The 1977 Broadcasting‐Satellite Service (BSS) Plan for Region 1 & 3 had been widely acknowledged to be out‐of‐date by the late 1980s. Development of digital modulation in the early 1990s provided an opportunity to update the technical provisions of the Plan to make it more economically viable. After a decade of work and three World Radiocommunication Conferences (WRCs), the revision of Region 1 & 3 BSS Plan was finally completed in 2003. The new Plan increased channel assignments from 5 to 10 analog‐equivalent channels for each country in Region 1, and from 4 to 12 channels for each country in Region 3. Yet, despite the increase in capacity, the new Plan is surprisingly similar to the original one in terms of the technical parameters. It is still based on national coverage, and the channel plan, orbital location, orbital spacing, and polarization are also the same. As a result, the new Plan is no more economically viable to implement than the old. To create economically viable BSS systems would most likely require modifications to the assignment in the Plan. Yet, modification procedures were made more difficult to apply after replanning. Less future implementation of BSS networks than would otherwise have occurred can be expected, and an inefficient usage of these frequency bands will likely result. On the other hand, less implemented systems will mean more capacity set aside for future use. This is important for countries that currently do not have satellite operations. In the end, BSS replanning reflects the eternal conflict between efficient usage and guaranteed future access. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this study, tungsten carbide, with its hardness, chemical inertness, thermal stability and low resistivity (25 μΩ cm)1 is shown as a reliable contact material to n- and p-type 6H-SiC for very high temperature applications. WC films with thicknesses of 100–150 nm were deposited by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) from a WF6/C3H8/H2 mixture at 1173 K. A method to pattern CVD-tungsten carbide is suggested. TEM analysis of as deposited samples displayed a clear and unreacted interface. The electrical investigations of the p-type 6H-SiC Schottky contacts revealed a high rectification ratio and a low reverse current density (6.1 × 10−5 A cm−2, −10 V) up to 773 K. On n-type, a low barrier (ΦBn=0.79 eV) at room temperature was observed. The low ΦBn value suggests WC to be promising as an ohmic contact material on highly doped n-type epi-layers. We will show a temperature dependence for the barrier height of tungsten carbide contacts that can be related to the simultaneous change in the energy bandgap, which should be considered when designing SiC devices intended for high temperature operation.  相似文献

We have constructed an addressable 256 × 256 photodiode sensor array together with an 8-bit ADC (analog-to-digital converter) on the same chip. Such a digital camera is easy to connect to a computer where also the flexibility of the computer can be used to control the camera output. The sensor has been constructed in two versions. The first version was implemented with a 256-column parallel-bit-slice image processor on the same die in a commercial project and the second as a separate addressable digital image sensor. The sensor was functionally fabricated using 1.6 µm design rules in a 1.2 µm CMOS process where it required a total area of 96 mm2.  相似文献

X-ray diffraction technique, combined with digital image processing was used to compare the crystallinity of native starch from a number of potato varieties, differing in the degree of phosphorylation. The crystallinity was found to decrease linearily with an increased degree of phosphorylation. Based on earlier observations of the gelatinization enthalpies, it was assumed that the C-6 phosphates, which have an orientation out of the α-helices disturb the crystallization of the amylopectin during the starch synthesis. The C-3 phosphates, which are located in the interior parts of the α-helices, are not believed to interfere with the crystal structure.  相似文献

Achieving economic competitiveness as compared to LWRs and other Generation IV (Gen-IV) reactors is one of the major requirements to attract large-scale investment in commercial sodium cooled fast reactor (SFR) power plants. Advances in R&D for advanced SFR fuel and structural materials provide key long-term opportunities to improve SFR economics. In addition, other new opportunities are emerging to further improve SFR economics. This paper provides an overview on potential ideas from the perspective of thermal hydraulics to improve SFR economics. These include: (1) a new hybrid loop-pool reactor design to further optimize economics, safety, and reliability of SFRs with more flexibility, (2) a multiple-reheat and intercooling helium Brayton cycle to improve plant thermal efficiency and to reduce safety related overnight and operation costs, and (3) modern multi-physics thermal analysis methods to reduce analysis uncertainties and associated requirements for over-conservatism in reactor design. This paper reviews advances in all three areas and their potential beneficial impacts on SFR economics.  相似文献

