During ruminal biohydrogenation of α‐linolenic acid, a non‐conjugated non‐methylene interrupted dienoic acid is formed containing a t10 double bond, namely t10,c15–18:2. The present study was designed to examine whether t10,c15–18:2 would exert similar anti‐adipogenic effects compared to t10,c12–18:2 in 3T3‐L1 adipocytes. Differentiated 3T3‐L1 adipocytes were treated with 35 or 70 µM of LNA, t10,c12–18:2, t10,c15–18:2, or bovine serum albumin (BSA) vehicle control for 120 h. Cellular triacylglycerol and protein were quantified using commercial colorimetric kits. Cells were analyzed for fatty acid composition and gene expression using gas chromatography and quantitative PCR, respectively. Trans10,cis12–18:2 decreased (P < 0.05) the adipocyte triacylglycerol (TAG) content, which was mainly related to a reduction in saturated fatty acids (SFA; e.g., 16:0 and 15:0) and cis monounsaturated fatty acids (c‐MUFA; e.g., c9–16:1 and c9–18:1). Trans10,cis12 also decreased (P < 0.05) the expression of genes related to fatty acid synthesis (ACACA, FASN), delta‐9 desaturation (SCD1), fatty acid elongation (ELOVL5), and fatty acid uptake (LPL) and upregulated (P < 0.05) the expression of the rate‐liming enzyme involved in fatty acid β‐oxidation (CPT1). In contrast, LNA and t10,c15–18:2 did not affect the gene expression and cellular content of the TAG, SFA, c‐MUFA, or SCD1 indices in adipocytes. Our findings suggest that t10,c15–18:2, despite having structural similarity to t10,c12–18:2 (presence of a trans‐10 double bond), does not exert anti‐adipogenic effects in 3T3‐L1 adipocytes. 相似文献

We present the different elaboration steps of a composite formed of carbon nanotubes (CNT) carpet embedded in an epoxy polymer. Detailed characterization at each step of the elaboration process is performed. The good alignment of CNT in as‐grown carpets is kept all along the elaboration process of the composite, as it is measured at both macro and microscopic scales by X‐ray scattering. We also ensured by X‐ray fluorescence measurements that the iron‐based catalyst particles used for the synthesis were removed from the carpet after a high temperature post‐annealing treatment. These measurements give valuable information for further applications involving unidirectional nanotube composites and membranes, where CNT alignment is a key parameter. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article presents a new approach for incorporating process-integration tools into life cycle analysis (LCA) for biofuel
production. Process synthesis techniques using mass- and energy-integration tools are employed to generate various scenarios
for reducing mass and energy consumption in the process. The global implications of these changes and the associated trade-offs
are assessed using the LCA tool: GREET. The developed approach enables the consideration of several levels of process integration
while tracking the process economics and the reduction of the net greenhouse gas emissions. Several cases of biofuels with
different processing technologies have been considered in this study, and the results show that when the process-integration
tools are effectively utilized and combined with LCA, better insights are obtained and the net greenhouse gas emissions decrease

This paper reviews the evolution of bioretention systems, a promising at-source storm-water best management practice. The introduction of bioretention systems in the 1990s by Prince George’s County, Md. is examined along with the motivations behind the development of the systems. A summary of the research findings on the performance of bioretention systems is provided including proposed design modifications to improve the field performance. Also included is an overview of past and current bioretention design guidelines in North America, as well as a discussion of issues surrounding the public adoption and implementation of bioretention systems. Potential alternative uses for the systems are highlighted and a review of bioretention modeling work is provided. Finally, the paper outlines research needs and anticipated future work necessary to bring about the widespread use of bioretention systems. 相似文献

The impact of induced lipolysis on the composition of plasma lipids is analyzed by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in humans. The variations of the methylene and methyl resonances from lipids in lipoproteins are studied under two sets of lipolytic conditions: acute endovascular lipolysis induced by an intravenous injection of heparin and subacute lipolysis induced by short fasting. During acute lipolysis, the degradation of the very low density lipoproteins structures is well correlated to the modifications observed in the areas of CH2 and CH3 MRS signals. The comparison of regular spectra, spectra with water signal suppression, and spectra recorded with a spin-echo sequence provides information on the behavior of the different parts of the lipoproteins, that is, the neutral core, little affected by heparine-induced lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activation, and the surface layer supplying substrates to LPL. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies of the orientational ordering in solid C60 are reviewed. The temperature dependence of selected Bragg reflections was carefully examined, allowing to obtain original information on the first-order orientational ordering transition at To = 259K, the unusual behavior of both fundamental and superstructure reflections below To and the freezing in of the C60 reorientations at Tg ≈ 85K. The diffuse intensity due to orientational disorder of the C60 molecules at room temperature is found to be strongly modulated, both radially and azimuthally. showing that the molecular orientations are indeed correlated. The corresponding intensity distribution has been calculated within a mean-field theory for different microscopic models of inter molecular interactions. In this quasi-experimental study among staff of 29 oncology wards, the authors evaluated the effects of a team-based burnout intervention program combining a staff support group with a participatory action research approach. Nine wards were randomly selected to participate in the program. Before the program started (Time 1), directly after the program ended (Time 2), and 6 months later (Time 3), study participants filled out a questionnaire on their work situation and well-being. Results of multilevel analyses showed that staff in the experimental wards experienced significantly less emotional exhaustion at both Time 2 and Time 3 and less depersonalization at Time 2, compared with the control wards.
