated with a class of persistent reference signals. To solve the optimization problem with asymptotic tracking and exact decoupling constraints, an explicit parametrization is presented of all stabilizing controllers which satisfy these constraints. On the basis of this parametrization the problem in question is recast as an unconstrained H 2 problem and conditions on problem data are then stated under which there exists a unique solution. To handle the case of asymptotic tracking and approximate decoupling constraints, a parametrization of all stabilizing controllers which achieve asymptotic tracking is used to eliminate the tracking constraint; this leads to an H 2 optimization problem with several non-definite H 2 constraints. Approximate solutions to such a problem are obtained by means of a sequence of H 2 problems with a single non-definite H 2 constraint which, in turn, are solved by line search and spectral factorization. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the effect of the exact and approximate decoupling constraints on the attained optimal cost value and time responses. 相似文献
