Single-mode device-to-fiber alignment automation is usually achieved with a classical mathematical optimization approach. We present a different approach, which is based on the identification of particular intrinsic characteristics of the coupled optical power and on estimating residual axial, transverse, and angular misalignments in the far field. Such a model-based approach is based on the physical nature of the optical coupling phenomenon and can replace or be complementary to already known automated alignment methods. An alignment algorithm is described and validated experimentally using two single-mode fibers as Gaussian beam emitter and receiver.  相似文献

Male survivors of childhood cancer are at risk of suffering from infertility in adulthood because of gonadotoxic chemotherapies. For adult men, sperm collection and preservation are routine procedures prior to treatment; however, this is not an option for pre-pubertal children. From young boys, a small biopsy may be taken before chemotherapy, and spermatogonia may be propagated in vitro for future transplantation to restore fertility. A robust system that allows for scalable expansion of spermatogonia within a controlled environment is therefore required. Stirred suspension culture has been applied to different types of stem cells but has so far not been explored for spermatogonia. Here, we report that pre-pubertal porcine spermatogonia proliferate more in bioreactor suspension culture, compared with static culture. Interestingly, oxygen tension provides an avenue to modulate spermatogonia status, with culture under 10% oxygen retaining a more undifferentiated state and reducing proliferation in comparison with the conventional approach of culturing under ambient oxygen levels. Spermatogonia grown in bioreactors upregulate the Wnt/ β-catenin pathway, which, along with enhanced gas and nutrient exchange observed in bioreactor culture, may synergistically account for higher spermatogonia proliferation. Therefore, stirred suspension bioreactors provide novel platforms to culture spermatogonia in a scalable manner and with minimal handling.  相似文献

Tests of interpersonal theories of depression have established that elevated depression levels among peers portend increases in individuals' own depressive symptoms, a phenomenon known as depression socialization. Susceptibility to this socialization effect may be enhanced during the transition to adolescence as the strength of peer influence rises dramatically. Socialization of depressive symptoms among members of child and adolescent friendship groups was examined over a 1-year period among 648 youth in grades six through eight. Sociometric methods were utilized to identify friendship groups and ascertain the prospective effect of group-level depressive symptoms on youths' own depressive symptoms. Hierarchical linear modeling results revealed a significant socialization effect and indicated that this effect was most potent for (a) girls and (b) individuals on the periphery of friendship groups. Future studies would benefit from incorporating child and adolescent peer groups as a developmentally salient context for interpersonal models of depression. Replacement of the C-terminal carboxylic acid functionality of peptide inhibitors of hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS3 protease (complexed with NS4A peptide cofactor) by activated carbonyl groups does not produce any substantial increase in potency. These latter inhibitors also inhibit a variety of other serine and cysteine proteases whereas the carboxylic acids are specific. Norvaline was identified as a chemically stable replacement for the P1 residue of Ac-DDIVPC-OH which was also compatible with activated carbonyl functionalities.  相似文献

Continuing a previous analytical and numerical work, an experimental investigation of seven intrinsic properties of the optical coupling between axisymmetric Gaussian beams is presented. In this study, two single-mode fibers are used as the receiver and the emitter and a five-axis nanopositioning system is used to investigate optical coupling properties by moving one fiber relative to the other. Experiments demonstrate the existence of sufficiently accurate hyperbolic, parabolic, and linear trends for the optical coupling phenomenon, which can be useful for developing model-based alignment algorithms.  相似文献

Hormones prepare the uterus for the arrival and subsequent invasion of the embryo during pregnancy. Extracellular matrix-degrading proteinases and their inhibitors are involved in this integration process. Recent genetic evidence indicates that there is redundancy within the implantation proteinase cascade, indicating that additional proteinases may be involved. Recently, we described a novel implantation serine proteinase (ISP1) gene that encodes the embryo-derived enzyme strypsin, which is necessary for blastocyst hatching in vitro and the initiation of invasion. The evidence presented in the present study indicates that a second proteinase secreted from the uterus also participates in lysis of the zona pellucida. A second implantation serine proteinase gene (ISP2) was isolated, which encodes a related secreted tryptase expressed specifically within uterine endometrial glands. In pseudopregnancy, ISP2 gene expression is dependent on progesterone priming and is inhibited by the antiprogestin RU486. On the basis of similarities between ISP2 gene expression and that of a progesterone-regulated luminal proteinase associated with lysis of the zona pellucida, it is possible that the strypsin-related protein, ISP2, may encode a zona lysin proteinase.  相似文献

The design of a vehicle frame is largely dependent on the loads applied on the suspension and heavy parts mounting points. These loads can either be estimated through full analytical multibody dynamic simulations, or from semi-analytical simulations in which tire and road sub-models are not included and external vehicle loads, recorded during field testing, are used as inputs to the wheel hubs. Several semi-analytical methods exist, with various modeling architectures, yet, it is unclear how one method over another improves frame loads prediction accuracy.

This study shows that a semi-analytical method that constrains the vehicle frame center of gravity movement along a recorded trajectory, using a control algorithm, leads to an accuracy within 1% for predicting frame loads, when compared to reference loads from a full analytical model. The control algorithm computes six degrees of freedom forces and moments applied at the vehicle center of gravity to closely follow the recorded vehicle trajectory. It is also shown that modeling the flexibility of the suspension arms and controlling wheel hub angular velocity both contribute in improving frame loads accuracy, while an acquisition frequency of 200 Hz appears to be sufficient to capture load dynamics for several maneuvers. Knowledge of these loads helps engineers perform appropriate dimensioning of vehicle structural components therefore ensuring their reliability under various driving conditions.

It has been observed that the adhesion between vacuum-evaporated aluminum and poly(ethylene isophthalate-co-ethylene sodium sulfoisophthalate) copolymer is approximately five times greater than the adhesion between vacuum-evaporated aluminum and biaxially-oriented poly(ethylene terephthalate) film. To describe the interface between the aluminum and these polymeric substrates, thermoanalytical, spectroscopic and microscopic techniques have been applied. Definite changes in surface elemental composition and chemical functionality occur upon metallization of the polymer films. Aluminized samples contained two new oxygen functionalities; one due to the aluminum oxide and the other due to an organoaluminum species. Thermal degradation, as may occur during vacuum evaporation, would be expected to yield a carboxylic acid endgroup and a vinyl endgroup for each chain scission reaction that occurred. Reaction of aluminum with these carboxylic acid endgroups is thought to be responsible for the organoaluminum oxygen peak that was observed. Based on the XPS data, however, the level of this new functionality was comparable for both types of polyester film. Thus, this new functionality may be involved in promoting aluminum/polyester adhesion, but by itself cannot explain the differences in the level of adhesion that are attained. It appears, based on the transmission electron micrographs, that the aluminum deposit penetrates the copolymer coating to a greater depth than it does the PET. The greater level of penetration could be responsible for the greater adhesion obtained between vacuum-evaporated aluminum and the copolymer film compared with the level of adhesion obtained with the PET film. Based on this work, it appears that the adhesion of the vacuum-evaporated aluminum to both polyesters has a similar chemical component (type and amount) but a different extent of the mechanical component.  相似文献
