An experimental investigation of a novel corner reflector antenna with improved performance is reported. The corner reflector antenna has been structurally modified by attaching two more reflector elements. The parameters such as the primary corner angle, position, width and angle of the secondary elements have significant effects on the H-plane radiation characteristics of the antenna. Certain symmetric configurations of this triple corner reflector (TCR) antenna provide sharp beams with a gain of the order of 3 dB over that of the conventional corner reflector (CR) antenna  相似文献

The flow behavior of liquid natural rubber (LNR) with reference to the effect of molecular weight, shear rate, and temperature has been studied. LNR samples were prepared by thermal depolymerization of rubber (NR) through the combined effect of mechanical, chemical, and thermal energies. High molecular weight samples, especially at lower temperatures, showed pseudoplastic behavior, whereas the low molecular weight samples were Newtonian at all temperatures. The viscosity of LNR considerably decreases with increase in temperature. The activation energy of flow was also calculated. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Visible-infrared sum-frequency spectroscopy is ideally suited to the study of surfaces and interfaces. This paper introduces new sum-frequency spectroscopy instrumentation that we have developed with two novel features: (1) stable and robust infrared generation in the 900-3100 cm(-1) (11-3.2 microm) region using an amplified Ti : sapphire oscillator with a home-built OPG/OPA, and (2) continuous tuning over either 900-2700 cm(-1) (11-3.7 microm) or 1800-3100 cm(-1) (5.5-3.2 microm) in a single experiment. All practical details of baseline correction issues due to the picosecond pulses (including variation in infrared (IR) energy, spatial and temporal overlap, Fresnel coefficients) are addressed while demonstrating signal throughout this region from an amorphous gold surface. A sum-frequency spectrum from an oriented polymer is shown as a complete example of the data treatment, which reveals the vibrational modes accessible in this wavelength region.  相似文献

Human disease elicits a complex array of biological processes that results in long‐term protective immunological memory to infectious agents. Chronic kidney disease is known to impair induction of sustained immunological memory to hepatitis B vaccine (HBVax) antigens. We asked the question: Does end‐stage renal disease promote changes in subtypes of regulatory T (Treg) cells that correlate with diminished amnestic response to HBVax antigen compared to healthy controls? The study design and setting was a prospective observational cohort at a veterans affairs medical center. End‐stage renal disease patients on hemodialysis (HD) were compared with individuals with self‐reported normal kidney function. All subjects received HBVax. Peripheral blood was sampled for assessment for Treg cells pre and post vaccination. CD4+ FOXP3 Treg numbers were similar between HD and healthy subjects during a 14‐day time period post vaccination. HD subjcts had lower anti‐HBSag antibody than CON (control) subjects (330 ± 108.7 vs. 663.1 ± 129.7 IU/mL; P = 0.063). Hemodialysis subjects with resting Tregs higher than the median value in our cohort demonstrated a significantly lower change in HBsAB at 30 days post booster vaccination (P = 0.030). No such relationship was found for the activated Treg subset among HD subjects, or either subset among CON subsets. In our limited comparison study of 11 HD and 8 CON subjects, Treg subsets did not differ between the two groups; but differences in the suppressive Treg numbers in the HD group could explain the altered antibody response to HBVax and is worthy of further study.  相似文献

A physical model of split-window and multi-angle algorithms for the retrieval of sea surface temperature has been obtained. It is shown that optical thickness in the thermal infrared window region is approximately represented by a separable function of wavelength and atmospheric variables which greatly simplify the radiative transfer model. In modelling the temperature retrieval algorithms we exploit the correlation that exists between the sea surface temperature and the average temperature of the atmosphere. It is shown that, to the extent this correlation is maintained, there is a simple relationship between surface temperature and the brightness temperatures measured in two split-window or multi-angle channels. The different atmospheric conditions which cause spread in this relationship are briefly discussed. It is shown that measurements at three optical thicknesses instead of two as in the case of the split-window method improve the SST retrieval accuracy since it can take care of non-equilibrium conditions such as inversions, surface instabilities, etc., prevailing in the atmosphere.  相似文献

About 100 commercially important timber species are being extracted from the natural forests and plantations in Kerala State (India), and stored in depots. The stored timber is often attacked by boring Coleoptera. In the present study, 68 species of borers were recorded as pests of 50 species of stored timber. Fourteen new host records are included. The timbers most susceptible to borer infestation were Anacardium occidentale, Bombax ceiba, Hevea brasiliensis, Mangifera indica, and Polyalthia fragrans susceptible to infestation by cerambycid, platypodid, scolytid, or bostrychid borers; and Artocarpus heterophyllus, Canarium strictum, Erythrina indica, Lophopetalum wightianum, Tetrameles nudiflora, and Vateria indica susceptible to infestation by scolytid, platypodid, or bostrychid borers. The nature and extent of damage by these borers warrants adoption of effective prophylactic treatments to timber stored in depots and storage yards.  相似文献

The effects of three reaction temperatues, 180, 200 and 220°C, on the partial wet oxidation of peat were investigated. A stirred reactor with a five litre working volume and continuous feed of peat slurry and air was used for the experiments. The effluent was separated into liquid and solid fractions and analyzed to quantify the effects of temperature. The carbon content and heating value of the recovered solids increased with temperature but yields were lower. The composition of the wastewater was only slightly dependent on the reaction temperature, and in all cases contained high concentrations of organics.  相似文献

Absolute quantification of cerebral blood flow, cerebral blood volume and mean transit time is desirable in the determination of tissue viability thresholds and tissue at risk in acute ischaemic stroke, as well as in cases where a global reduction in cerebral blood flow is expected, for example, in patients with dementia or depressive disorders. Absolute values are also useful when comparing sequential examinations of tissue perfusion parameters, for example, in the monitoring and follow-up of various kinds of therapy. Regardless of the method employed, a number of assumptions and approximations must be made to obtain absolute measures of perfusion. Furthermore, the different stages of data acquisition and processing are associated with various degrees of uncertainty. In this review, the problems of particular relevance to absolute quantification of cerebral perfusion parameters using dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging are discussed, and possible solutions are outlined.  相似文献

Wildfire burnt forest biomass can be salvaged as feedstock for bioenergy power generating stations. Despite availability of such forest biomass in northwestern Ontario, its procurement has generally been considered uneconomic and no studies have looked into the cost of harvesting, processing, and transporting the burnt material for bioenergy production. In order to meet the demand of biomass for proposed and existing power generating stations using renewable fuels, a standard costing model is used to determine the feasibility of procuring biomass from burnt areas using a full-tree to roadside, roadside grinder to mill system. The case-study was conducted at the Hogarth Plantations near Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. The total cost incurred for processing and delivery of biomass from wildfire burnt area with a hauling distance of 7 km and total trip cycle time of 2.55 h was found to be $29.65 gt?1, with net energy content of 11.4 GJ gt?1. The total procurement cost depends on the hauling distance and a linear relationship between the two was established. The energy analysis found a net energy output to input ratio of 35:1 for the operation.  相似文献
