Very true operators in effect algebras

We introduce the concept of very true operator on an effect algebra. Although an effect algebra is only partial, we define it in the way which is in accordance with traditional definitions in residuated lattices or basic algebras. This is possible if we require monotonicity as an additional condition. We prove that very true operators on effect algebras can be characterized by means of certain subsets which are conditionally complete.     

Alternative Method of Solution of the Regulator Equation: L2‐Space Approach

An alternative method for the proof of solvability of the differential equation that is a part of the regulator equation which arises from the solution of the output regulation problem. The proof uses the L²‐space based theory of solutions of partial differential equations for the case of the linear output regulation problem. In the nonlinear case, a sequence of linear equations is defined so that their solutions converge to the solution of the nonlinear problem. This is proved using the Banach Contraction Theorem. Fourier classification images in cardiac nuclear medicine

At present, the diagnosis of cardiac left ventricular regional wall motion abnormalities (RWMA) in nuclear medicine is aided mainly by phase images and amplitude images, which picture the spatial distribution of the phase and of the amplitude of the first harmonics of pixel time activity curves, respectively. However, they do not utilize other information contained in the original radionuclide images, and they do not offer a direct diagnostic interpretation of the data. The proposed Fourier classification images (FCI) overcome these deficiencies. Their pixel intensities express directly the diagnostic class of RWMA. The FCI pixel intensities are functions of pixel coordinates, Fourier features of pixel time activity curves, and their distribution parameters, and they are not limited by the first harmonics model. The derivation of the pixel classifier includes normalization transformation of coordinates and activities. Fourier analysis of raw image data, and teaching the computer by examples of already diagnosed cases with the help of discriminant analysis. FCI offer direct and robust diagnosis of RWMA, superior to that derived from phase and amplitude images, especially in the detection of mild RWMA.     

Inverse ac Josephson effect and chaos in YBaCuO-Nb point contact

The V-I characteristics of a microwave-irradiated Josephson junction based on a YBa₂Cu₃O_7-x-Nb point contact are investigated at 4.2 K and at 9.5, 18.5, and 37 GHz. Shapiro steps, the inverse ac Josephson effect, chaos, and low-frequency noise are observed.     

Floral volatiles ofTanacetum vulgare L. attractive toLobesia botrana den. et schiff. females

The European grapevine moth (EGVM),Lobesia botrana, is a major pest of grapes in Europe. Females are attracted to a nonhost plant: tansy (Tanacetum vulgare L.), which is a common weed in Slovakian vineyards. A steam distillate extract of tansy flowers was analyzed by means of a GC-EAG technique to screen constituents detected by the olfactory receptors of EGVM females. From more than 200 GC peaks, nine peaks corresponding to monoterpenoids released an EAG response in more than 70% of the females (N=15):p-cymene,d-limonene,-thujene,-thujone,-thujone, thujyl alcohol, terpinene-4-ol, (Z)-verbenol, and piperitone. The steam distillate of tansy as well as a synthetic blend of identified compounds released consistent attraction in a field cage. The use of nonhost plants and host plant odors in integrated pest management is discussed.     

Sex pheromones of male yellowfin Baikal sculpin (Cottocomephorus grewingki): Isolation and chemical studies

Three components of the male yellowfin Baikal sculpin pheromonal signal have been isolated from urine by diethyl ether extraction, thinayer chromatography (TLC), and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Using mass spectrometry, we have identified two of them as testosterone (T) and 11-hydroxytestosterone (11HT). These steroids are synthesized in testes during full spermatogenesis, and they are excreted in male urine with milt. The third component is not a steroid. It is more likely to be a polyene alcohol (farnesol). 2Z,6E-Farnesol possesses behavioral activity.     

Properties of WN x /GaAs Schottky contacts prepared by ion implantation of nitrogen

The formation of WN _x /GaAs Schottky contacts using selective ion implantation of nitrogen into the sputtered tungsten film has been demonstrated. The contacts were characterized by Auger electron spectroscopy and current-voltage measurements. The composition of WN _x films and the thermal stability of WN _x /GaAs contacts were investigated. Good thermal stability of WN _x /GaAs contacts compared with a W/GaAs contact was observed after capless rapid thermal annealing at 450, 800 and 950°C for 10 s.     

DC and ac Josephson effects observed in high-temperature superconductor YBaCuO

We report the observation of the dc and ac Josephson effect and quasiparticle tunnelling in the high-temperature superconductor YBaCuO. The observation is made at 4.2 K. These effects were observed in a junction made by a niobium tip pressed against a high-T _c sample of YBaCuO ceramic. We observed a clean dc Josephson effect with a critical currentI _c 2 A and the ac effect with Shapiro steps corresponding toV=(hf/2e)n. The nature of the junction is not clear; however, we suggest that all observed effects can be explained by assuming a singlet pairing state in the ceramic. We have also observed a very peculiar noise behavior along theV-I characteristic.
