In this paper, performance of piezoelectrically actuated pyramidal valveless micropumps is studied experimentally in detail. Valveless micropumps based on silicon and glass substrate are fabricated using MEMS technology. Two different sizes of micropumps having overall dimensions of 5 mm × 5 mm × 1 mm and 10 mm × 10 mm × 1 mm are fabricated and characterized. In the fabricated micropumps, the thickness of silicon diaphragm is <20 µm which gives the advantage of operating pump at low voltage with excellent stability and consistency. The performance of micropumps in terms of flowrate and backpressure is evaluated for a wide range of driving frequency and actuating voltages. The maximum flowrate of water in the 10-mm micropump is 355 µl/min and backpressure of 3.1 kPa at zero flowrate for an applied voltage of 80 V at frequency 1.05 kHz. The reported micropumps have low footprint, high flowrate and backpressure. Thus, these micropumps are especially suited for biological applications as these can withstand adequate amount of backpressure. Comparative study of the performance of these micropumps with those available in the literature brings out the efficacy of these micropumps.  相似文献

Driver distraction represents a significant problem in the public transport sector. Various methods exist for investigating distraction; however, the majority are difficult to apply within the context of naturalistic bus driving. This article investigates the nature of bus driver distraction at a major Australian public transport company, including the sources of distraction present, and their effects on driver performance, through the application of a novel framework of ergonomics methods. The framework represents a novel approach for assessing distraction in a real world context. The findings suggest that there are a number of sources of distraction that could potentially distract bus drivers while driving, including those that derive from the driving task itself, and those that derive from the additional requirements associated with bus operation, such as passenger and ticketing-related distractions. A taxonomy of the sources of bus driver distraction identified is presented, along with a discussion of proposed countermeasures designed to remove the sources identified or mitigate their effects on driver performance.  相似文献

Feature identification is one of the key steps for 3D solids reconstruction from 2D vector engineering drawings using the volume-based method. In this paper, we propose a novel method to identify and validate features from sectional views. First, features are classified as explicit features (EPFs) and implicit features (IPFs), which are then identified in an order of priority using heuristic hints. We show that the problem of constructing EPFs can be formulated as a 0-1 integer linear program (ILP), and the IPFs are generated based on the understanding of semantic information of omitted projections in sectional views. Then, the Loop-Relation Graph (LRG) is introduced as a multi-connected-subgraph representation for describing the relations between loops and features. According to the LRG, a reasoning technique based on confidence is implemented to interactively validate features. This method can recover features without complete projections, and the level of understanding sectional views is improved. Full sections, partial sections, offset sections as well as revolved sections can be handled by our method. Several examples are provided to demonstrate the practicability of our approach.  相似文献

In this work, we develop a simple yet practical algorithm for constructing derivative free iterative methods of higher convergence orders. The algorithm can be easily implemented in software packages for achieving desired convergence orders. Convergence analysis shows that the algorithm can develop methods of various convergence orders which is also supported through the numerical work. Computational results ascertain that the developed algorithm is efficient and demonstrate equal or better performance as compared with other well known methods.  相似文献

We have recently developed and tested an efficient algorithm for solving the nonlinear inverse elasticity problem for a compressible hyperelastic material. The data for this problem are the quasi-static deformation fields within the solid measured at two distinct overall strain levels. The main ingredients of our algorithm are a gradient based quasi-Newton minimization strategy, the use of adjoint equations and a novel strategy for continuation in the material parameters. In this paper we present several extensions to this algorithm. First, we extend it to incompressible media thereby extending its applicability to tissues which are nearly incompressible under slow deformation. We achieve this by solving the forward problem using a residual-based, stabilized, mixed finite element formulation which circumvents the Ladyzenskaya-Babuska-Brezzi condition. Second, we demonstrate how the recovery of the spatial distribution of the nonlinear parameter can be improved either by preconditioning the system of equations for the material parameters, or by splitting the problem into two distinct steps. Finally, we present a new strain energy density function with an exponential stress-strain behavior that yields a deviatoric stress tensor, thereby simplifying the interpretation of pressure when compared with other exponential functions. We test the overall approach by solving for the spatial distribution of material parameters from noisy, synthetic deformation fields.  相似文献

Efficient network coverage and connectivity are the requisites for most Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) deployments, particularly those concerned with area monitoring. Due to the resource constraints of the sensor nodes, redundancy of coverage area must be reduced for effective utilization of the available resources. If two nodes have the same coverage area in their active state, and if both the nodes are activated simultaneously, it leads to redundancy in network and wastage of precious sensor resources. In this paper, we address the problem of network coverage and connectivity and propose an efficient solution to maintain coverage, while preserving the connectivity of the network. The proposed solution aims to cover the area of interest (AOI), while minimizing the count of the active sensor nodes. The overlap region of two sensor nodes varies with the distance between the nodes. If the distance between two sensor nodes is maximized, the overall coverage area of these nodes will also be maximized. Also, to preserve the connectivity of the network, each sensor node must be in the communication range of at least one other node. Results of simulation of the proposed solution indicate up to 95% coverage of the area, while consuming very less energy of 9.44 J per unit time in the network, simulated in an area of 2500 m2.  相似文献

Dagstuhl seminar no. 10102 on discrete event logistic systems recognized a network of persistent models to be a “Grand Challenge.” Such on-line model network will offer an infrastructure that facilitates the management of logistic operations. This ambition to create a network of persistent models implies a radical shift for model design activities as the objective is an infrastructure rather than application-specific solutions. In particular, model developers can no longer assume that they know what their model will be used for. It is no longer possible to design for the expected.This paper presents insights in model development and design in the absence of precise knowledge concerning a model's usage. Basically, model developers may solely rely on the presence of the real-world counterpart mirrored by their model and a general idea about the nature of the application (e.g. coordination of logistic operations). When the invariants of their real-world counterpart suffice for models to be valid, these models become reusable and integrate-able. As these models remain valid under a wide range of situations, they become multi-purpose and durable resources rather than single-purpose short-lived components or legacy, which is even worse.Moreover and more specifically, the paper describes how to build models that allow their users to generate predictions in unexpected situations and atypical conditions. Referring to previous work, the paper concisely discusses how these predictions can be generated starting from the models. This prediction-generating technology is currently being transferred into an industrial MES.  相似文献

Security countermeasures help ensure the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of information systems by preventing or mitigating asset losses from Cybersecurity attacks. Due to uncertainty, the financial impact of threats attacking assets is often difficult to measure quantitatively, and thus it is difficult to prescribe which countermeasures to employ. In this research, we describe a decision support system for calculating the uncertain risk faced by an organization under cyber attack as a function of uncertain threat rates, countermeasure costs, and impacts on its assets. The system uses a genetic algorithm to search for the best combination of countermeasures, allowing the user to determine the preferred tradeoff between the cost of the portfolio and resulting risk. Data collected from manufacturing firms provide an example of results under realistic input conditions.  相似文献
