Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) was employed to characterize the topography of 32 and 4 µm thick gallium films; thicknesses that have not yet been addressed. The STM images revealed submicron grains on both surfaces although a reduced grain density was observed on the thinner film. The granular structure may be explained by a thin gallium oxide layer that acted as an elastic membrane against liquid gallium underneath that expanded during freezing of the sample. We also believe that the same gallium oxide layer is also responsible for an intriguing effect that appears as soon as the tungsten tip lands on the gallium film: the onset of continuous regular z-oscillations of the tip even at rest. This is an effect that we believe has not been previously reported in the literature. We have also demonstrated, for the first time, a new thickness determination method for the gallium film based on an STM image obtained during the solid-to-liquid phase transition. 相似文献

Sparse representations provide a powerful framework for various image processing tasks, among which image recovery seems to be an already classical application. While most developments of image recovery applications are focused on finding the best dictionary, the possibility of using already existing sparse image representations tends to be ignored. This is the case of the JPEG compressed image representation, which is a sparse image representation in terms of the discrete cosine transform (DCT) dictionary. The development of sparse frameworks directly on the JPEG encoded image representation can lead to computationally efficient approaches. Here we introduce a DCT-based JPEG compressed domain formulation of the color image recovery process within a sparse representation framework and we prove mathematically and experimentally not only its numerical efficiency as compared to the pixel level formulation (the processing time is reduced up to 40 %), but also the good quality of the restoration results. 相似文献

In this paper we investigate the convergence behavior of a primal-dual splitting method for solving monotone inclusions involving mixtures of composite, Lipschitzian and parallel sum type operators proposed by Combettes and Pesquet (in Set-Valued Var. Anal. 20(2):307–330, 2012). Firstly, in the particular case of convex minimization problems, we derive convergence rates for the partial primal-dual gap function associated to a primal-dual pair of optimization problems by making use of conjugate duality techniques. Secondly, we propose for the general monotone inclusion problem two new schemes which accelerate the sequences of primal and/or dual iterates, provided strong monotonicity assumptions for some of the involved operators are fulfilled. Head pose classification from surveillance images acquired with distant, large field-of-view cameras is difficult as faces are captured at low-resolution and have a blurred appearance. Domain adaptation approaches are useful for transferring knowledge from the training (source) to the test (target) data when they have different attributes, minimizing target data labeling efforts in the process. This paper examines the use of transfer learning for efficient multi-view head pose classification with minimal target training data under three challenging situations: (i) where the range of head poses in the source and target images is different, (ii) where source images capture a stationary person while target images capture a moving person whose facial appearance varies under motion due to changing perspective, scale and (iii) a combination of (i) and (ii). On the whole, the presented methods represent novel transfer learning solutions employed in the context of multi-view head pose classification. We demonstrate that the proposed solutions considerably outperform the state-of-the-art through extensive experimental validation. Finally, the DPOSE dataset compiled for benchmarking head pose classification performance with moving persons, and to aid behavioral understanding applications is presented in this work. 相似文献

Experimental investigations were carried out in model external-loop airlift reactors. Two reactors of laboratory scale (riser liquid height ranged between 1.16-1.56 m, riser diameter 0.03 m, AD/AR ratio between 0.111-1,000, total liquid volume VT = (1.189-2.446).10-3m3) and pilot-plant scale (riser liquid height of 4.4 and 4.7 m, respectively, riser diameter 0.200 m, AD/AR ratio of 0.1225 and 0.040 m, total liquid volume, VT = (0.144-0.170) m3) were used.
The influences of reactor geometry characterized by some parameter as: AD/AR ratio, liquid height in riser and downcomer and liquid height in gas separator, together with the amount of introduced air, on the basic hydrodynamic design parameters: gas holdup and liquid circulation velocity were analysed.
The influence of gas sparger design on gas holdup and liquid velocity was found to be negligible.
The experimental liquid circulation velocity was correlated using a simplified form of the energy balance in airlift reactors, valid for external-loop airlift reactors with almost complete phase separation at the top.

Today there exist a wide variety of scientific workflow management systems, each designed to fulfill the needs of a certain scientific community. Unfortunately, once a workflow application has been designed in one particular system it becomes very hard to share it with users working with different systems. Portability of workflows and interoperability between current systems barely exists. In this work, we present the fine-grained interoperability solution proposed in the SHIWA European project that brings together four representative European workflow systems: ASKALON, MOTEUR, WS-PGRADE, and Triana. The proposed interoperability is realised at two levels of abstraction: abstract and concrete. At the abstract level, we propose a generic Interoperable Workflow Intermediate Representation (IWIR) that can be used as a common bridge for translating workflows between different languages independent of the underlying distributed computing infrastructure. At the concrete level, we propose a bundling technique that aggregates the abstract IWIR representation and concrete task representations to enable workflow instantiation, execution and scheduling. We illustrate case studies using two real-workflow applications designed in a native environment and then translated and executed by a foreign workflow system in a foreign distributed computing infrastructure. 相似文献

(CoFe2O4)X(SiO2-PVA)100-X (X = 5, 25, 50, 75 and 95%) nanocomposites were prepared via sol-gel route and annealed at 700 and 1100 °C. The influence of CoFe2O4 content on the structure, morphology and magnetic properties of nanocomposites was studied. X-ray diffraction patterns, Mössbauer and Fourier transform infrared spectra revealed the formation of CoFe2O4 as unique magnetic phase. The crystallinity degree increases with the CoFe2O4 content and the annealing temperature. Transmission electron microscopy images revealed the spherical shape of the obtained nanocomposites. Mössbauer spectra exhibit typical magnetic sextets, allowing the calculation of the cations distribution among tetrahedral and octahedral sites and the stoichiometry of CoFe2O4. A strong correlation between the particle morphology and the magnetic properties of nanocomposites was found. The highest saturation magnetization was identified for (CoFe2O4)95(SiO2-PVA)5 nanocomposite. 相似文献
