This paper discusses the modeling framework and identifies a number of parameters relevant when setting up a computational fluid dynamics simulation of a dissolved air flotation (DAF) tank. The selection of a turbulence model, the choice between performing two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) simulations, the effects of the design of the flow geometry and the influence of the size of the air bubbles are addressed in the paper. The two-phase flow of air and water is solved in the Eulerian-Lagrangian frame of reference. The realizable k-ε model with nonequilibrium wall functions is suggested as a compromise between a need to effectively resolve the flow and the cost of the simulations. There is a discussion on the conditions for which the steady-state simulations are appropriate. We demonstrate that a steady 2D model can simulate a stratified flow pattern. Our results show that 2D models require adjustments in geometry (e.g., substitution of the outlet pipes to an outlet distributed over the total width of the tank) and in the parameters governing the flow in order to account for the true 3D nature of some of the flow patterns. The main objective of this paper is to analyze the role of policy support schemes and planning systems for inducing offshore wind power development in Sweden. Specifically, it highlights the different types of economic, political and planning-related conditions that face offshore wind power investors in Sweden, and provides brief comparisons to the corresponding investment conditions in Denmark, Norway and the UK. The analysis shows that in Sweden existing policy incentives are generally too weak to promote a significant development of offshore wind power, and the paper provides a discussion about a number of political and economic aspects on the choice between different support schemes for offshore wind in the country. Swedish permitting and planning procedures, though, appear favorable to such a development, not the least in comparison to the corresponding processes in the other major offshore wind countries in Europe (e.g., the UK). On a general level the paper illustrates that the success and failure stories of national offshore wind policies and institutions cannot be easily transferred across country borders, and the analysis shows that both the political and the legal frameworks governing the investment situation for offshore wind farms in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the UK differ significantly. 相似文献

HIV cell fusion and entry have been validated as targets for therapeutic intervention against infection. Bicyclams were the first low-molecular-weight compounds to show specific interaction with CXCR4. The most potent bicyclam was AMD3100, in which the two cyclam moieties are tethered by a 1,4-phenylenebis(methylene) bridge. It was withdrawn from clinical trials owing to its lack of oral bioavailability and cardiotoxicity. We have designed a combinatorial library of non-cyclam polynitrogenated compounds by preserving the main features of AMD3100. At least two nitrogen atoms on each side of the p-phenylene moiety, one in the benzylic position and the other(s) in the heterocyclic system were maintained, and the distances between them were similar to the nitrogen atom distances in cyclam. A selection of diverse compounds from this library were prepared, and their in vitro activity was tested in cell cultures against HIV strains. This led to the identification of novel potent CXCR4 coreceptor inhibitors without cytotoxicity at the tested concentrations. 相似文献

Cloud studies were carried out with a polarimetric bistatic lidar setup at the Arctic Lidar Observatory for Middle Atmosphere Research in Andenes (69 degrees N, 16 degrees E), Norway. Measurements were performed at altitudes between 1.5 and 10.5 km, corresponding to scattering angles between 130 degrees and 170 degrees. The geometry, not restricted to the parallel or perpendicular laser polarization directions, gave a well-defined scattering angle, which together with polarization characterization, was used to investigate the scattering particles. The overall objective of this study was to assess the use of in-line recorded milkability information from dairy herds with conventional milking parlors (CMP) and from herds with automatic milking systems (AMS) for genetic evaluation. Some genetic parameters were previously studied on AMS data for 2,053 Swedish Holstein (SH) and 1,749 Swedish Red (SR) cows in 19 herds. These data were combined in the present paper with milkability information from 74 herds with CMP, including 11,123 SH cows and 7,554 SR cows. Genetic parameters were estimated for the CMP data and genetic correlations were estimated between milkability traits measured in the 2 systems. Average flow rate and milking time were derived and used as similar milkability traits for both systems, whereas box time was used only for AMS herds. Estimated heritabilities were in the range from 0.24 to 0.49. Even though the traits were differently defined in the 2 milking systems, the corresponding traits recorded in AMS and CMP were genetically closely related (0.93–1.00). Similarly, close genetic relationships were shown between milkability traits in different lactations in both breeds (0.93–0.99). Thus, it should be possible to treat milkability traits in different lactations and from different milking systems as the same traits in genetic evaluations. The various milkability traits were also highly genetically correlated, indicating that the inclusion of just one trait in the genetic selection program would efficiently select for milkability without the need to consider all measures. Comparisons of repeatability and random regression models, combining all information from the 2 systems for genetic evaluation, were done to find the most suitable model for genetic evaluation purposes. Even though the random regression models were favored in the formal model tests to evaluate suitability, correlation coefficients between test-days within lactation were high (0.7–0.8) and small differences in breeding values resulted among different models. That would indicate that a few test-days per cow would produce accurate breeding values for milkability. 相似文献

