The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of starch source and amylose content on the expansion ratio, density, and texture of expanded extrudates, as well as to investigate the structural and molecular changes that occur in starch granules as a function of extrusion. The starches employed were rice starches (8%, 20%, and 32% amylose), carioca bean starch (35% amylose), and Hylon V® corn starch (55% amylose). The extrudates from rice starches containing 20% and 32% amylose exhibited the highest expansion ratio, while, extrudates from Hylon V® corn starch containing 55% amylose exhibited the lowest expansion ratio. The hardness values of the extrudates with 55% amylose were twice those of the extrudates with 20%, 32%, and 35% amylose. An additional finding was that although the amylopectin promoted the expansion of the gelatinized starch matrix, it failed to strengthen and sustain the walls of the extrudate bubbles during expansion. 相似文献

We studied the influence of initial pH on hydrogen (H2) production using permeate from scotta (a partially deproteinized cheese whey from ricotta production) as substrate (51 g L?1 lactose). Dark fermentation was carried out at 35 °C in laboratory batch reactors, in an unbuffered system. Hydrogen production and metabolite (volatile fatty acids, ethanol, and lactic acid) evolution during a 96-h period were monitored in reactors with initial pH varying in the range 4–10. In all reactors, H2 production started only when pH fell below 6. However, it was much higher (+31%) in the reactors with initial alkaline pH. We conclude that H2 production occurs only at acidic pH values, but initial alkaline pH values increase the overall H2 production in dark fermentation of lactose-rich substrates. 相似文献

The aim of this work was to report on a total of 23 fungicides and insecticides residues in 75 green and leafy vegetables (Swiss chards, Spinaches and Lettuces) collected from Ourense (NW Spain) by Spring 2007. The pesticides in the study samples were extracted with acetonitrile; the extracts were then cleaned-up by solid-phase extraction and concentrated before determination by PTV (Programmable Temperature Vaporization Injector) – GC-ITMS. Use of analyte protectants mixtures provided the best results in terms of effective compensation for matrix-induced enhancement effect. Pesticide residues were determined above the maxima residue limits (MRL) in 15 of the 75 analyzed samples, with a total of 18 violations of the MRL (three of the samples did not fulfil with two different pesticide MRL). The highest concentrations of fungicides were found in lettuce (procymidone, 12 mg/kg) and the highest concentrations of insecticides were found in Swiss chard (cypermethrin, 6 mg/kg). More positives for fungicides were detected and at larger concentrations than insecticides, especially for lettuces. Accumulation of pesticides in lettuces is higher than for the other leafy vegetables. The findings of this study pointed to the following recommendation: the need for a monitoring program for residues of iprodione and procymidone, together with cypermethrin, in food crops at the national level. 相似文献

Goat feeding preferences for straw pellets flavored with ryegrass (Lolium perenne, cv. Belida) or white clover (Trifolium repens, cv. Huia) aromatic extracts, obtained by means of a cold aromatic extraction method, were assessed with cafeteria trials. Prior to the trials, odor differences between the two plant species, the two aromatic extracts, and the straw pellets sprayed with the two aromatic extracts were verified using sensory analysis performed by 30 human panelists. Since odor differences observed among fresh samples were still detectable in aromatic extracts and moistened pellets, the extraction method was considered effective in reproducing plant odors. Straw pellets sprayed with either distilled water (W) or ryegrass (R) or clover (C) aromatic extracts were used to assess flavor preferences of 12 female Rossa Mediterranea goats. Sprayed pellet preference was evaluated in two sessions conducted in two consecutive weeks. Each session consisted of three two-choice presentations performed on three consecutive days. In both sessions, food intake, proportion of food intake, time spent feeding, and proportion of time spent feeding were significantly affected by pellet type (0.05 > P > 0.001). In particular, straw pellets sprayed with ryegrass extract were highly selected compared to those sprayed with clover (0.01 > P > 0.001) or water (0.01 > P > 0.001). In addition, in the second session, the clover extract was preferred to distilled water (0.05 > P > 0.01). The results of this study gave two main indications: first, goat selectivity for ryegrass against clover was consistent even when straw pellets sprayed with odors of these plants were offered, and secondly, the addition of aromatic extracts to straw pellets increased the preference for pellets. 相似文献

The antioxidant effects of natural estrogens (estrone E1; 17β-estradiol), synthetic estrogens (17α-ethynylestradiol, EE2; mestranol, MES; diethylstilbestrol, DES) and catechle-strogens (2-hydroxyestradiol; 4-hydroxyestradiol 4-OHE2) on lipid peroxidation induced by different means in rat liver microsomes were investigated. The extent of lipid peroxidation
was determined by measuring thiobarbituric acid reactive substances. Prooxidants included Fe3+/ADP/reduced NADPH, Fe2+/ascorbate,tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BOOH) and 2,2′-azobis (2-amidinopropane) (AAPH). Estrogens and catecholestrogens decreased lipid peroxidation in all four systems tested. In the
iron/ascorbate model it was shown that (i)-OHE2 and DES had analogous patterns of inhibition, irrespective of the presence of NADPH or the functional integrity of the microsómes,
and (ii) the antioxidant activities of E1, EE2 and MES were dependent on the assay conditions with the activity being markedley higher when estrogen metabolism was favored.
When peroxidation was initiated by the peroxyl radical generator AAPH, the inhibitory effects observed were least pronounced.
Our data also showed that, in each of the systems, all inhibitors displayed the same order of inhibitory potency with DES
and catecholestrogens being the most potent antioxidants under all experimental conditions used. The present results confirm
earlier findings and point toward a link between estrogen metabolism and estrogen antioxidant activity. The data also indicate
that estrogens and catecholestrogens interact with the peroxidative process at different levels with their interactions with

