The event sequence diagram (ESD) framework can be used to qualitatively represent dynamic scenarios. The solution of ESDs can be performed in an analytical manner. Since the construction of ESDs has some inherent analyst dependence, there is scope for omitting scenarios due to certain simplifying assumptions. This is one of the prime drawbacks of the ESD framework. This paper presents an approach for identifying missing scenarios by combining ESDs with probabilistic dynamics. The approach also helps in reducing the variance of a Monte Carlo simulation procedures.  相似文献

This paper introduces a set of skeleton operators for characterizing topologies evolving in a bit-array represented structural topology optimization problem. It is shown that the design generally converges to a stable skeleton fairly early in the optimization process. It is observed that further optimization is more about finding optimal gross shape for the various branches of the converged skeleton and the bit-array representation is not appropriate. A two-phase approach to topology optimization is proposed in which the first phase, where bit-array is used to represent the topology, ends with the detection of stabilization of skeleton, and the second phase proceeds further with the geometry based representation that directly addresses gross variation in shape of the branches of the converged skeleton. Genetic Algorithm has been used for optimization in both the phases. The efficiency and effectiveness of the use of skeleton operators and geometric variables for identification of convergence in the first phase and optimization in the second phase respectively is demonstrated.  相似文献

The validity of the commonly used flame marker for heat release rate (HRR) visualization, namely the rate of the reaction OH + CH2O ⇔ HCO + H2O is re-examined. This is done both for methane–air and multi-component fuel–air mixtures for lean and stoichiometric conditions. Two different methods are used to identify HRR correlations, and it is found that HRR correlations vary strongly with stoichiometry. For the methane mixture there exist alternative HRR markers, while for the multi-component fuel flame the above correlation is found to be inadequate. Alternative markers for the HRR visualization are thus proposed and their performance under turbulent conditions is evaluated using DNS data.  相似文献

Cerium–silver (Ce–Ag) co-doped ZnO was synthesized by precipitation–decomposition and tested for the degradation of Reactive Red 120 dye under natural sun light irradiation. Three weight percent Ce co-doped Ag–ZnO was found to be most efficient. Hence, this catalyst (3 wt% Ce–Ag–ZnO) has been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). XRD and XPS reveal the presence of metallic Ag and tetravalent Ce. Ag and Ce shift the absorption of ZnO to entire visible region. It was found that the Ce–Ag–ZnO exhibited higher degradation efficiency when compared to Ag-ZnO, Ce–ZnO, prepared ZnO, Commercial ZnO, TiO2, and TiO2-P25 at neutral pH (=7). Quantum yields of all processes were calculated and compared. Higher activity of Ce–Ag–ZnO in natural sunlight may be due to higher visible light absorption of Ce–Ag–ZnO when compared to native ZnO. The influences of operational parameters such as the amount of photocatalyst, dye concentration, initial pH on photo mineralization of RR 120 have been analyzed. The mineralization of RR 120 dye was confirmed by chemical oxygen demand (COD) measurements. A dual mechanism has been proposed for efficient degradation of RR 120 dye by Ce–Ag–ZnO under solar light at neutral pH. This photocatalyst was found to be reusable up to four runs.  相似文献

Cascade simulations in single crystal and nanocrystalline SiC have been conducted in order to determine the role of grain boundaries and grain size on defect production during primary radiation damage. Cascades are performed with 4 and 10 keV silicon as the primary knock-on atom (PKA). Total defect production is found to increase with decreasing grain size, and this effect is shown to be due to increased production in grain boundaries and changing grain boundary volume fraction. In order to consider in-grain defect production, a new mapping methodology is developed to properly normalize in-grain defect production rates for nanocrystalline materials. It is shown that the presence of grain boundaries does not affect the total normalized in-grain defect production significantly (the changes are lower than ~20%) for the PKA energies considered. Defect production in the single grain containing the PKA is also studied and found to increase for smaller grain sizes. In particular, for smaller grain sizes the defect production decreases with increasing distance from the grain boundary while for larger grain sizes the presence of the grain boundaries has negligible effect on defect production. The results suggest that experimentally observed changes in radiation resistance of nanocrystalline materials may be due to long-term damage evolution rather than changes in defect production rates from primary damage.  相似文献

Influence of polyurethane (PU) structure on the nature of PU/clay nanocomposite was studied using varying amounts of trimethylol propane (TMP) as branching agent. The effect of hydroxyl groups in the modifier of organoclays on the structure of PU/clay nanocomposites was studied. Nanocomposites were characterized using wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction measurements (WAXD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results show that formation of completely exfoliated and well dispersed polyurethane/clay nanocomposites via in situ polymerization, is facilitated by the presence of tethering groups on the clay surface and an ability to form branched and crosslinked structures. Incorporation of long alkyl chains in addition to tethering hydroxyl groups in the modifier structure of the clay did not significantly improve the compatibility of linear PU with the clay. Intercalated thermoplastic polyurethane/clay nanocomposites, prepared using poly(caprolactone diol) as soft segment and isophorone diisocyanate and 1,4‐butanediol as hard segments show increase in storage tensile moduli at temperatures before glass transition temperature when functional groups capable of chemically reacting with the growing polymer chains are present in the clay modifier. This is indicative of improved interaction of the polymer with the clay surface when the modifier has larger number of hydroxyl groups. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献

Tea fungus is symbiotic culture of acetic acid bacteria and yeasts, widely used to produce kombucha tea. Due to the rich biomass in tea fungus, it can be utilized as protein supplement in animal feed. The present study aimed to analyze the biochemical characteristics of tea fungus with the effect of fermentation time. Proximate, amino acids, and elemental analysis of tea fungus produced during kombucha fermentation were studied along with total count of microflora. Results suggested that tea fungus is rich in crude protein, crude fibre, and amino acid lysine. The biochemical characteristics of tea fungus studied were increased throughout the fermentation time.  相似文献

Extreme natural hazards, particularly the hydro-meteorological disasters, are emerging as a cause of major concern in the coastal regions of India and a few other developing countries. These have become more frequent in the recent past, and are taking a heavy toll of life and livelihoods. Low level of technology development in the rural areas together with social, economic and gender inequities enhance the vulnerability of the largely illiterate, unskilled, and resource-poor fishing, farming and landless labour communities. Their resilience to bounce back to pre-disaster level of normality is highly limited. For the planet Earth at crossroads, the imminent threat, however, is from a vicious spiral among environmental degradation, poverty and climate change-related natural disasters interacting in a mutually reinforcing manner. These, in turn, retard sustainable development, and also wipe out any small gains made thereof. To counter this unacceptable trend, the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation has developed a biovillage paradigm and rural knowledge centres for ecotechnological and knowledge empowerment of the coastal communities at risk. Frontier science and technologies blended with traditional knowledge and ecological prudence result in ecotechnologies with pro-nature, pro-poor and pro-women orientation. The rural communities are given training and helped to develop capacity to adopt ecotechnologies for market-driven eco-enterprises. The modern information and communication-based rural knowledge centres largely operated by trained semi-literate young women provide time- and locale-specific information on weather, crop and animal husbandry, market trends and prices for local communities, healthcare, transport, education, etc. to the local communities. The ecotechnologies and time- and locale-specific information content development are need-based and chosen in a 'bottom-up' manner. The use of recombinant DNA technology for genetic shielding of agricultural crops for coastal regions against abiotic stress (induced by the water- and weather-related natural disasters), strengthens the foundations of sustainable agriculture undertaken by the resource-poor small farm families.  相似文献
