Interpenetrating polymer networks (IPN) of novolac/poly (2‐ ethyl hexyl acrylate) (PEHA) have been prepared via in situ sequential technique of IPN formation. Full and semi‐IPNs were prepared with different blend ratios (w/w) e.g., 90 : 10, 80 : 20, and 70 : 30 in which the major constituent was novolac resin. A gradual decrease in specific gravity and hardness values was observed with increase in PEHA incorporation. A steady decrease in crosslink density with increase in PEHA fraction in the IPNs was quite evident. The IPNs were characterized with respect to their mechanical properties, e.g., ultimate tensile strength, percentage elongation at break, modulus, and toughness. Thermal behavior was studied by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. A plasticizing influence of PEHA on the rigid, brittle, and hard matrix of crosslinked phenolic resin is evidenced from the mechanical and thermal properties. Dimensional stability, thermal, and water repellency are very important properties of wood. In this research, wood polymer nanocomposite (WPNC) has been prepared by impregnation of styrene acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN), ??-trimethoxy silyl propyl methacrylate-modified TiO2 nanoparticles, nanoclay into simul (Bombex ceiba L.) wood. The characterization of the composites was done by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, and thermogravimetry. The resultant WPNC exhibited an improvement in water repellency, moisture resistance, dimensional stability, chemical resistance, hardness, and thermal stability. The maximum improvement in all the properties has been observed for the wood sample treated with SAN/TiO2 (0.5?%)/nanoclay (0.5?%).  相似文献

In this study, two bacterial strains capable of utilizing pyridine as a sole carbon source were isolated from biofilters. Based on the biochemical test, the organisms were identified as Shewanella putrefaciens and Bacillus sphaericus. In liquid cultures, S. putrefaciens and B. sphaericus degraded pyridine quite effectively up to 500 mg L(-1). S. putrefaciens degrades 500 mg L(-1) of pyridine completely within 140 h, whereas the B. sphaericus degrades 500 mg L(-1) of pyridine only nearly 75% and takes a longer duration of 150 h. S. putrefaciens used pyridine as sole carbon and energy source better than B. sphaericus. Monod's and Haldane's inhibitory growth models were used to obtain maximum specific growth rate (micro(max)), half saturation (K(s)) and substrate inhibition (K(i)) constant for pyridine by using S. putrefaciens and B. sphaericus. The high value of K(i) for S. putrefaciens than B. sphaericus indicates that the inhibition effect can be observed only in a high concentration range. The S. putrefaciens degrades pyridine with a faster rate than B. sphaericus. S. putrefaciens can be used effectively for the treatment of pyridine bearing wastewater and as an inoculum in a biofilter treating pyridine-laden gas.  相似文献

A full-scale blast test was conducted on a structure representing a mailroom, constructed with unreinforced masonry walls. The four walls were retrofitted with different quantities of glass fiber-reinforced polymers (GFRP) on the outside face to increase their resistance to the blast load. In addition, shotcrete was added to the inside face of the two long walls. The objective of this test was to validate a method of analysis that can be used to design effective retrofit techniques to contain blast loads. A blast load was produced by the detonation of a 0.91?kg (2?lb) equivalent TNT charge placed near the center of the room. Instrumentation on individual walls monitored the blast pressure and the consequent displacement and velocity of the walls. Although the walls sustained extensive internal damage and plastic deformation, the retrofit was able to withstand the blast load. It was observed through the postmortem analysis of the test that the stiffness of the walls is completely lost at an early stage and only membrane action of the GFRP provides structural resistance.  相似文献

Doped polyaniline (PANI) is synthesized in aqueous HCl medium by ammonium persulphate (APS) as oxidant. We used LiCl during in situ polymerization of aniline to explore any improvement of electrical properties of PANI due to Li+ and HCl incorporation. We varied the HCl and LiCl molarity in the polymerization medium keeping the total Cl concentration constant. The level of Li+ loading was measured by fluorescence spectroscopy of doped PANI. The PANI was characterized by FTIR and UV–visible spectroscopy, XRD analysis, intrinsic viscosity measurement and optical microscopy. The conductivity of doped PANI was measured by four probe method. Hall effect measurement was also done to measure the resistivity and the charge carrier density of the doped polyaniline.  相似文献

We present a method for the real time prediction of punctuate events in neural activity, based on the time-frequency spectrum of the signal, applicable both to continuous processes like local field potentials (LFPs) as well as to spike trains. We test it on recordings of LFP and spiking activity acquired previously from the lateral intraparietal area (LIP) of macaque monkeys performing a memory-saccade task. In contrast to earlier work, where trials with known start times were classified, our method detects and classifies trials directly from the data. It provides a means to quantitatively compare and contrast the content of LFP signals and spike trains: we find that the detector performance based on the LFP matches the performance based on spike rates. The method should find application in the development of neural prosthetics based on the LFP signal. Our approach uses a new feature vector, which we call the 2d cepstrum.  相似文献

This paper examines the multiple benefits of the adoption of Solar Home Systems (SHS) and discusses the dissemination potential for sustainable rural livelihoods in developing countries. Based on a household survey conducted in rural Bangladesh, we first identify the impact of SHS on the reduction in energy costs and compare purchasing costs. We then examine household lifestyle changes following the adoption of SHS. Finally, we consider several price-reduction scenarios to examine the potential demand for SHS and to evaluate its future dissemination potential. The results of the analysis indicate that households with SHS successfully reduce their consumption of kerosene and dependency on rechargeable batteries, with the cost reductions accounting for some 20–30% of monthly expenditures on SHS. Moreover, most households with SHS can enjoy its benefits, including electric lighting, watching television, and the ease of mobile phone recharging at home. Further, the price reduction can make possible potential demand in more than 60% of households without SHS, while additional price reductions promote the purchase of even larger SHS packages. This study concludes that even though the scale of single SHS is small, the micro-benefits for each household and the dissemination potential are substantial.  相似文献