A specially designed electro-cross-flow nanofiltration (NF) membrane system was used for this investigation. To enhance the rejection of arsenic ionic species like H2AsO4−, a NF membrane having a negative surface charge was fabricated via the interfacial polymerization process. The membrane was characterized by SEM, AFM, surface charge density, molecular weight cut-off (MWCO), total and skin thickness and pure water flux. The parameters that affected the rejections of As(III) and As(V) were studied; they included the initial arsenic concentration, the applied potential, pH of the feed, the cross-flow filtration pressure and the presence of different salts in the feed. Among those parameters, the pH of the feed greatly affected As(V) rejection; As(V) ([As(V)]o = 1000 ppb) rejection was increased from 72.3 to 98.5% when pH of the feed was changed from 3.0 to 10.0. This might be due to the fact that higher pH enhanced the formation of negative divalent anion like HAsO42− which should be rejected more effectively by the negative surface charge of the NF membrane. Beside the effect of the negative surface charge of the membrane, applied potential increased the As(V) rejection by 48.2% when the applied potential was increased from 0 to 2.0 V for a feed containing 1000 ppb initially. For the same change of applied potential rejection of As(III) was increased from 52.3 to 70.4%; this might be the result of the formation of anionic species like H2AsO3− from the neutral molecule of H3AsO3 by the applied potential. 相似文献

The Almendares River watershed covers a large portion of Havana, Cuba and is centrally important to both recreational and other activities in the region. In order to assess current water quality conditions prior to planned remediation efforts, the spatial distribution of six heavy metals and other compounds were determined in river sediments at fifteen sampling stations in the watershed. Metal concentrations in sediments ranged from 86.1 to 708.8 for Zn, 39.3 to 189.0 for Pb, 71.6 to 420.8 for Cu, 84.4 to 209.7 Cr, 1.5 to 23.4 for Co, and 1.0 to 4.3 for Cd microg/g dry weight sediment. Calculated enrichment factors (EF; measured metal versus background mineral conditions) were almost always greater than 1.0, suggesting significant anthropogenic impact on metal levels in the river. The highest EF values were seen immediately below Cotorro (EF>10 for Pb, Cu, and Cd), a suburban town that has an active secondary smelter, and below the largest municipal landfill in Havana (EF>10 for Pb, Cu, Cd, and Zn). Further, three sampling stations had multiple metals at concentrations higher than probable effects concentrations (PEC), implying possible local ecotoxicological impacts. Finally, sequential extractions of the sediments indicated that heavy metals were largely associated with the organic fraction, and it was estimated that up to 62% of metals in the sediments would be susceptible to release back into the water column if hydraulic or other changes occurred in the river. The hydrogeochemical study of the cold springs present in the Mt. Amiata geothermal area, where the Bagnore and Piancastagnaio geothermal fields are situated, has defined the different shallow groundwater systems.The cold groundwater temperature of the volcanic phreatic aquifer is largely correlated with the geothermal heat flow. Through the analysis of the temperature of cold groundwaters, a possible method for geothermal prospection has been developed, supported by the results obtained in the studied area. Through the enthalpic balance of the aquifer and in agreement with available data, a geothermal flow of about 200 mW m-2 has been calculated. 相似文献

Flow‐dependent fish specialists require specific conditions for reproduction, so the success and reproductive intensity of these animals are determined by the flood regime. Thus, this study investigated the spatial and temporal reproductive patterns of fish, especially migratory Prochilodus species (flow‐dependent specialists) in an unusual period of low flow in the Pará River sub‐basin, one of the main tributaries of the upper São Francisco River. For this, ichthyoplankton collections were carried out between November 2013 and February 2014. Data were analysed considering the spatial and temporal variations in density of eggs and larvae for the upper, middle, and lower portions of the Pará River sub‐basin, and correlating this to some environmental variables. The results showed that the small headwater stretch of the Pará River is one relevant spawning area for migratory fish species. However, this area is isolated by the Cajuru reservoir, which makes it uncertain the recruitment of these embryos, due to interruption of natural drift between spawning/nursery areas caused for reservoirs. Larvae of newly hatched migratory species found in tributaries of the lower Pará River sub‐basin also indicate these species use these tributaries as spawning grounds and migratory routes. The period in which the research was conducted represented the most atypical low flow, one in the last 75 years, resulting in the low variability in the environmental parameters. Although few parameters increased briefly in this low flow period influenced by greater rainfall in December, this precipitation was possibly responsible for the final gonadal maturation and spawning of migratory species. 相似文献
