Cognitive radio (CR) is a newly developed technology for increasing spectral efficiency in wireless communication systems. In the CR networks, there exist two traditional spectrum‐sharing technologies called spectrum overlay and spectrum underlay. A new hybrid overlay/underlay paradigm has also been discussed in the literature. In this work, we create a unified spectrum sensing and throughput analysis model, which is suitable for overlay, underlay, and hybrid overlay/underlay paradigms in the CR networks. In the proposed model, the energy detection scheme is employed for the spectrum sensing in the network in which the co‐channel interference is present among primary users and secondary users (SUs). The SUs' throughput in the proposed CR system model is then analyzed. H.264/AVC is the latest video coding standard adopting variable block size motion estimation (VBS-ME), quarter-pixel accuracy, motion vector prediction and multi-reference frames for motion estimation. These new features result in much higher computation requirements than previous coding standards. In this paper we propose a novel most significant bit (MSB) first bit-serial architecture for full-search block matching VBS-ME, and compare it with systolic implementations. Since the nature of MSB-first processing enables early termination of the sum of absolute difference (SAD) calculation, the average hardware performance can be enhanced. Five different designs, one and two dimensional systolic and tree implementations along with bit-serial, are compared in terms of performance, pixel memory bandwidth, occupied area and power consumption.

This paper proposes new integer approximations of the lapped transforms, called the integer lapped transforms (ILT), and studies their applications to image coding. The ILT are derived from a set of orthogonal sinusoidal transforms having short integer coefficients, which can be implemented with simple integer arithmetic. By employing the same scaling constants in these integer sinusoidal transforms, integer versions of the lapped orthogonal transform (LOT), the lapped biorthogonal transform (LBT), and the hierarchical lapped biorthogonal transform (HLBT) are developed. The ILTs with 5-b integer coefficients are found to have similar coding gain (within 0.06 dB) and image coding performances as their real-valued counterparts. Furthermore, by representing these integer coefficients as sum of powers-of-two coefficients (SOPOT), multiplier-less lapped transforms with very low implementation complexity are obtained. In particular, the implementation of the eight-channel multiplier-less integer LOT (ILOT), LBT (ILBT), and HLBT (IHLBT) require 90 additions and 44 shifts, 98 additions and 59 shifts, and 70 additions and 38 shifts, respectively.  相似文献

Monitoring and timely intervention are extremely important in the continuous management of health and wellness among all segments of the population, but particularly among those with mild dementia. In relation to this, we prescribe three design principles for the construction of services and applications. These are ambient intelligence, service continuity, and micro-context. In this paper, we provide three exemplars from our research and development activities that illustrate the use of these design principles in the construction of services and applications. The high-current snapback characteristics of MOSFETs with different channel lengths and widths, gate oxide thicknesses, and substrate dopings were studied to determine their effectiveness in electrostatic discharge stress protection. Filamentary conduction was not observed for currents up to 7 mA/μm of channel width for a pulsewidth of 500 ns. MOSFETs with shorter channel lengths require lower voltages to sustain the same current, independent of gate oxide thickness. Increasing the substrate doping does not necessarily reduce the high current voltage. These trends can be explained using a simple lateral n-p-n bipolar transistor snapback model  相似文献

Quality of Service (QoS) characterization and prediction is of utmost importance in contemporary operating cellular communications networks. Measurements data of speech and video telephony have been collected using modern experimental equipment. More specifically, key performance indicators of radio, speech and video quality are evoked. The objective of our study is to critically investigate the performance of speech and video telephony at live cellular networks correlating significant QoS parameters from radio and the service side. Simple non-linear regression models are also proposed for speech and video quality prediction. Finally, the paper represents the splendid positive influences of the continuous performance evaluation for the optimization of the mobile networks. Quasi-cyclic (QC) low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes form an important subclass of LDPC codes. These codes have encoding advantage over other types of LDPC codes. This paper addresses the issue of efficient encoding of QC-LDPC codes. Two methods are presented to find the generator matrices of QC-LDPC codes in systematic-circulant (SC) form from their parity-check matrices, given in circulant form. Based on the SC form of the generator matrix of a QC-LDPC code, various types of encoding circuits using simple shift registers are devised. It is shown that the encoding complexity of a QC-LDPC code is linearly proportional to the number of parity bits of the code for serial encoding, and to the length of the code for high-speed parallel encoding.  相似文献
