Differential operators are essential in many image processing applications. Previous work has shown how to compute derivatives more accurately by examining the image locally, and by applying a difference operator which is optimal for each pixel neighborhood. The proposed technique avoids the explicit computation of fitting functions, and replaces the function fitting process by a function classification process using a filter bank of feature detection templates. Both the feature detectors and the optimal difference operators have a specific shape and an associated cost, defined by a rigid mathematical structure, which can be described by Gröbner bases. This paper introduces a cost criterion to select the operator of the best approximating function class and the most appropriate template size so that the difference operator can be locally adapted to the digitized function. We describe how to obtain discrete approximates for commonly used differential operators, and illustrate how image processing applications can benefit from the adaptive selection procedure for the operators by means of two example applications: tangent computation for digitized object boundaries and the Laplacian of Gaussian edge detector.  相似文献

The statistical properties of the likelihood ratio test statistic (LRTS) for mixture-of-expert models are addressed in this paper. This question is essential when estimating the number of experts in the model. Our purpose is to extend the existing results for simple mixture models (Liu and Shao, 2003 [8]) and mixtures of multilayer perceptrons (Olteanu and Rynkiewicz, 2008 [9]). In this paper we first study a simple example which embodies all the difficulties arising in such models. We find that in the most general case the LRTS diverges but, with additional assumptions, the behavior of such models can be totally explicated.  相似文献

This paper demonstrates and systematically characterizes the enrichment of biomolecular compounds using aptamer-functionalized surfaces within a microfluidic device. The device consists of a microchamber packed with aptamer-functionalized microbeads and integrated with a microheater and temperature sensor to enable thermally controlled binding and release of biomolecules by the aptamer. We first present an equilibrium binding-based analytical model to understand the enrichment process. The characteristics of the aptamer-analyte binding and enrichment are then experimentally studied, using adenosine monophosphate (AMP) and a specific RNA aptamer as a model system. The temporal process of AMP binding to the aptamer is found to be primarily determined by the aptamer-AMP binding kinetics. The temporal process of aptamer-AMP dissociation at varying temperatures is also obtained and observed to occur relatively rapidly (<2 s). The specificity of the enrichment is next confirmed by performing selective enrichment of AMP from a sample containing biomolecular impurities. Finally, we investigate the enrichment of AMP by either discrete or continuous introduction of a dilute sample into the microchamber, demonstrating enrichment factors ranging from 566 to 686×, which agree with predictions of the analytical model.  相似文献

Analysis of high dimensional data in modern applications, such as neuroscience, text mining, spectral analysis, chemometrices naturally requires tensor decomposition methods. The Tucker decompositions allow us to extract hidden factors (component matrices) with different dimension in each mode, and investigate interactions among various modalities. The alternating least squares (ALS) algorithms have been confirmed effective and efficient in most of tensor decompositions, especially Tucker with orthogonality constraints. However, for nonnegative Tucker decomposition (NTD), standard ALS algorithms suffer from unstable convergence properties, demand high computational cost for large scale problems due to matrix inverse, and often return suboptimal solutions. Moreover they are quite sensitive with respect to noise, and can be relatively slow in the special case when data are nearly collinear. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for nonnegative Tucker decomposition based on constrained minimization of a set of local cost functions and hierarchical alternating least squares (HALS). The developed NTD-HALS algorithm sequentially updates components, hence avoids matrix inverse, and is suitable for large-scale problems. The proposed algorithm is also regularized with additional constraint terms such as sparseness, orthogonality, smoothness, and especially discriminant. Extensive experiments confirm the validity and higher performance of the developed algorithm in comparison with other existing algorithms.  相似文献

