Fuzzy based genetic neural networks for the classification of murder cases using Trapezoidal and Lagrange Interpolation Membership Functions

This paper describes the construction of a decision system to be used by judges who is about to pass sentence in murder cases. Classification models of murder cases based on fuzzy neural network with random weights and fuzzy neural network with Genetic Algorithm based weights are designed. A simulation program in C++ has been deliberated and developed for analyzing the consequences. Results show that the fuzzy neural networks increase the rate of convergence in comparison with conventional neural networks with backpropagation algorithm. That the fuzzy neural networks for classification of murder cases using Trapezoidal Membership Function outperform Lagrange Interpolation and Gaussian Membership Function is also reported. Comparative studies are carried out for a number of networks and configurations.     

Characterization of aluminides formed on superalloy 690 substrate

Ni-Cr-Fe based superalloy 690 substrate, pack aluminized at 1273 K, revealed formation of multilayer comprising (NiCr)Al + Cr₅Al₈, Ni₂Al₃ + Cr₅Al₈, NiAl and γ phases. Knoop hardness number varied from 225 to 1142 along the cross-section. Wear and friction tests on aluminized specimen were performed in dry medium using reciprocating sliding wear and friction machine with tungsten carbide ball at 15 N load with frequencies at 10, 15 and 20 Hz. The coefficient of friction, the static ones were obtained in the vicinity of 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5, while dynamic ones were 0.3, 0.4 and 0.4 respectively. For the ball, the wear rate was 1.9 × 10^?6, 1.2 × 10^?5 and 1.5 × 10^?5 mm³/Nm, whereas the wear rate was 5.8 × 10^?5, 3.8 × 10^?4 and 4.6 × 10^?4 mm³/Nm respectively for the aluminized specimen indicating good adherent surface coating.     

Effect of Microstructural Parameters on the Relative Densities of Metal Foams

A detailed quantitative microstructural analyses of primarily open cell FeCrAlY and 314 stainless steel metal foams with different relative densities and pores per inch (p.p.i.) were undertaken in the present investigation to determine the effect of microstructural parameters on the relative densities of metal foams. Several elements of the microstructure, such as major and minor cell sizes, cell areas and perimeters, ligament dimensions, cell shapes, and area fractions of closed and open cells, were measured. The cross-sections of the foam ligaments showed numerous pores, and their circularity factors and average sizes were determined. The area fractions of the open cells and ligaments decreased, whereas that of the closed cells increased linearly with increasing relative density. The relative densities and p.p.i. were not significantly dependent on cell size, cell perimeter, and ligament dimensions within the limits of experimental scatter. A phenomenological model is proposed to rationalize the present microstructural observations.     

Synthesis of nanostructured copper hexacyanidoferrate and its application in voltammeteric detection of salbutamol

Nanostructured copper hexacyanidoferrate has been synthesized and characterized using elemental analysis, atomic absorption spectroscopy, thermal and infrared spectral studies. The transmission electron microscopic studies of the synthesized material showed that it consisted of irregular oval and rod shaped particles with a size range 70–100 nm. Nanostructured copper hexacyanidoferrate modified glassy carbon electrode was characterized by cyclic voltammetery and nanostructured copper hexacyanidoferrate–carbon nanotube composite material modified glassy carbon electrode has been used for electrocatalytic oxidation of salbutamol. The electrode modified with composite material was found to reduce the peak potential of oxidation of salbutamol by nearly 90 mV.     

Effect of puffing on oil characteristics ofAmaranth (Rajgeera) seeds

Puffing or popping is a common method of processingAmaranthus cruentus (Syn.Amaranthus paniculatus L. or Rajgeera) grain. Investigations into the effect of this processing treatment have shown the percent unsaturation in the oil to decrease from 75.5% to 62.3%. The maximum effect is on linoleic acid, the quantity of which decreased sharply from 46.8% to 27.0%. Squalene also increased by 15.5%, due to puffing of amaranth seeds.     

An EXAFS study of Cu/ZnO and Cu/ZnO-Al2O3 methanol synthesis catalysts

Cu K-absorption edge and EXAFS measurements on binary Cu/ZnO and ternary Cu/ ZnO-Al₂O₃ catalysts of varying compositions on reduction with hydrogen at 523 K, show the presence of Cu microclusters and a species of Cu¹⁺ dissolved in ZnO apart from metallic Cu and Cu₂O. The proportions of different phases critically depend on the heating rate especially for catalysts of higher Cu content. Accordingly, hydrogen reduction with a heating rate of 10 K/min predominantly yields the metal species (>50%), while a slower heating rate of 0.8 K/min enhances the proportion of the Cu¹⁺ species ( 60%). Reduced Cu/ZnO-Al₂O₃ catalysts show the presence of metallic Cu (upto 20%) mostly in the form of microclusters and Cu¹⁺ in ZnO as the major phase ( 60%). The addition of alumina to the Cu/ZnO catalyst seems to favour the formation of Cu¹⁺/ZnO species.
