Scope: Deoxynivalenol (DON) and fumonisins (FB) are the most frequently encountered mycotoxins produced by Fusarium species and most commonly co‐occur in animal diets. These mycotoxins were studied for their toxicity in piglets on several parameters including plasma biochemistry, organ histopathology and immune response. Methods and results: Twenty‐four 5‐wk‐old animals were randomly assigned to four different groups, receiving separate diets for 5 wk, a control diet, a diet contaminated with either DON (3 mg/kg) or FB (6 mg/kg) or both toxins. At days 4 and 16 of the trial, the animals were subcutaneously immunized with ovalbumin to assess their specific immune response. The different diets did not affect animal performance and had minimal effect on hematological and biochemical blood parameters. By contrast, DON and FB induced histopathological lesions in the liver, the lungs and the kidneys of exposed animals. The liver was significantly more affected when the two mycotoxins were present simultaneously. The contaminated diets also altered the specific immune response upon vaccination as measured by reduced anti‐ovalbumin IgG level in the plasma and reduced lymphocyte proliferation upon antigenic stimulation. Because cytokines play a key role in immunity, the expression levels of IL‐8, IL‐1β, IL‐6 and macrophage inflammatory protein‐1β were measured by RT‐PCR at the end of the experiment. The expression of these four cytokines was significantly decreased in the spleen of piglets exposed to multi‐contaminated diet. Conclusion: Taken together, our data indicate that ingestion of multi‐contaminated diet induces greater histopathological lesions and higher immune suppression than ingestion of mono‐contaminated diets. 相似文献

Cold gas spray (CGS) titanium coatings have been produced to obtain porous and rough coatings with enhanced mechanical performance. The coatings from optimal spraying conditions reached tensile strength values up to 40?MPa, shear strength up to 39?MPa and a loss mass of 37?mg/100 cycles in abrasive testing, values in accordance with the ASTM standards to be applied for orthopaedic joint prostheses. An innovative hierarchical structure (micro-nano) consisted of a TiO2 nanotubes top layer obtained by anodisation onto a CGS Ti coating. The present paper focuses on the characterisation of both surfaces, as-sprayed CGS Ti layer and double Ti-TiO2 layer, in terms of mechanical properties, surface topography and wettability (contact angle). There were not significant changes in micro-roughness, Ra~40?µm and Ra~30?µm, but a significant decrease in contact angle, from ≈26° up to 0°, was observed between these two structures. This behaviour indicates that the combination of the CGS?+?anodising results in promising high roughness superhydrophilic surfaces, ideal for biomedical applications. 相似文献

The corrosion of thermoelectric clathrates α- and β-Eu8Ga16−xGe30+x is studied under static air (DSC/TG) up to 650 °C. Oxidation product layers with thicknesses of 10.5 μm (α-Eu8Ga16−xGe30+x) and 4.5 μm (β-Eu8Ga16−xGe30+x) are formed. The oxidation begins at 360 and 380 °C, respectively. XRD pattern of the β-Eu8Ga16−xGe30+x oxidized layer shows Ge and four Eu2O3 reflections; while α-Eu8Ga16−xGe30+x data (sample crushed and grinded) shows α-Eu8Ga16−xGe30+x reflections (majority phase), two EuGa2±xGe4?x strongest reflections and Ge (minority phases). These results indicate the amount of oxides is very small or they are amorphous. High temperature powder XRD measurements on α-Eu8Ga16−xGe30+x under air confirm the oxidation onset temperature determined in DSC studies. 相似文献

