The coastal water quality of Mumbai is deteriorating by receiving partially treated effluent from wastewater treatment facilities, sewage discharges from ocean outfalls and discharges from point and non‐point sources in the creek and coast. A novel approach of object‐based image analysis has been used in this research study to assess the extent of sewage pollution in the coastal environment of Mumbai. For this, Indian Remote Sensing P6 Linear Imaging Self Scanning IV image was used for multiresolution segmentation and rule‐based image classification as per normalised difference water index and normalised difference turbidity index. Water quality regions as per classification were strongly correlated with observed water quality parameters. Based on classified regions and water quality parameters, extent of sewage pollution in the coast was ranked from high to least polluted. The approach developed in this methodology should be tested in similarly polluted waters to ascertain its adaptability for assessing the spatial extent of sewage pollution. 相似文献

We report the synthesis and characterization of Sb-doped Te-rich nanotubes, and study their memory switching properties under the application of electrical pulses. Te-rich nanotubes display significantly low writing currents due to their small cross-sectional areas, which is desirable for power-efficient memory operation. The nanotube devices show limited resistance ratio and cyclic switching capability owing to the intrinsic properties of Te. The observed memory switching properties of this new class of nanostructured memory elements are discussed in terms of fundamental materials properties and extrinsic geometrical effects. 相似文献

Phase-change memory, which switches reversibly between crystalline and amorphous phases, is promising for next generation data-storage devices. In this work, we present a novel, nonbinary data-storage device using core-shell nanowires to significantly enhance memory capacity by combining two phase-change materials with different electronic and thermal properties to engineer different onsets of amorphous-crystalline transitions. Magnetopriming has emerged as a promising seed-priming method, improving seed vigor, plant performance and productivity under both normal and stressed conditions. Various recent reports have demonstrated that improved photosynthesis can lead to higher biomass accumulation and overall crop yield. The major focus of the present review is magnetopriming-based, improved growth parameters, which ultimately favor increased photosynthetic performance. The plants originating from magnetoprimed seeds showed increased plant height, leaf area, fresh weight, thick midrib and minor veins. Similarly, chlorophyll and carotenoid contents, efficiency of PSII, quantum yield of electron transport, stomatal conductance, and activities of carbonic anhydrase (CA), Rubisco and PEP-carboxylase enzymes are enhanced with magnetopriming of the seeds. In addition, a higher fluorescence yield at the J-I-P phase in polyphasic chlorophyll a fluorescence (OJIP) transient curves was observed in plants originating from magnetoprimed seeds. Here, we have presented an overview of available studies supporting the magnetopriming-based improvement of various parameters determining the photosynthetic performance of crop plants, which consequently increases crop yield. Additionally, we suggest the need for more in-depth molecular analysis in the future to shed light upon hidden regulatory mechanisms involved in magnetopriming-based, improved photosynthetic performance. 相似文献

The age and height wise variations in the fuel properties (basic density, calorific value, proximate and elemental parameters) of three short rotation forestry species i.e., Eucalyptus hybrid, Acacia auriculaeformis and Casuarina equisetifolia have been investigated. The fuel properties parameters were evaluated from the test samples of different age from 2 to 6 year and the samples obtained from three different height of trees i.e., stump height, diameter at breast height and top. A marginal increase in the calorific value with the age of tree (2-6 years) was found in all the species, the variation being significant in E. hybrid and C. equisetifolia. The basic density values were also found significantly different in E. hybrid and C. equisetifolia at lower ages (2-6 years). However, when the results were analyzed along the tree height, the calorific values were found to decrease along the stem length towards the tree-top in A. auriculaeformis and C. equisetifolia. The ash content in general was found to be higher in the top portions of the trees, and the same was found significantly higher in case of A. auriculaeformis. There was no particular trend observed for volatile matter content and the fixed carbon content with age. The fuel properties of lower age trees were compared with that of a mature tree (20 years of age) of same species. In general, the fuel properties of mature trees were found to be better than trees of lower age. 相似文献

This paper presents a review of the reported research works that are related to the solid particle erosion behavior of polymers and polymeric composites. Attention is paid to the effects of test parameters such as erodent type, size of the erodent, impingement angle, impact velocity and stand of distance. on the erosion wear rate of polymer composites. Various predictions and models proposed by different authors to describe and quantify the erosion rate are mentioned and their suitability is checked. Recent findings on the erosion response of multi-component hybrid composites are also presented. Lastly the implementation of design of experiments and statistical techniques in making the parametric appraisal of the erosion process of composites is discussed. 相似文献

The water quality of seafronts and beaches of Mumbai is under pressure and deteriorating due to discharge of partially treated sewage and wastewater through point and nonpoint sources. The objective of the study was to assess the water quality and to correlate physico-chemical and bacteriological parameters for establishing relationship, association and dependence on each other. The water quality parameters were selected as per SW II standards specified by Central Pollution Control Board, India and nutrient parameters as strong indicators of sewage pollution. Box and whisker plots were generated for evaluating spatio temporal variation of water quality which suggest influence of organic pollution mostly at Mahim and Dadar in the form of outliers and extremes. Pearson's correlations were estimated between parameters and found significant correlation with each other indicating influence of sewage on water quality. The water quality of beaches and seafronts were found unsafe for recreational purposes. The study suggested that designated water quality can be achieved by restricting nonpoint source through improvement in wastewater collection systems, appropriate level of treatment and proper disposal. 相似文献