Freeze‐dried and milled lignocellulose nanofibrils (LCNF) were used to reinforce polypropylene (PP) nanocomposites. The LCNF, containing up to 9% lignin, was obtained from residual Empty Palm Fruit Bunch (EPFB) fibers. Soy protein isolate (SPI) and hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) were tested as coupling agents as well as maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (MAPP), which was used as a reference. A good level of dispersion of LCNF in the PP matrix while mechanical testing and thermal analyses indicated an improvement of the thermo‐mechanical behavior of the nanocomposites was revealed upon loading of the lignin‐containing nanofibrils. The tensile modulus of PP was increased by 15% upon the addition of 1% LCNF with SPI as a compatibilizer. Likewise, the thermal stability of the composites was most markedly enhanced. Overall, LCNF and SPI, two important bioresources, are introduced here for the development of novel and cost‐effective PP‐based composites. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. In this paper, the selective illumination approach is adopted to separately extract the shunt resistance of the individual subcells belonging to a tandem cell. The method relies on simple theoretical considerations and is based on the measurement of the current–voltage characteristic of the tandem cell by alternately keeping one of the subcells under dark conditions. Numerical simulations are employed to support the reliability of the technique, which is experimentally tested on micromorph devices deposited onto glass covered by a V‐shaped transparent conducting oxide and subject to different thermal treatments. A temperature accelerated life test on commercial concentrator lattice‐matched GaInP/GaInAs/Ge triple‐junction solar cells has been carried out. The acceleration of the aging has been accomplished by subjecting the solar cells at temperatures markedly higher than the nominal working temperature inside a concentrator, and the nominal photo‐current condition (820 X) has been emulated by injecting current in darkness. Three tests at different temperatures have been carried out. The failure distributions across the three test temperatures have been fitted to an Arrhenius–Weibull model. An Arrhenius activation energy of 1.59 eV was determined from the fit. The reliability functions and parameters of these solar cells at two nominal working conditions (80 and 100 °C) have been obtained. In both cases, the instantaneous failure rate function monotonically increases, that is, the failures are of the wear‐out kind. We have also observed that the reliability data are very sensitive to the nominal temperature condition. In fact, at a nominal working condition of 820 X and 80 °C, assuming that the concentration module works 5 h per day, the warranty time obtained for a failure population of 5% has been 113 years. However, for a nominal working condition of 820 X and 100 °C, the warranty time obtained for a failure population of 5% has been 7 years. Therefore, in order to offer a long‐term warranty, the working temperature could be a key factor in the design of the concentration photovoltaic systems. The index gear drive potential is defined for the estimation of the quality of spur gear drives as a maximum contact ratio obtained at the contact of teeth profiles along the full line of action. In this paper, a new method is proposed for the geometric design of symmetric and asymmetric involute meshing in which the contact ratio of the gear drive is equal to its potential. This method is appropriate for the geometric design of spur gears with a small teeth number and is based on the generalized model of involute meshing. The gear drive potential is assigned as an input value, from which, after appropriate calculations, the geometry of rack-cutters, gears and involute meshing can be determined. Using the proposed method, the areas of the realized potential and the areas of the existence of involute gear drives are defined. In addition, many numerical examples are solved. In the cases of symmetric and asymmetric meshing, the minimum teeth number is obtained when the gear drive potential is larger than one.  相似文献

Pressure‐sensitive polymers that simultaneously present reasonable electrical conducting properties, useful thermosetting behavior, and softness are hard to develop. To combine these properties into a single material, a cardanol‐based phenolic resin was prepared and blended in situ with polyaniline (PAni). The final polymer blend was composed of a soft solid material that could not be dissolved in ordinary solvents. Samples were characterized through X‐ray scattering, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and electrical conductivity and pressure sensitivity measurements. FTIR results indicate that the insertion of PAni into the blends did not change the chemical nature of the resin. According to wide‐angle X‐ray scattering results, PAni was dispersed homogeneously in the final polymer samples; this improved the sensitivity of the electrical conductivity to pressure variations, as confirmed through electromechanical tests. Pressure sensitivity and electromechanical analyses indicated that the produced blends could be used as pressure‐sensing materials. Among the tested materials, the blends containing 5 wt % PAni·H2SO4 presented the largest compression sensitivity values. Finally, it was shown for the first time through XRD analyses under pressure that PAni chains were considerably disturbed by compressive stresses. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The basic definition and development strategy of the DEMO plant based on the Chinese fusion power plant (FPP) program are presented briefly. A conceptual design study of fusion HCSB-DEMO reactor with a fusion power of 2550 MW and a neutron wall loading of 2.3 MW/m2 is performed recently. Three sets parameters of core plasma for different DEMO design objectives are proposed. A helium-cooled blanket system with ceramic breeder (Li4SiO4), the structure material of low-activation ferritic steel (LAF/M) and Be neutron multiplier based on Chinese ITER HCSB-TBM design foundation are considered. The design parameters, preliminary analyses and the basic structure as well as development strategy of HCSB-DEMO reactor are introduced.  相似文献