The development and characterization of biodegradable polymers deriving from renewable natural sources has attracted much attention. The aim of this work was to partially characterize a thermoplastic starch obtained from the starch of seeds from the ramon tree (TPS‐RS) as an option to substitute thermoplastic starch from corn (TPS‐CS), in some of its applications. At 55% of relative humidity (RH), TPS‐RS had higher tensile strength and deformation than TPS‐CS. X‐ray diffraction analysis showed similar values in residual crystallinity (percentage of crystallinity that remains after plasticization process) in both TPS. The SEM micrographs showed a few remnant granular structures in the TPS‐RS. The FTIR showed a greater intensity in band at 1016 cm?1 in the TPS‐CS and TPS‐RS in comparison with their corresponding native starch, indicating an increase in the amorphous region after plasticization. The TGA analysis showed greater thermal stability in TPS‐CS (340 °C) compared with TPS‐RS (327 °C). In addition, the glass transition temperature in both TPS was 24 °C. The results obtained represent a starting point to potentialize the use of TPS‐RS instead of TPS‐CS for the development of new biodegradable materials for practical applications in different areas. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Food and nutritional care quality must be assessed and scored, so as to improve health institution efficacy. This study aimed to detect and compare actions related to food and nutritional care quality in public and private hospitals. METHODS: Investigation of the Hospital Food and Nutrition Service (HFNS) of 37 hospitals by means of structured interviews assessing two quality control corpora, namely nutritional care quality (NCQ) and hospital food service quality (FSQ). HFNS was also evaluated with respect to human resources per hospital bed and per produced meal. RESULTS: Comparison between public and private institutions revealed that there was a statistically significant difference between the number of hospital beds per HFNS staff member (p = 0.02) and per dietitian (p < 0.01). The mean compliance with NCQ criteria in public and private institutions was 51.8% and 41.6%, respectively. The percentage of public and private health institutions in conformity with FSQ criteria was 42.4% and 49.1%, respectively. Most of the actions comprising each corpus, NCQ and FSQ, varied considerably between the two types of institution. NCQ was positively influenced by hospital type (general) and presence of a clinical dietitian. FSQ was affected by institution size: large and medium-sized hospitals were significantly better than small ones. CONCLUSIONS: Food and nutritional care in hospital is still incipient, and actions concerning both nutritional care and food service take place on an irregular basis. It is clear that the design of food and nutritional care in hospital indicators is mandatory, and that guidelines for the development of actions as well as qualification and assessment of nutritional care are urgent. 相似文献

In the present study, six different models based on artificial neural networks have been developed to predict the compressive strength of different types of geopolymers. The differences between the models were in the number of neurons in hidden layers and in the method of finalizing the models. Seven independent input parameters that cover the curing time, Ca(OH)2 content, the amount of superplasticizer, NaOH concentration, mold type, geopolymer type and H2O/Na2O molar ratio were considered. For each set of these input variables, the compressive strength of geopolymers was obtained. A total number of 399 input-target pairs were collected from the literature, randomly divided into 279, 60 and 60 data and were trained, validated and tested, respectively. The best performance model was obtained through a network with two hidden layers and absolute fraction of variance of 0.9916, the absolute percentage error of 2.2102 and the root mean square error of 1.4867 in training phase. Additionally, the entire trained, validated and tested network showed a strong potential for predicting the compressive strength of geopolymers with a reasonable performance in the considered range. 相似文献

Molecular model systems based on propyl phosphonic acid (ppa) were studied by means of density functional theory calculations in order to describe the acid-acid interaction and the formation of the hydration sphere. The formation of ppa dimers is reported and the energetic difference between two dimer structures is presented. The hydration sphere of ppa was represented by model systems ppa(H2O)n, for which the system with n=4 formed the first hydration sphere (h1), while n=7 can be considered a good approximation to the complete inner hydration sphere around the phosphonic acid group. The study of the ppa-H+ (H2O)n model systems showed an interesting structural behavior comparatively to the ppa(H2O)n systems. The protonated acids exhibited equivalent phosphorous-oxygen bonds and a general molecular structure is proposed to represent these protonated species. 相似文献

The two main constrains on the characteristics of the acousto-optic deflector are the acoustic sound attenuation and velocity. These two parameters will determine the resolution and the radio frequency bandwidth. Due to a double degenerated phase matching condition on a specific acousto-optic deflector configuration, the possibility of an improvement on the resolution of the acousto optic deflector becomes evident. This degenerescence is the result of the action of a D.C. electric field by the electro-optic effect. This configuration presents several advantages upon the early related works based on optical activity of selected materials and enables a wideband interaction in such a way that the number of resolvable channels is kept high.