First-principles calculations are used to investigate the structural and electronic properties of Fe-doped ZnO nanoparticles. Based on extensive validation studies surveying various density functionals, the hybrid functional PBE0 is employed to calculate the structures, formation energies, and electronic properties of Fe in ZnO with Fe concentrations of 6.25, 12.5, and 18.75 at%. Substitution of Zn by Fe, zinc vacancies, and interstitial oxygen defects is studied. High-resolution inner-shell electron energy loss spectroscopy measurements and X-ray absorption near-edge structure calculations of Fe and O atoms are performed. The results show that Fe-doped ZnO nanoparticles are structurally and energetically more stable than the isolated FeO (rocksalt) and ZnO (wurtzite) phases. The Fe dopants distribute homogeneously in ZnO nanoparticles and do not significantly alter the host ZnO lattice parameters. Simulations of the absorption spectra demonstrate that Fe(2+) dominates in the Fe-doped ZnO nanoparticles reported recently, whereas Fe(3+) is present only as a trace. 相似文献

In this study, an experimental investigation concerning exhaust gas catalysts for heavy-duty diesel engines fuelled by natural gas or biogas is presented. Miniature monoliths, 2.5 wt% Pd/Al2O3, have been prepared, characterised and tested. Various methods have been used in order to obtain different palladium particle sizes, including incipient wetness and microemulsion technique. Crystallite sizes between 2 and 40 nm were obtained. We observed that the metal particle size influences the activity for methane oxidation. Moreover, the homogeneity of the active material was found to affect the reaction rate. 相似文献

Endocrine disrupting effects on fish associated with sewage treatment effluents have been demonstrated in several studies. To investigate if the effluents from two modern Swedish sewage treatment plants contained estrogenic substances, juvenile rainbow trout were exposed to sewage water before and after the last treatment step which is a sand filter. As a biomarker for estrogenic effect, vitellogenin was analysed in the blood plasma of the exposed fish. To identify substances possibly responsible for the effect, bile fluid from the exposed fish were analysed with GC/MS. Elevated levels of vitellogenin were only seen in the fish exposed at one of the sewage treatment plants, the one with shorter residence time in the biological treatment steps, which suggests that the residence time is of importance for the ability to reduce the amount of estrogenic substances in the sewage water. The highest elevation of vitellogenin was seen in the fish exposed to water before the sand filter, which indicates that the sand filter contributes to further reduction of estrogenic substances in the sewage water. In bile from the same group of fish, considerably higher concentrations of estrone, bisphenol A and 4-nonylphenol (4.0 microg/g bile, 23 microg/g bile and 24 microg/g bile, respectively) were observed compared to bile from control fish (<0.04 microg/g bile, 0.21 microg/g bile, and 3.5 microg/g bile, respectively). The more potent steroidal estrogens were suggested to be major contributors to the observed estrogenic effect, although xenoestrogens were detected at higher concentrations in the bile fluid. 相似文献