A new CAMAC based data acquisition system has been installed at the Lund Nuclear Microprobe facility. This paper reports on the development and present status of the data acquisition system. The system is a true multiparameter CAMAC based system with fast Fera bus readout and in crate memory buffer. The user interface is based on Sparrow Kmax software for a Power Macintosh platform. The system read out and tag the event data with position on-line, which make fast on-line monitoring of spectra or element maps possible.Simultaneously, all data can be saved event by event for off-line analysis. The beam scanning part is software controlled through a timed D/A converter, this allows fast scanning of the beam. With a CCD-camera and video card the area to be analysed could be defined directly from the image, and the sample position can be moved. Any kind of irregular scan patterns could be defined.  相似文献

A very simple time of flight mass spectrometer has been used to measure mass spectra for the negative ions of organic compounds in the mass range up to 3000 u. Desorbed ions were obtained by applying a constant negative voltage to a flat metallic surface, coated with a few micrograms of organic material. We show that electrons and negative ions are emitted simultaneously from the same point on the surface. Mass spectra obtained by this technique are compared to mass spectra for the same compounds, obtained with 252Cf fission fragment ionization.  相似文献

Samples of poly(vinylchloride) containing polyene sequences were made by partial dehydrochlorination by alkali in tetrahydrofuran solution, by alkali in dioxane, and thermally in dimethyl-formamide. The reactions of polyene PVC were followed by UV spectrophotometry. Dienophiles were found to have relative reactivities similar to those found in reactions with low molecular-weight dienes. The reaction with maleic anhydride yielded polymers which after hydrolysis contained carboxyl groups. Hydroxylation was made with osmium tetraoxide and performic acid. With the latter reagent the reaction proceeded to complete disappearance of the UV-absorption peaks from trienes and higher polyenes: Gel permeation chromatography analysis showed that hydroxylation could be made with only minor changes in molecular-weight distribution. The formation of gel upon thermal dehydrochlorination in DMF was shown to be due to physical cross linking probably arising by crystallization of polyene segments. The adhesion of the hydroxylated and carboxylated polymers to glass and stainless-steel surfaces was investigated. Films adhered stronger as the degree of dehydrochlorination of the polyene PVC used to make the derivative increased. Samples with long sequences adhered much stronger than those containing short sequences of corresponding degrees of total substitution.  相似文献

A detailed investigation of the relationship between the parameters of the spray process and the in-flight properties of the particles was carried out using a multivariate statistical approach. A full factorial designed experiment concerning the spray process was performed, the spray gun parameters’ current, argon flow rate, hydrogen flow rate, and powder feed rate being selected to control the process. The particle properties, viz. velocity, temperature, and diameter, were determined using an optical measurement system, DPV 2000. In addition, the standard deviations of, and the correlations between, the measured particle properties were analyzed. The results showed current to have the strongest impact on particle velocity and particle temperature and argon flow rate to be the only parameter with an inverse effect on velocity and temperature.  相似文献

The phosphorous-based flame retardant additives poly(m-phenylene methylphosphonate) (PMP) and resorcinol bis(diphenyl phosphate) (RDP) are reacted with bisphenol F and aniline–based benzoxazine (BF-a). DSC, rheological analysis, FT-IR, and soxhlet extraction reveal the covalent incorporation of both FR additives—initiating phenols in PMP structure as well as free phenols generated via transesterification reaction in the case of RDP. In contrast to PMP, RDP elongates the processing window but decreases the thermo–mechanical properties. Both additives increase the resistance in reactions against small flames with solely a phosphorous loading of 0.3 wt%, resulting in a V-0 rating and an improvement in the OI value by up to 2% for RDP and 4% for PMP. Both FRs reduce the heat release rate but increase the smoke production and the smoke toxicity in the case of RDP.  相似文献
