In situ X-ray diffraction measurements at the Advanced Photon Source show that α-Al2O3 and MgAl2O4 react nearly instantaneously and completely, and nearly completely to form single-phase high-alumina spinel during voltage-to-current type of flash sintering experiments. The initial sample was constituted from powders of α-Al2O3, MgAl2O4 spinel, and cubic 8 mol% Y2O3-stabilized ZrO2 (8YSZ) mixed in equal volume fractions, the spinel to alumina molar ratio being 1:1.5. Specimen temperature was measured by thermal expansion of the platinum standard. These measurements correlated well with a black-body radiation model, using appropriate values for the emissivity of the constituents. Temperatures of 1600-1736°C were reached during the flash, which promoted the formation of alumina-rich spinel. In a second set of experiments, the flash was induced in a current-rate method where the current flowing through the specimen is controlled and increased at a constant rate. In these experiments, we observed the formation of two different compositions of spinel, MgO•3Al2O3 and MgO•1.5Al2O3, which evolved into a single composition of MgO•2.5Al2O3 as the current continued to increase. Copper aluminium oxide (CuAlO2) of well ordered crystalline films were deposited on to glass substrates with Cu/Al ratio r = 0.8 at the substrate temperatures of 250, 300, 350, 400 and 450 °C. Films which were characterized had a thickness of the order of few micrometers. Films deposited at the optimized deposition temperature (450 °C) revealed well-crystalline CuAlO2 phase with XRD peak at 2θ = 31.7° corresponds to (006) reflection. The peak positions of the core level XPS spectra, confirm the presence of delafossite CuAlO2 phase. The optical transmission of 80 % has been observed in the visible spectrum. The obtained band gap energy is 4.1 eV. From the observed results it was evidenced that the substrate temperature has strong influence on the structural and optical properties of the spray pyrolysed copper aluminium oxide films. 相似文献

Chryseobacterium meningosepticum is an uncommon human pathogen, which is an inhabitant of soil and water. It should be included in the list of suspected nosocomial infections, especially in patients with immunocompromised status. C. meningosepticum infections are not common but are clinically important because the organism is naturally resistant to multiple antibiotics. We report a case where the bacterium was isolated from the pleural fluid from a chronic kidney disease patient on hemodialysis, who developed pneumonia with complicated parapneumonic effusion. To the best of our knowedge, this is the first case where C. meningosepticum is isolated from the pleural effusion, from India. 相似文献

A novel concept of self-repairable glass useful as seals in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) is proposed, developed, and used for making metal-glass–ceramic seals for enhancing reliability and life. In this concept, cracks created during SOFC operation are repaired by the crack healing process driven by the viscous flow of the glass. An approach for studying the kinetics of crack healing in glasses responsible for the self-repair is described and used to study the crack healing behavior. The cracks are created by a microindenter, and the progression of healing of cracks thus created on a silicate glass surface is experimentally determined at different annealing temperatures and times. Sequential changes in the crack morphology during thermal healing are also studied to identify the three stages of crack healing process. A crack healing model, based on the relationship among crack length, time, temperature, glass viscosity, and its flow behavior is developed in order to describe and predict the time required for self-repair on a glass surface. The predictions from the developed model is then compared with the experimental data and found to be in good agreement. These results also demonstrated the relative importance of the different stages of crack healing on the overall healing or self-repair behavior. 相似文献

The oxidation kinetics of amorphous silicon carbonitride (SiCN) was measured at 1350°C in ambient air. Two types of specimens were studied: one in the form of thin disks, the other as a powder. Both specimens contained open nanoscale porosity. The disk specimens exhibited weight gain that saturated exponentially with time, analogous to the oxidation behavior of reaction-bonded Si3 N4 . The saturation value of the weight gain increased linearly with specimen volume, suggesting the nanoscale pore surfaces oxidized uniformly throughout the specimen. This interpretation was confirmed by high-resolution electron microscopy and secondary ion mass spectroscopy. Experiments with the powders (having a particle size much larger than the scale of the nanopores) were also consistent with measurements of the disks. However, the powder specimens, having a high surface-to-volume ratio, continued to show measurable weight gain due to oxidation of the exterior surface. The wide range of values for the surface-to-volume ratio, which included all specimens, permitted a separation of the rate of oxidation of the free surface and the oxidation of the internal surfaces of the nanopores. Surface oxidation data were used to obtain the rate constant for parabolic growth of the oxidation scale. The values for the rate constant obtained for SiCN lay at the lower end of the spectrum of oxidation rates reported in the literature for several Si3 N4 and SiC materials. Convergence in the behavior of SiCN and CVD-SiC is ascribed to the purity of both materials. Conversely, it is proposed that the high rates of oxidation of sintered polycrystalline silicon carbides and nitrides, as well as the high degree of variability of these rates, might be related to the impurities introduced by the sintering aids. 相似文献

Nowadays, refrigeration systems are important for industrial and domestic applications. The coefficient of performance of a vapour compression refrigeration system can be improved if a reduction in the work of compression can be achieved by a suitable technique for a specified heat removal rate. The present study investigates the effect of material coating of electroless nickel (EN) plating. The friction and wear experiments were performed using a four-ball machine tribo tester. Controlling the EN plating parameters plays an important role in the quality of coating. It depends on the wear scar rate of the coated material. So it is necessary to optimise the process parameters of EN plating. The experimental studies have been conducted under varying pressure, load and time on quality characteristics. We show that a polymer‐based route to ceramics can be implemented into additive manufacturing by reducing the time for pyrolysis to about a second, which we call flash pyrolysis. Repetitive deposition of nanometer scale coatings of the ceramic, in this way, is employed to create defect‐free infiltrations of carbon fiber composites. The mechanical strength of the fibers is retained in the composite. Excellent wetting properties of the polymer precursor permits three‐dimensional, conformal coating through the three stages of infiltration: nanoscale coating of the single fibers, filling of interstitial spaces between the fibers, and a buildup of the coating over the entire composite. The flash pyrolysis method will enable a new genre of polymer‐derived ceramics made into net shape by this unusual method of additive manufacturing. 相似文献

Diffraction peaks of nanoscale particles of 3 mol% yttria‐stabilized zirconia become sharper as the powder sinters. The reduction in the peak width is correlated with the increase in density. The sharpening of the peak agrees reasonably well with the remaining free surface area as the sample sinters. Therefore, high curvature of the free surface of the pores is assumed to lead to peak broadening (the grain boundaries that grow at the expense of the free surfaces of the pores do not have this curvature). The change in the grain size during sintering does not make a significant contribution to peak width. 相似文献
